The best description for the Quar I've seen is "grimsical," having personalities as a balance of halflings and goblins, and it makes sense when you see the cute artwork paired with the horrors of warfare.
Jay! Do the "Tank with the Tree, with Nooses" because that is awesome BUT with hams and sausages and bundles of herbs tied on there drying out because troops always end up provisioning themselves a bit as they go 😃!
I have been seeing these kits at my local shop for months now and just marveling at the sheer "what even is this" factor of the models. Goofy little dudes.
Lego used to have their own "Lego Space" line, which included a lot of great and original stuff. They started drifting off when they tried to piggy-back on the success of SW etc. by introducing all sort of factions and aliens vs. just leaving that down to children's imagination (we managed perfectly fine). At some point they decided to ditch all that and purchase franchise licenses outright. Honestly miss the Lego of old, which was much less full-on commercial and much more of an amazing adventure.
After Lego acquired the Star wars brand, there still was independent Lego space, but you could really tell it was petering out by the 2010s. Last year there was a big Lego space push and lots of new Lego Space Theme sets came out But one of the big things is Lego has stopped doing massive lore dumps for their theme and just kind of release the sets as is and let kids imaginations do the heavy lifting
@@klaykid117 all that's Lego can today is licencse things and not even good when compared to alternative Bricks that are better quality, don't have just stickers, are way cheaper and also look like the thing it suppose to represents when they have a Licence or are a Train or Building And while there are many Copys of Lego sets, they are surprisingly still better
I've bemoaned this a lot as an adult. I don't intrinsically have an issue with licensed tie ins, I just miss the old randomness of their own non-licensed IP. I say this as someone who grew up with "space", then M-Tron, Blacktron and finally Ice planet. I had a lot of fun with the mashups I made of those kits. I really loved the lego movie kits for being reminiscent of that, but that was also a decade ago.
their UFO collection back in the day was dope. Remember those silver, red and black ones with the neon green clear parts? They came up with so many new parts for that serie in particular and the COLORS and minifig armors.
Are we gonna sleep on lines like Life on Mars, Mars Mission, Space Police and the one involving the alien invaders on earth with the bug inspired aliens?
A new plastic set is getting released in the next month too! Fidwog, which are like the Quar version of dwarves (they're even shorter than a normal quar), wearing red trench coats and with tiny little tanks in their infantry squads. Plus there's conversion sets to make two sub-factions and a digital/print on demand factions. Also, this month is going to be a full, unique sub-faction for the Coftyrans and next month is going to be a full sub-faction for the crusaders. I guess there's going to be a bunch of new plastic sets next year too (at least two more factions, vehicles, and specialist bits).
@@AfrinDripy Fidwog is going to be a plastic kit, with likely tribe support items. Same with Easky and the Partisans. The rest will all be tribe releases or direct to store print on demand like the Arnyarans, Gwynt, and Toulmore releases.
Quar rocks. I love the minis, I love the game rules, and I love the plastic-compatible STL expansion bits you can use to build even more factions. Also, the Tractors are so stylish and cool!
Due to NOTHING BUT YOUR ENTHUSIASM, I picked up Clash and some extra models and I'm looking forward to painting up little anteater people! Looks absolutely weird and cute and such a breath of fresh air from Grimdark EVERYTHING. Thanks for everything you do to share what you enjoy in this little hobby of ours!!
You should try SLUDGE if you want a historical, that's not historical. The version in BLASTER is pretty good, I think it went off the rails a bit recently, but the early stuff is great, and you'll end up with a multi-base 28mm army at the end that you could use for Pike & Shotte, or Black Powder games.
I picked up a starter set when they released, and gave a starter set to a friend that I knew would appreciate Quar, for his birthday. Have built and primed one faction so far. Looking forward to playing. Thanks for sharing.
I have been in a bit of warhammer burnout this is perfect and I can convince some of my family to play this during Christmas. Love videos like this that show me games I would otherwise never find out about. Thank you Jay!
I just discovered Quar myself. It's great to see such enthusiasim for a non GW game. BTW alot of the minis can be found on My Mini Factory as well. The designer modeler also has a lot of cool "fantasy" models as well. He's really talented!!
I see Quars, I click the Like. They're Beakie helms but people! (anyone interested in a lil'guy, you can find kitbash parts, tonks and more on their MMF)
In T28 there is a faction/tribe/thing of troops that are people made by the world spanning root. I had been toying with the idea of 'carrot men' made of Quar models and here you are with the paint scheme from my imagination! Then there's a sub faction based around a giant bombard cannon. What if the cannon was made out of a carrot too?!
In a Quar´s War I´m interested in for quite some time. Your enthusiasm is really really contagious. I think I have to start another Wargame, when I find the place to store it. Nice greets from Germany
I too have been following quar this year... every day i get closer to trying it. If theres a game out there thats not 40k or star wars i think quar deserves more coverage. Its so unique its awesome
You have to check out myminifactory of the author of the game. Theres few more factions availible in STLs (some are just different heads and backpacks) and loads more of fun bits and models. You also have PDFs with rules for more models, for tanks (called tractors) and even more PDFs with even more expansive lore. Amount of lore availible for Quar is truly absurd for a game about anteaters shooting shit out of eachother
There are large scale rules with a new version being developed. That is where tanks are used. Also the HQ units send orders via squirrels and yes war games Atlantic has the squirrel handlers.
For the tank, put a small garden fence on top or the back of it, like the tank is a tiny house they live in with a chimney, a flower garden etc. Seems to fit perfectly.
Maybe the mushrooms ain't growing out of them but it's just camo, but living camo. They carefully take earth and dirt and leave it out for some grass and mushrooms to start growing. When they take their gear off it's a long and careful process because they don't want to destroy their camo.
Hispters comment, "I've been into Quar since before they were cool" (jk) But seriously, it has been so awesome to see Josh's childhood idea go from a crayon drawing he did when he was 7 to a line of indie miniatures with a couple of games using other systems intio its own hit game with its own rules and plastics and 3D models.
I just started assembling the crusaders from the starter box. Once I was done gluing the chests to the backs, i realized they were numbered... I got most of them to fit well, but had to fill some cracks I created by not paying attention. At least i saw this before the arms went on.... Coftryans should go ok.
Quar is the most recent Tabletop game I've fallen in love with. A friend showed it too me, and I just could not stop looking through the lore and old rule books. The Pocket Edition left me wanting, and I ended up going through all the rule books to covert their rules into the pocket edition, including the tanks! Which I set up at anywhere from 300 to 500 points depending on rules like Indomitable! It's an incredible game with plenty of freedom to do what you want with it!
Very cool! I'm really loving getting into indie wargames. I went all-in on Mobile Arms from Black Site Studios, and the mech faction I put together was so fun to paint and a lot of fun to play with. I don't anticipate finding many other people locally to play with but the preorder starter came with enough mechs for two so I just split with my wargame friend and we've played a few games so far. I also picked up Frostgrave 2nd edition as a game to play with basically any fantasy minis I can scrounge up, and A Billion Suns which is a space combat game which I can use some OnePageRules spaceship STLs with.
I got my Quar the other day and I love them, all assembeled and ready to paint. Only thing I wonder is what kind of magnets to use in their bases, my ones for 40k models are too big..
for the longest time now I've wanted to kitbash a guard army made of Quar, like have them be guard troops have them sticking out of Rogal Dorn tanks and manning the Field Ordnance Battery's etc. I think it would be such a perfect lil army I might tackle "one day" (My Deathwatch and Salamanders still have some painting left to do for them)
I would love to have a 28mm bag of baguettes. Orks are similar to these guys as far as modeling possibilities The modeling, price point, and uniqueness makes Quar a no brainer
I have seen things with Quar for a long while now...plastics are pushing me into considering it more. Several people had some forces on the Lead Adventure Forums over the years as the game/setting has developed.
I just bought Mish Mash's collab faction's Rhyflers, the Gloamers, I'm excited for my 3D Printer to come in and I can then print these silly little guys
That activation deck is really interesting. But I already have some other games to learn, minis to paint, and terrain to craft up. *Sideeye to the Relicblade collection*
I’d like to watch you play this. That would be cool. The style you’ve chosen is great, something about this reminds me of final fantasy or Brian jaques red wall books from my childhood. Really lovely models, very cool. Oh and a bit of dark crystal?
I've been eyeing the Quar for almost 8 months now. Probably will eventually pick up the starter box at some time but I'm working on some other project at the moment.
It looks like someone made a game out of a scrapped Ralph Backshi animated film. I would love to see the "Wizards" characters incorporated or made into their own skirmish game.
Thanks to INTOTHEAM for sponsoring this video! Go check out their fantastic deal on great graphic tees! Your mom will love them! intotheam.com/EonsofBattleAM10
Show us a battle.
In the grim dankness of Alwyd there is only “Quar”
Lol
QUAAAAAAAAGH
My buddy started collecting them a little while back and keeps getting upset when I call it Wormhammer
This is amazing.
you'll regret that!
It's more fun than grimdwerp. 🤣 It is actually really fun imho.
Warn'teater
Because it's Quarhammer
The best description for the Quar I've seen is "grimsical," having personalities as a balance of halflings and goblins, and it makes sense when you see the cute artwork paired with the horrors of warfare.
And you forgot to mention - THEY HAVE A MYMINIFACTORY TRIBE! monthly models, including tractors!
Jay! Do the "Tank with the Tree, with Nooses" because that is awesome BUT with hams and sausages and bundles of herbs tied on there drying out because troops always end up provisioning themselves a bit as they go 😃!
5:24 Jay said “in the thick of it” before catachan got new models💀

