- New York icon Lawrence Taylor was a one man wrecking machine for Big Blue the most dominate player in the history of the NFL arguably the best line backer...L.T had serious demons of the field but it seemed not to affect his play he was such a nightmare he changed the game to the point his drug use and other out of control ways barely get brought up in terms of his productivity...he was freakish, won 2 Superbowls 10 probowls the only linebacker to win an MVP and 2 defensive player to win the award (Allen Paige) do you know how dominate a year you have to have to even be in the conversation for most valuable player? L.T' is the meaning of beast mode

If you are to young to remember the 80's late winter, CBS station, the NFC East football, Philly with Reggie White, and Randall Cunningham, or Dallas with Randy White and Too Tall Jones, the Giants with LT and Banks, or Redskins with Mann an Manley, with Madden and Summerall calling the game, it didn't get any better than that

brought a smile to my face reading all the names you mentioned. in particular Manster and Too Tall since I'm a Cowboys fan, but i loved watching each of those men do their work while listening to the greatest NFL commentators ever.
To be named Defensive Player of the Year as a Rookie, enough said.
My man, you mean named DPOTY his first TWO seasons!!
In my estimation, if the NFL took Taylor’s final year at UNC Chapel Hill into consideration he could have won DPOTY in 1980.

I live in PA and every time I hear some older dude tell me Jack Ham was the greatest OL in history I just look at them, pause, and with derision in my voice I say two words - LAWRENCE TAYLOR. No disrespect to Mr Ham but LT was a whole level above him.
Facts my dude 👍
GOD BLESSED GIANTS FANS WITH GIVING US LAWRENCE TAYLOR ( LT). HE ENRICHED THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS MAYBE MILLIONS OF FANS WITH HIS PLAY! I DOUBT IF THERE'LL EVER BE ANOTHER LT. ALL I CAN SAY 4 MYSELF AND 4 MILLIONS IS SAY THANK U LAWRENCE . GODBLESS U MAN !

Pure inspiration is Lawrence Taylor.
We love you LT and thank you for what you gave and may our Lord give to you all glory and his infinite blessings.
So dominant with so much class. He didn’t try to KILL the opponent. He was an amazing athlete and football player that just dominated the line of scrimmage for a decade.
Guy was a multiple felon, sex offender & crackhead. Great player though, not the classiest human
If I started an NFL team and could pick any player from any era, it’s LT first overall...no question
@Ricky Norton You sound offended. It’ll be okay little one. It’s just a personal preference.
@Ricky Norton guess you didn’t watch the 1990 NFC championship game. Or maybe you’re a 49er fan and have a selective memory? I like how you try to discredit what he did in his career without watching him play or taking the time to look at his accolades and stats. And you say factual as if you were there. Come again lil boy 😂
@Ricky Norton I’m not referring to that play. Watch the game. You’re prob the only person in this world trying to discredit LT 🤦🏻♂️ Go get your head checked.
@Ricky Norton No Steeler player will be on LT’s level. Those teams were dominant as a whole. LT literally changed how the game is played. He was a one man wrecking machine.
Lawrence taylor the type of dude to rob back the robber that tried to rob him.
I consider myself blessed to have been a Giants fan in Brooklyn, New York in the 1980's. I was watching draft night when Lawrence Taylor was drafted by my team, the Giants. At that time the team was the laughingstock of the league. I was actually in front of my television set on that fateful afternoon when Joe Pisarcik, sorry excuse for a qb, commited what would forever be termed the fumble. Instead of kneeling with the lead and the ball with seconds left in the game. giants decide to hand the ball off, the rest is history. QB fumbled the ball, Herman Edwards, who was the DB on the Philadelphia Eagles at the time, scooped the ball up and ran untouched into the end zone with no time left on the clock to win the game. I was in shock. I could not even finish eating my sunday dinner. I did not even go to school for two days, I was so depressed. That is why I love LT: he singlehandedly changed the culture of the team, the city, my neighborhood. We were no longer the joke of the league.I feel so honored to have watched him on CBS (channel 2 in NY) and videotape almost every game the giants played from 1983-to the day he retired. I still have all of the videocassettes from that era. I will not play them tho, for fear that they will pop, or the coating will come off. I just take them out and look at them from time to time and reminisce. What memories!! I saw it all!!
"Son, Y'all gonna have to do better than this." ~ L.T.

CAUGHT! OWENS MADE THE CATCH!
Taylor is a great among greats because he made the biggest plays at the most crucial moments. Just amazing how an outside LB could get to the only spot on an entire football field where the play to change a game had to be made. He was the Joe Montana of defense.
How did we get this guy? Yowza
I believe L.T was greatest LB of all time any era. Also one of the best defensive player ever as well.
He is the best Defense player, point blank period
Most feared man in the NFL.
Yeah... Ask Elway or Joe from Redskins...
Facts💯💯
Yup.
Say what you want but it took some balls to play Quarterback back in the day
It took some balls to play as any offensive position that LT could tackle...Id rather square off in a gun fight with police than face LT on D.
I remember watching LT going up against Joe Jacoby of the Redskins, Joe was one of the greatest Left Tackles ever. One year Joe only gave up a total of 5 sacks in one year. All 5 of them were given up to LT. That in a nutshell tells you what a dominant force he was, LT is the GOAT and there will never be another like him.
Boss Key Outside linebackers weren't doing that...he was a freak of nature spawned the modern day O-linebacker

Philosopher Mr. O stop it.... No one could block L.T..... Did you watch him growing up....

