Small heads up, when giving him the remember commands, you have to split up the command into sections. say "Hey Artoo!" wait for him to respond, then say "Do you remember?" then wait for his response, and only after he responds, say the name of the character. The times where Artoo would randomly start moving around, and running away, is because he misinterpretted your speech as "Follow" Me, and he was trying to follow you around. Since he was moving, he wouldn't respond to any other commands until you picked him up, or bop him on the head. (You can bop him on the head to get him to stop what he's doing! Be careful not to do it too often, or he will get in a bad mood. It was the same thing with the turning commands, you have to say them in segments, (Ex: "Hey Artoo!" wait for him to respond "Command Mode!" wait for his response "Turn Left" Wait for response "One Unit" Then he will run the command. There's a specific sound he makes if you have his attention, and its the same sound he makes when entering a mode, acknowledging part of a command, or simply answering to his name being called. It's also worth noting that he can switch modes on his own, or easily mistake something you say casually, as a mode. If you try giving him a command from a mode that he is not currently in, he will often shake his head, or seem to ignore your commands alltogether. IF this happens, tell him "Reset System!" He will make the acknowledgement sound, and turn his head to the front, and that indicates he is reset to the default mode. You have to say reset system every time you want to get out of a mode that he is in, (For example, he starts in Companion mode. IF you tell him to go into game mode, he will not exit game mode until you say Reset system first, then the name of the mode you want him to go into. companion mode is the default for him resetting, so you don't have to tell him to go into the mode. You just can't have him go from game mode, directly to command mode, or vice versa. Reset System always puts him into companion mode. The manual doesn't make it too clear, but there is no voice command for Companion Mode. Companion Mode is the main mode At 23:40 , he did another "follow me" type command, where he looks for you. When he's doing that, he's simply trying look at you, without following you. He kind of looks around until he sees you, then tracks you. Bop him on the head to get him to stop, as when he is moving he does not listen for commands. There's also some fun secret songs to figure out too, by asking him certain characters in a row, or doing certain commands in a sequence! (Try asking Artoo if he remembers Anakin, then after he's done reacting, ask him if he remembers Darth Vader!) (Side note since I mentioned Anakin haha, becauseful not to refer to Anakin as "Anakin Skywalker", since he will always read it as Luke Skywalker. For Luke, you have to say Skywalker on the end of it, and for Anakin, it's just the first name. He was made in 2002, so I suppose the sensors don't detect the the entire sentence and "autocorrect" it, but rather read key words. There's a lot of great thing that he can do, and a lot to find out as you go! Sorry for the long breakdown, but there's a lot of confusing stuff on him and not a lot of information online for it, so I figured I'd list off some of it off the top of my head since I'm here. Oh! One more thing, lmao When he first turns on, his front light will flash red and blue for around 45 seconds, and he won't be fully warmed up untill after his light turns solid blue. When it's flashing after turning him on, he might ignore some commands simply because it's still powering on.
