    Regarding 1:17 & 2:27 replacing the bolt on a firearm, bolts are supposed to be manufactured to specifications. However when installing a new bolt for the chamber of an existing or new barrel, then the head space needs to be verified with the Go and the No-Go gauges. Otherwise firing a round in a chamber with excessive head space can result in a dangerous internal pressure catastrophe. On the other hand, insufficient head space can cause failure of a round to go into battery for the chamber of that barrel. Watch Steve Ostrem's head space videos @ ruclips.net/video/pcVh-XBOLKg/видео.html & ruclips.net/video/fj8Ef-BxkVU/видео.html

    I agree with all of whats said. I will add that I've seen the face of the buffer chewed up or dinged up by the buffer detention, but that was cured by removing the barrel, milling the face of the receiver where the barrel extension meets the upper with an inexpensive face mill to move the the barrel rearward, inturn moving the bcg rearward enough so that carrier contacts the face of the buffer just enough to stop the slap, which inturn reduced noise and brought the groups to a tighter tolerance on paper. By doing this your taking pressure and contact of the buffer face and buffer detent out of play, accuriseing the action and also getting far better alignment of barrel, barrel extension and bolt and carrier inside of the upper.
    End mill sold and purchased from Brownells. Thankyou for tools.

    It doesn't break often, but after a lot of use the buffer retainer pin can have the small post on top break off. Of course it will drop into your lower receiver and can make your trigger inoperable as well as complicate your attempts to separate your upper from the lower when the buffer spring leaps forward. I have replaced mine with the enhanced retainer from LWRCI.
    It's not expensive and is far more durable than a stock retainer pin.

    Purchase another complete bolt, lube it up, put in small plastic bag, place in the grip. Bam Bo. If your in the field your not going to be able to change out all the little parts. I have several small parts they recommend in my shop. The main reason for this? As you know is so I can replace the parts I lose.

    I didn’t hear replacing the “Buffer Detent”. I’ve seen Buffer Detents sheer off and end up in the FCG and render the gun useless👍🏻

    • @CalebSavant
      @CalebSavant 4 года назад

      That is related to a different issue, the detent should never contact the buffer when the firearm is assembled. That only keeps the buffer in place when the upper and lower are seperated.

    • @lip_ripper_addict8199
      @lip_ripper_addict8199 4 года назад +1

      Caleb Savant yes it is related to a different issue but if it fails and has failed before, why not have a spare on hand? I guess someone could have a spare lower if the detent hole is not drilled right or an offset buffer detent spare

  • @googlesbitch
    @googlesbitch 4 года назад +222

    The only parts that is most likely to wear, break, or loose over time is the buffer spring, buffer bushing, gas rings, firing pin retaining pin, bolt head, extractor spring and o ring (for carbine gas length).
    Magpul pistol grip was designed to house small spare parts and they designed a deeper hole in grip to allow a bolt head to fit inside and enough room for a small reclosable bag to secure small parts.

    The tip of the buffer detent pin likes to break off & that little piece that breaks off likes to foul up your fire control group. When I was shooting highpower, I saw that at least once a year & that little piece can lock up your trigger & make opening the rifle a real pain because the buffer extends into the upper.

      Only if you're not a reloader. Most reloaders keep a stock of primers, brass, bullets, and powder, so they have no problem with ammunition supply. Personally, I've been reloading since the 70's, and I feel sorry for those who haven't prepared LONG in advance. My motivation for reloading was match shooting, not about being prepared, but it did the trick for me, nonetheless.

    I had an extractor break in half after less than 500 rounds (i’m sure it was defective). The only other part I’ve seen break is cam pins and occasionally bolt lugs. I’ve also seen lots of AARs assembled improperly detent springs to the wrong place detects in the wrong place, lots and lots of hammer springs installed backwards.
