    Galio would be a great follow up to Sylas. To learn more about Durand's work on petricite.
    The dark smoke cloud in the short story was Happ's magic. Sylas was just copying it.
    I recommend the other short stories of Sylas. Obviously He has so many to fit in the video but they're a good read. And the wiki gives you a general summary of them as you read. Glad you checked the lore article this time haha.
    Taliyah is a mage, she just has elemental magic, like Yasuo. Ixtal is the region where elemental magic is used for everything.
    Sylas just got a few teasers for his upcoming game! And riot has been tweeting some letters with hidden messages about Demacia. At first I thought they were from Jarro Lightfeather (Ezreal cover name) because they seemed like a tourist visiting Demacia wrote them but then I noticed the hidden message.

    In lore - Sylas has a special type of magic. For one - he can sense magic and other mages with a sixth sense-like ability. And his second (and most interesting) ability is to temporarily absorb the magic of others and use it as his own. Even Petricite (materiál that absorbs magic and is used against mages) can't hold him because he can absorb the absorbed magic inside the petricite, thus negating its effects. He can even use the magic of gods despite being a mortal

    It's a mystery who actually killed King Jarvan the 3rd, but Sylas and his immediate associates are for sure not the ones since we see what they wrre doing during the comics. So the most common theory is that it was a Noxian assassin who took advantage of the rebellion in order to sow more chaos, si ce Noxians have a lot of spies everywhere.

      @@jackhilton4285 first of all this was written before i played the mageseeker game, they drastically changed his character in it, making him more of a naive dumbass rather than a genocidal maniac, but the critique stands.
      My perspective is that both are bad for Demacia, and both lead to far too much death to make anything worth it, im simply taking a more anti-sylas stance because few people do so in the comments and are blinded by their own personal misguided desire for revolution/change. Also worth noting that Lux is also doing everything she can for mages but she is doing so without a single person being harmed - and she is infinitely more effective at it than Sylases destruction and murder, in fact the only reason that the mageseeker game gets resolved the way it does (dont worry no spoilers) is because of Lux - and not Sylas, Riot straight up states that.
      Major cultural or political change is only possible if either there is mass death or the ruling class supports change, those are the only two ways that something can get changed so drastically in the real world, i am simply stating that getting the ruling classes on board with the idea is a far better alternative to civil war, which is something that every sane person would agree with. In the old comment i made i advocated for compromise (a far more realistic way to have the situation resolved than what happened in the mageseeeker game), but i suppose we are long past that point in the story since riot just doesnt know what to do with Sylas (they keep portraying him as a villain, and then do a full 180, then realize this doesnt make sense and change course again, etc...)

    • @Erebus008
      @Erebus008 Год назад

      @@FallenGranny How many have to die in order to convince the ruling class that their ideals are wrong and evil? You're right, these are indeed the two main ways of achieving change in such issues, but to say that the violent approach is misguided and ineffective is just unrealistic. The convincing you speak off takes years to achieve, years where a category of people are being mistreated, tortured, imprisoned, slaughtered. The convincing you speak off, in all reality, doesn't even work as a sole approach, the violence needs to occur in order to raise awareness, as well as to make the approach of a more peaceful outcome more favourable. Otherwise, why would the privileged even consider a change in their unbothered life. It always goes as such, a violent revolution or the threat of one, a peaceful suggestion, then the favoured outcome. You start with peace while the innocents are being slaughtered in the dark, you get nowhere.

    Aphelios has the best theme. .
    Edit: "If you imprison people for being a certain way then... c'mon".
    To play devil's advocate for Demacia, the entire kingdom was founded by a group of survivors finding refuge in a forest where the trees absorbed magic. In the Rune Wars, a bunch of mages picked up some of the world runes and used them as the magical equivalent as nukes. Think cold-war but actual armageddon. Heimerdinger lived through that and that's why he's like fk no to Jayce when they start poking at magic.
    Demacia has their problems... they are also the main real reason why Noxus doesn't completely control the continent. Demacia is not expansionist, and for all their hypocrisy, they still uphold the virtues of honor, justice (Kayle's mother), noblesse oblige, all the fancy holy knight in shining armor stuff that makes them not like Noxus, or the Freljordian barbarians.
    So long as your NOT a mage... Demacia probably has the highest standard of living for most people in the world.
    Sylas also is an anarachist. Well, not quite. Urgot is the true anarchist, and doesn't like ANY form of government whatsoever. Sylas specifically doesn't like Demacia's. People half-joking just say he's more communist than anarchist. Which... take that as you will.

    • @FallenGranny
      @FallenGranny Год назад +2

      to add to this, its not just The Rune Wars, but also all the demons that plague Demacia can easily be linked with magic, Noxus who are constantly at war with Demacia use mages a lot - even Swain is somewhat a mage due to Raum, the barbarian raids from the Freljord most likely utilize mages, or at the very least magical weaponry (true ice). Everything that wants to destroy Demacia and its people can be tied back to magic. And now Sylas and his rebellion is only proving them right yet again, that mages are far too powerful and can never be allowed to roam free as all they want to do is destroy Demacia (as sylas is literally comitting mass murder/genocide).
      Runeterras world is quite ruthless, and the overwhelming use of magic for both good and evil has massive effects and implications on everything and everyone. Thinking that Demacia is outright wrong or evil for despising magic is very short-sighted imo - especially when literally ALL of the worlds most horrible attrocities and villains were created by magic, Demacias ideology much more nuanced and a morally grey. if only Demacia forced mages to leave their borders instead of imprisoning them they would be 100% morally right. there are plenty of places that love mages and value them greatly, even on Demacias own borders they can just go over to Noxus and find great success in little to no oversight with their magical practices.
      Imo Demacia doesnt need to change that much in order to be a beacon of morality in the lore, and they most certainly dont need to accept mages, which will hopefully be the outcome of Sylases rebellion but who knows.