Elisha Liles true lol but to be honest they are alike in many ways by their attitude and actions while playing wise.... well OBJ aint no scrub
he was talking about Tomlinson
I started watching the Giants in 1979, Simms rookie year.
RUclips stupid.
To say that LT played with passion is an understatement...LT played with a spirit that will never be equaled in any sport. He was impervious to pain therefore in his mind invincible...he could make anything happen at any time...and thus he lived that way off the field as well. LT was non stop both on & off the field so be it!! He loved the game and the city (NYC) in which he played, he loved his teammates and he also and most of all loved winning what more can you say. Thank you for the memories LT and all the the inspiration I get from you on film to this day as well. Going forward stay healthy and God bless you.
You took the words right out of my mouth. You should read the legend LT's Eulogy . That is... if he is Mortal.
That's not entirely true. The same will LT showed on the football field I saw in Jordan. I saw in Walter Payton. So, there have been others.
Sure, there are others with heart and iron wills... But come on...son, y'all gunna have to do better than this.
D redbud.he was nit.get your brains out of your ass idiot
he didn't play with passion, he played high as a kite on crack.
My favorite player of all time. LT was a phenominal player
Think about this. LT retired almost 30 years ago. Today’s players are bigger, stronger, faster, and generally more athletic than those who played 40 years ago. He is one of the few players from his era who could suit up against today’s NFL rosters and still be the best player at his position. He was so far ahead of the curve during his prime.
Federal. Pure d scary
LT was a total masterpiece of an athlete, the finest athletics artist ever, a lion, a shark, a pit bull, a Shaka Zulu with an iron determination, unstoppable will /talent, total focus & built like a powerful angel with a physique sculptures can only dream of
But also you got to remember, in his tell all book he confessed in his late years to being coked up in those games, a lot of those mind blowing stats was drug induced.
hell yes,,youre words should be engraved under his sculpture head piece at the hall of fame ..

@steve hammond Please. Butkus moved at the speed of a continental drift compared to LT. Butkus took on 250 lb lineman while LT dominated 300+ offensive tackles like Joe Jacoby and Mark Tuinei.

He could play the run, pass rush , cover and defend on the goal line. Pay attention to how many times he gets double teamed and or held, but still manages to make the play. Todays linebackers are great athletes, but none have the mindset and tenacity this guy did. None of them can single handedly make the offensive line shit themselves the way LT did.

Being a Giants fan in those days was like being a fan of the Yankees with Mariano in the bullpen , being a Chicago Bulls fan with Michael Jordan on the team, or being an Edmonton Oiler fan with Wayne Gretzky on the team. I truly believe Lawrence Taylor was not only the greatest player on defense, but actually the greatest football player ever! That's because he made another LT an essential role, LT meaning Left Tackle. Mostly though, the man dominated the game and he didn't even have the ball in his hands to do this!
LT was the most devastating defensive player in NFL History.

*when football was real* 🏈
I remember the 80 draft. The Giants desperately needed a quality running back to take the pressure off of Simms. When I read the paper the next day and saw that they drafted a linebacker I audibly cursed, like I did with the Phil Who? pick. We already had great LBs in Van Pelt, Carson, and Kelley--we didn't need another LB. After I saw three plays by LT I silently apologized for my reaction to his pick and said that he was way better than any RB we could have drafted at #2. One three-and-out convinced me that this guy was special with a capital S (for Superman). I'm old enough to remember seeing Sam Huff, Ray Nitschke, Dick Butkus, and LT was like all three combined, with Mickey Mantle's speed thrown in. He was the Bobby Fischer of linebackers.
Lawrence Taylor was drafted in 1981
This is why if you got a once in a lifetime talent, you draft him. The Lakers had a PG when they drafted Magic Johnson. LT came in the DPOY as a rookie. Changed the franchise forever.

The greatest football player..ever🐏
exactly
I can't even argue with you....
I watched back the documentary on him last night. he seems like a good person who turned his life around now.
Greatest football player ever. I saw him single-handedly win so many games for the Giants during the 80's when their offense was so anemic. Causing 4th and longs to allow our offense to be in field goal position even if they couldn't pickup a first down, critical fumbles during times in the game when they needed a big play, and obviously his sacking and tackling ability. To be the all time sack leader when he retired from the LB position didn't make any sense considering he played during a run heavy era in the NFL where QB's threw 20-25 times a game at most.
So strong, so fast but what really separates him from all the other great defensive players of all time was LT's motor. I've been watching football for over 30 years now and I still haven't seen someone play with his level of energy and reckless abandon. The guy just never took a play off. Greatest football player ever for me. You watch him in his prime and it looks like the other 10 guys on his team are playing football while he's trying to kill someone.

Rick I've noticed that to he was mean but played clean much respect top 5 all time 👍
He put a few Q.B.'s into early retirement JT. was one of them .
As already said.not a dirty player at all.look at his reaction after the joe theismann injury
I'm going to agree with you..& not like this comment because it's @ the max already 💪🏾💪🏾
For sure.
He literally scared the QB into submission 28:03
That QB was Joe Montana.
Bobby Cars Ask Joe Theismann as well.
RICHERD_ STEALS At 33:14 Belichick looked like Taylor's baby brother!!!!!!!
It's a miracle LT is in good condition to this day.....he played with reckless abandonment on n off the field.....those day's i would go to see the giants play at the Meadowlands.
Xavier Woods: "You can't expect a player to go full speed for 70 plays a game in the NFL, that's just not possible.."
LT's entire career: "Am I a joke to you?"
