Seal Rescued from Choking

- Another rescue day at Cape Cross. There are no towns or cities or even villages close by, but many seals find themselves entangled in different types of ocean rubbish, often with unknown origin.
This seal found himself choking from a piece of bright white plastic packaging strap around his neck. He was very likely playing with us under water and tried to swim through the loop, only to get stuck in it. As the seal grew, the plastic loop would have gotten tighter and tighter, eventually taking his life.
Luckily the rescuers from Ocean Conservation Namibia were close and quickly grabbed him with the rescue net. A few moment later, the entanglement was cut in half, and the seal was allowed to join his friends again, totally unharmed.
A few seconds of action saved his life. 🦭