Quar collaboration with MishMash when?
Mishmash has been doing Quar videos for a while now
This is my one Christmas wish
Colab would be great
💯 vote yes.
He wrote some of the lore for the new royalist faction, and he did their miniature spotlight on his channel in a mishmash sorta way.
Hearing Darkwood reminded me when I watched a 8 hour Darkwood video about the game
Probably not from thag one streamer guy :)
@eriktheos6022 Totally not from sloptuber 9000
So happy you’re taking about Quar!
I remember when Quar were a line of 10 minis by an indie caster. I love that they've grown into a game.
Quar lore is one that looks kind of cute at first and then gets more spooky when you look at it longer
Super cool. Love how inspired you are by this game. The turnip 28 connection is awesome.
Great video! I really like the Crusaders. They're fun to build and paint.
Please kitbash a little "come at me bro'' meme anteater quar dude 😂❤
16:11 "And I've got these little trench crusaders"
*squints*
and the line about them being WW1-y at the end... I'm so unsure if these were extremely clever references or not lol
Wouldn't be the first person I've seen using Quar for TC.
Please do a 40K/Quar mashup. They’d be a perfect Xenos faction. You could call it “QuartyK”
I’ve seen a couple people play. This game. Characters are likable makes you think of the Muppets, but if it was in a gritty world.
Love to see you look into Silver Bayonet if you want a weird indie wargame
Quar rocks. I love the minis, I love the game rules, and I love the plastic-compatible STL expansion bits you can use to build even more factions.
Also, the Tractors are so stylish and cool!
New eons of battle on my lunch break? Perfect timing
Mahlzeit!
Hahaha

