    Love to hear the history behind perfumes. Makes me appreciate and treasure the scent all the more. I swim in my pool of aldehydes via Youth Dew...adoring vintage scents...nothing old lady about them! Wonderful review!

    Great review! One of the best perfumes! I used it in my younger years because I loved it so much. I have about 40 bottles diverse perfumes; it’s my hobby. Yesterday I thought to buy this again, but I forgot the name. But the name popped up quickly. I ordered 6 x 30 ml for a great offer. The price was even less from UK than buying 1 bottle of 50 ml in my country. This perfume has the longest longevity of all my perfumes. And do I have wellknown perfumes! I really liked your review. Thanks!

    It is so cool how your camera focuses on the bottle as well as your face. Looks like a giant bottle! You are getting so confident and good at this.... Yes! Love to sit back and listen to a story! I really appreciate your taking the time to tell us the history behind fragrances. Thank you!

      Thank YOU Natty! I am kind of getting the hang of this I guess. For me it is kind of hard. Writing is much easier. But hey it is just fun in the end. Oh yeah wouldn't it be fun to have a bottle that big of perfume ...I don't know, say maybe Infusion d'Iris!?

    Wonderful review and so right about that generation of women. We should be proud of them and respect the perfumes they wore. L'Aimant was one of my mother's favourites and now I feel moved to find it and try it again for myself. Thank you.

      Thank YOU Bejoux Noir...what a lovely name, black jewel. Hope you find L'Aimant to your liking. My hat is doffed to your Mother's good taste! Hi Lanier..L'aimant was part of the big 4 of Coty's lineup at that time...L'Aimant,Woodhue,Tigress and Aphrodesia. It was my moms favorite fragrance and it was so nice to hear it spoken of here..........I may even have to pick up a small bottle for old times "scent memory"..esp to wear privately for a visit w/my mom. Thank you for this reiview........Bob

      I think you meant L'Aimant, L'Origan, Emeraude, and Paris...the Coty Big 4. Woodhue, Tigress and Aphrodesia (as well as Flambeau) are part of Fabergé's "big 4 line-up". 🙂

    Hi Lanier! I recently received my 1st ever bottle of l'Aimant, 50 ml, $24.47, art deco-style bottle like yours. Smells sooo like Chanel no 5 on my skin, just softer, warmer, flirtier, less bitter/formal. Though less refined/smooth, L'Aimant lasts much longer than my expensive Chanel no 5 EDT & has better projection. But I do find L'Aimant is a tad too sharpish to my nose, probably due to the aldehydes so I mitigate that effect by layering with Jovan White Musk or Rose Noire by Giorgio Valenti or (vintage) Intimately by David Beckham. The result is plush, rounded, cozy, sensual, just beautiful.
    Next on my radar is Chantilly by Dana, evocative (for some) of Shalimar. I'm on the hunt for the perfect-for-me powdery, iris-(non)edible vanilla in the classical style. Perhaps Shalimar EDT will fill that void. Vintage True Love is for me the best in this category, a Grojsman masterpiece, but so hard to find now & the current TL is hardly half of what it was when I wore it in the 90s but works well for layering purposes.

    L'amaint became my second skin as of lately.I really can't stop wearing it.Little less orange Tic Tacs than No5,but still similar.SO effortless and I feel effortless wearing it.Running errands-of course, party-sure, just going to bed- YES! L'aimant became my addiction and it seems very very natural to me/ so comfortable , that's why I called it my second skin at the beginning.Should I be worried?Hahahaha;) Great review!I watched it several times. Greetings from accross the pond. XO

      Greta Garbo may have worn it for all we know! Yes the bottle looks like a gallon up close. I was just being "arty" in my frame composition and I wanted to hide the No.5 behind it and have it pop out...surprise ! Thanks Fragrance Bros.

    PS: Do you have an idea where to find a fragrance simillar to "Jardin de Bagatelle " from Guerlain ? is is not available any more and I really loved it.

      @laniersmith1798  8 лет назад

      +Petra von Bassewitz You are so welcome. Oh gee I am sorry but I do not know of one that is close to Jardin de Bagatelle.This is not a recommendation, just some information, I looked on Fragrantica and people there seam to think that Scandal by Roja Dove and Number One Nicolai Parfumeur Createur for women are similar. But I would be careful, that Roja Dove is very expensive.

