If you have F1TV I suggest you listen to Verstappens onboards from Imola, the exhaust mic sounds so much better at that race for some reason. I’m not sure why, but for some reason in 2021 the exhaust mic had this weird vibration/muffled sound which resulted in the engine sound being overshadowed by the turbo.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really don't like the exhaust mic sounds (loathe the Mercedes engine sounds in particular), albeit apart from the Renault from 2019-'21 with the whistle from what I assume is the turbo, but it sounds a bit like straight cut gears. Best sounds here: 2014 and 2016.
Watch the Ferraris in Sao Paolo and Mexico in 2022. They sounded like they were going to explode. They ran smaller turbos than everyone else, which is why they were so quick out of a turn but just got smoked on high speed corners and straights. I think they changed that for 2023, but they were absolutely nowhere in the higher altitude tracks and the turbo sound was so bad because of it.
I'm glad you share this one with me because I much prefer engine sounds the way that they more or less sound in real life too. I may be weird like this but the exhaust mic somehow makes them sound... wrong?
@@Arado_Missile that is referring to who? I don't know, of course the sound that comes out of the speakers now is GOOD. It just sounds very artificial to me if that makes sense