So glad you did a video on Quar! Always been interested in it!
Now I'm almost tempted to kitbash some Nurgle-corrupted Quar just for the hell of it
For the nooses on the tank, you should use extra Quar heads and make spooky ghosts.
I picked up a starter set when they released, and gave a starter set to a friend that I knew would appreciate Quar, for his birthday. Have built and primed one faction so far. Looking forward to playing. Thanks for sharing.
The best part of Quar is that you can give your opponent a VP just because something fun happened!
Quarnip 28 sounds like a good time. Been playing around with some simple kitbashes with my crusaders and figuring out some neat stuff. Quar are fun.
I saw the title of the video and was like "if this is abput quar i will be so happy" and lo, it was about quar
I have been in a bit of warhammer burnout this is perfect and I can convince some of my family to play this during Christmas. Love videos like this that show me games I would otherwise never find out about. Thank you Jay!
Quar has such big british vibes. From the names to the gear to the artstyle it just vibes
I just discovered Quar myself. It's great to see such enthusiasim for a non GW game. BTW alot of the minis can be found on My Mini Factory as well. The designer modeler also has a lot of cool "fantasy" models as well. He's really talented!!
Your inner Black Templar is showing when you described the decor on the tank. Also, when you talked about getting into close combat with them.

I saw Quar recently at a local convention. Looks very cute, but it doesn't quite do it for me. But I would love to see it get popular!
Those terrain bits to fit on cardboard are fantastic. I'd love a fantasy version.

