I remember watching this movie Billy Jack in a Chicago downtown movie theater around 1971. I was in my early 20s thinking wow!! What a beautiful song with pictures of many horses running around a beautiful western country landscape.

It brought back many tears shed in my youth. I really didn’t know what the song was about. I just heard the feelings in the music. I remember Billy Jack and prayed that I could meet him. Now after 50 years and a stent in Iraq in 2003, I cry because I know what it’s really about. I cannot bring myself to take another’s life unless I’m defending my loved ones and myself. Thank you for posting this. It brings back some wonderful memories. It is also more relevant now than at any time in our history. As I look at the news, I feel that we are in real danger of losing our humanity. Maybe this song should be simul-cast by every media outlet and social media platform across the globe so that people have no choice but to listen to this song and the amazing message that it contains. It might not help our current situation, but it sure can't hurt.

For me, it is a fond reminder that war is never the solution to any conflict. I love this version by Coven. The Original Caste did the original version in Canada, but this is the one I grew up with. It has always held a lot of meaning for me.
I wanted to teach this "One Tin Soldier" to middle school students but the vice principal worried that some, especially their ignorant parents, would take the sarcastic lyrics literally. I transferred to teach at a university.

Thank you for posting this. It brings back some wonderful memories. It is also more relevant now than at any time in our history. As I look at the news, I feel that we are in real danger of losing our humanity. Maybe this song should be simul-cast by every media outlet and social media platform across the globe so that people have no choice but to listen to this song and the amazing message that it contains. It might not help our current situation, but it sure can't hurt.

I wanted to teach this "One Tin Soldier" to middle school students but the vice principal worried that some, especially their ignorant parents, would take the sarcastic lyrics literally. I transferred to teach at a university.
I had a progressive choir director (in middle school on the Gulf coast of Texas in the early '70s!). We sing it for our Spring Concert.