    Loved this Lanier! Looking dapper too :D
    So is this a current formulation or vintage only? Think I missed something :| Whatever it is - I'll be off to grab a bottle I think, sounds right up my street!

    • @laniersmith1798
      @laniersmith1798  11 лет назад +5

      Oh I should have mentioned that the L'Aimant I have is a current bottle. I wish I could lay my hands on a 1927 vintage. Can you imagine if it was in good condition what that would be like? Coty is hit or miss...mostly miss from what I have sampled. Emeraude was hideous. I am investigating some of the older ones still in production just out of curiosity. L'Origan 1905, La Rose Jacqueminot 1906, Muguet de Bois 1941,and Jungle Gardenia 1995 The last one because a very big society lady here in San Francisco and her wacky story. She is Denise Hale, who is immensely wealthy and was once married to Vincent Minnelli and now practically runs San Francisco's upper crust, used to get her bottle of $15 Jungle Gardenia at the Walgreens drug store on Powell street. Her husband Prentis Cobb Hale was a department store tycoon so she could have had any perfume for nothing but she just went gaga over the J.G. from the drugstore and plopped down her fifteen bucks every few weeks. I just love the eccentricity of that and it is so indicative of our city's wacky "Tales of The City" way of life.

    I'm so desperate to find out what has happened to the original Coty Wild Musk. I wore it religiously during my teen years and so, always having been drawn to earthier and vanilla-sandalwood-ish scents, went back to it about 2 years ago for it's musky, alluring, sensual nature. All was good until I ordered a bottle off of Amazon and ugh...something had terribly changed. So powdery and not the same at all...very obviously different. So, I went back to Wal-Mart (NOT a fan, but where else could I find a bottle?!) and purchased another bottle and it was back the good 'ol scent again. Yay! Naturally, I assumed that the Amazon purchase had perhaps been an imposter. And as I ran out of each bottle from Wal-Mart, I continued to re-visit the store to repurchase another. However, the bottle I bought last night is just like the Amazon purchase...it produces a feeling in me of wanting to gag and is so powdery it's awful! What on earth has happened? I cannot find the original oil anywhere...and now the 'new' Wild Musk is hideous. I am so, so very sad. Everyone tells me how great I smell but not now, I suppose. Fans of the original Coty Wild Musk must surely understand my dilemma, as I have read several reviews on Amazon that are the same as mine! Can you help...or at least explain what has happened? I've been searching the web for answers for a few hours and cannot find anything. I can't even find a legit Coty website or place to ask. Thank you so much in advance for your time and your reviews. I love that I discovered you because of this! Maybe that is the one good thing to come out of it! :)

      +Penny Barney Hi again Lanier,
      I apologize as I did find the Coty website and sent them an inquiry message. I would still love to hear what you have to say, however! Thanks!

    • @laniersmith1798
      @laniersmith1798  9 лет назад

      +Penny Barney reformulation has happened most likely and some notes in the fragrance may be banned as allergens. You can always try your luck on Ebay and search for Vintage Coty Wild Musk. but that can be a gamble. It just may be that you have to say goodbye to your long lost love and find a new passion. With over 31000 fragrances out there and hundreds of new ones each year I know that there is a new love waiting for you out there. Good luck and keep me posted.

    • @pennybarney1491
      @pennybarney1491 9 лет назад +1

      +Lanier Smith Thank you so much for your response. I agree it may be time to try something new but I did write Coty and they responded, wanting me to send the bottle to them, as they claim not to know why it would smell different...so I guess that may be a good sign. Also, I found a company online called "Scentmatchers" that will recreate scents that supposedly are (close to) identical matches. I am ordering a bottle from them just to smell if it's true! Otherwise, yes, there are so many scents out there and I actually enjoy the combination of many essential oils I use, as well, so I am fine...just love that musky, awesome scent of the 70's. What can I say? It was the decade into which I born.

    Absolutely fabulous review. I'll be purchasing a bottle of L'Aimant by Coty instead of my tried and true, Chanel No. 5 this time around. Also I have another cousin to these babies. Lovely Lanvin Arpege. How do you think she compares to these two babies?

      My best suggestion would be to go to Fragantica and look for something that fits that criteria. Clean and Soapy is not my thing so I can't think of anything like that. What a disappointing answer... sorry Karmah.