A similar thing happened to Noxus and its ideals, but Swains got them back on track for the most part, but i dont see a way for the same to happen to Demacia, there is no happy ending here, both J4s ideas and Sylases are taking it too far and are bad for Demacia

    • @FallenGranny
      @FallenGranny Год назад

      @@negate4828 Demacias treatment of mages was always poor, but only after Sylas escaped and tried to kill Jarvan III, did Jarvan IV start going down the actual evil path - as he believed that Sylas and other escaped mages just murdered dozens of Demacians and his father J3, before this they were simply sent away from demacia, imprisoned if they had particularly destructive powers or did smth wrong, and experimented on in hopes of "curing" them from magic - just look at Sylas' own story, before he (accidentally) killed 2 people and a child he was being treated fairly decently and had a nice life. Their treatment of mages was a lot more understanding before Sylas did Sylas things while still being wrong ofc. And while Sylas' actions might be understandable, they can never be justified as that would imply he is in the right, and trust me - you dont want to argue about moral good when it comes to preaching genocide of most non-mage demacians

    • @FallenGranny

      Sylas was literally imprisoned for (accidentally) killing 2 government employees and a CHILD, as well as evading authorities after doing so - im pretty sure that a non mage person would also be imprisoned for life for these crimes, in fact he honestly got lucky that he wasnt executed on the spot. people always seem to forget this. before this incident, while being a second grade citizen for sure, he was doing fine and was living a good, if lonely life despite being a mage. The way mages were treated and seen was very different during J3s rule than J4s - altho they were always discriminated for sure, they were, for the most part, treated with a lot more understanding than they are now - and Sylas is to blame for much of this change as J4 thinks that Sylas killed J3 and on top of this Sylas and the other escaped mages went on a murder spree in the capital besides attempting to commit regicide.
      While J4s Demacia is for sure very evil towards mages, i doubt it would have changed it stance much if at all if Sylas didnt do what he did.
      Oh and on top of this Sylas is at best the same level of evil as J4, because while J4 is advocating for genocide of mages, Sylas is advocating of genocide of pretty much every non-mage Demacian. And i gotta say, thats a pretty villainous thing to do for both of them.

While also hating people that simply watch as his people are literally treated like animals (hell even worse tbh) he never outright says “kill all none mages” he always says to kill all royalty tho.
      Sry I’m texting this on my phone so it’s hard to read and prof read.

      @@LyionOfRoses okay let me elaborate on everything i said and my personal view on this, and im not saying that Sylas is wrong, but i am saying that he isnt a "good" character.
      1) They thought they knew his powers of sensing mages so they didnt think they had secondary even stronger powers - and this is demacia they certainly arent gonna train a mage. While it is true that it was an accident, no one but Sylas knows this as he killed the only witnesses, and then ran away - so what is demacia supposed to think? but to be fair i doubt they would care even if they knew it was an accident, but also to be fair if you racked up a double manslaughter charge + child endangerment IRL you would be in prison for life most likely as well so their punishment wasnt THAT cruel (beside the oversized shackles).
      2) Sylas sees everyone who supports or does nothing against the current regime of Demacia as complicit and deservant of death (as you can see in that story Avant read near the start of Sylas killing everyone who was in the noblemens caravan), and almost all Demacians work for/with nobles in their day to day lives as this is a monarchy, even if they had a differing opinion on mages if they wanted to continue earning money for their families and keep their social standing they would support the regime - making Sylas' actual viewpoint the genocide of at least 80% of Demacians if not more - even if these people are just trying to live their lives and not care about such things.
      3) just to add that he isnt a good person, he ran away after commiting the accidental murder, and then he tricked Lux into helping him and used her - these are more personal choices that show his character outside of his ideology and imho they arent good behaviors. We can also arguably add that his whole "tear it down" idea is pretty stupid since he doesnt have a plan on what to build back up after its torn down, also he isnt afraid of using outsiders for help in his rebellion (like the freljordian barbarians) which brings its own problems with it.
      Last few things i want to add is that the treatment of mages under J3s rule was very different from the treatment of mages under J4s, and J4s view on mages is heavily influenced by Sylas breaking out and trying to commit regicide (J4 thinks Sylas killed his father J3). And while mages were often second class citizens demacia wasnt advocating for the real evil things they are doing rn until J4s rule began. And also Demacias treatment of mages comes from all the way back to the Rune Wars where they were survivors of magical nukes essentially - so the mages started it first and gave them the reason to hate them.
      With all of this said do i think that Sylas is more evil than J4? No, i would say that just because of the hypocrisy J4 and his system are a bit more evil, but Sylas is by no means the good guy, he is just a different shade of evil imo. Riot ACTUALLY wrote a good story where everyone has bad things about them and good things - they finally did what i was hoping they would do with Kayle/Morganas story, and im surprised so many people see Sylas as the defacto right choice when its the opposite of what Riot wanted to convey i think. Either way for me it will always be: Demacia drools, Noxus rules :P