Maybe the mushrooms ain't growing out of them but it's just camo, but living camo.

Me: That shirt looks great. May ask where it is from.
**Cue INTO THE AM ad**
Me: Damn you got me.
I love painting Quar, I’ve painted some Coftyran Infantry and their not only easy, but really fun and customizable
I really needed that amount of enthusiasm and pure joy today
Finally a follow up video for Quar! Thanks Jay!!!

Damn you Jay. Your infectious enthusiasm has left me no choice but to buy the starter box!
New post right in my breakfast time? Perfect
Not Jay pronouncing "Quar" like "car" when it's right next to "war"... 😂
The trenchrunners with the skull masks look especially adorable!
The minis look like if jim henson wanted to make a kids show about WWI
I'd love to see those Quar get painted if you're planning on releasing a video for them! I really dig the aesthetic you chose
I like the idea of this game! It has a slight, "Lemmings" aesthetic to it, with "Spy vs. Spy" in the mix!

Great review! 🤘 I'm still thinking about this one. I dig the setting, the lore, and the models, but I don't have much space for ANOTHER wargame. 😰

@@jamesbogart3334 Now that's something I'm looking forward too! Thanks for the information!
Picked the 2 player box yesterday and I'll be painting by Christmas

I would love to have a 28mm bag of baguettes.
Orks are similar to these guys as far as modeling possibilities
The modeling, price point, and uniqueness makes Quar a no brainer
Chapters of Quar:
Morning Tea Club
Mid Morning Tea Club
Afternoon Tea Club
Better Manners Division
And the most vicious of all….Dessert Stormtroopers
The only thing left to do is figure out how to play "Apocalypse" Quar with 100+ models on a side on a 6x4 table
couldnt agree with you more. Quar has been such a cool refreashing take on table top war gaming...
It reminds me of the animated movie "wizards"
I have seen things with Quar for a long while now...plastics are pushing me into considering it more. Several people had some forces on the Lead Adventure Forums over the years as the game/setting has developed.
I just bought Mish Mash's collab faction's Rhyflers, the Gloamers, I'm excited for my 3D Printer to come in and I can then print these silly little guys
Lego actually did make new ships with rebuild the galaxy. They were based on actual Star Wars ships but they were definitely different
Does anyone else love seeing someone be so enthusiastic about the simpler things in life? If I'm ever not broke, I may get this.
They really look like Vaughn Bode characters. I dig it!
They have to make a Box with civilian scavangers...and the Box should be named "this Quar of mine"
That activation deck is really interesting. But I already have some other games to learn, minis to paint, and terrain to craft up. *Sideeye to the Relicblade collection*
Hrm, weird with a WWI vibe? Perhaps they could be used in a Crusade in Trenches.
Wow your kitbash squad is soooo cool. I don't get how you do that stuff with miliput (Well I do know practice) but they look so clean and official
I love these little dudes, they give me the same vibe that I got the first time I saw RTB01s up close
I might have to get knee deep into quar, cant wait for you to do more videos on it
I just learned there’s a video game based on the universe called, “quar infernal machines” this is just awesome 🤣
I’d like to watch you play this. That would be cool. The style you’ve chosen is great, something about this reminds me of final fantasy or Brian jaques red wall books from my childhood. Really lovely models, very cool. Oh and a bit of dark crystal?
You should make a QUAR Airship, that would be amazing. It could act as a gameboard
Thank you so much i will be acquiring quar
My only issue with quar is how small the world is, right now, one species, rather few vehicles, need more to bite onto
Just got my first quar in november, its so fun
NEED MOAR QUAR!!!!!!!!
The Tribes on My Mini Factory is providing a lot of tanks for the game!
Now I'm about to go down a rabbit hole into This Quar's War. Like I actually need another game taking up space on my shelves. LOL
Please can you kitbash a war band for trench crusade? I’d love to see your take on it and some of these left over quar bits look perfect for it.
2x2 gameboard, sounds like you need to dust off that awesome goblin cavern board you built!
I bought the riflers set. I need to build them now.
QUAR, the war of the Anteaters! Cool idea.
Great video! I subbed
Picked up Clash of Rhyfles. Everything looks great. Just waiting to get a chance to actually play the game.
Quar have been around for a good while, PS4 and Steam games were released in 2016 so essentially is a pre-existing IP,
