    Another great video! Appreciate all the time and effort you put into this. Regarding the cutting, a little tip I've found after using cutoff wheels, dremels, saws, etc. to trim, I've found that an oscillating tool is a great tool for trimming plastic. It doesn't heat up and fling melted plastic all over the place and it's really easy to manage. There's also several different sized heads to be more or less precise. Cheers.

    Thanks for the detailed information in this and the prior video. I am in the late stages of installing 35s on a 2018 GX460, and while I am pretty comfortable with my setup so far, I did pick up some good tips from your video, and you confirmed some things I already knew. Thanks for the pointer for Dr KDSS, some good products there. You also talked me into spindle gussets -- although I don't go off road at the speeds you do, I do some moderately serious rock crawling so it's probably a good idea. I have 35x11.5x17 tires with -10 offset wheels and that definitely simplified fitment compared to 12.5" width, and I am fine with the slightly narrower tire. I will say that if you regear your GX that should alleviate a lot of the transmission overheating you have experienced.

    It’s a good thing I’m staying with 33’s and don’t wheel too hard lol but this made absolute sense to me and even at 33’s I had to do a little cutting on the bumper and fender liner.Gonna do a viper cut at some point, my wife likes that idea.

    I put a much more aggressive front bumper on my GX. Its the one from Expedition One. This, plus the SPC UCAs allowed my alignment guy to push both upper and lower pretty far forward and keep me perfectly in spec. There's nothing in front of the wheel to worry about. I'm only rolling on 33's now (255/80r17) but I'm hoping that I can get up to 35s without having to cut the front fender at all.

      I honestly couldn’t tell you. But if I had to take a guess…. Substantially less. No outer cutting. Minimal (if any) cutting at the portion where the fender connects at the lower corner. So like 70% of the work is gone right there.

    With the SPC UCA's, does adjusting the axle forward affect the reliability of the drive train?

    • @SandyCats
      @SandyCats  Год назад

      Nope. But it may give you more bumpsteer than stock. Not a reliability issue… just a bit less smooth of a drive. Your not moving the axle forward, just the tire, wheel, hub. Pumpkin stays in place.

    This is my first ever comment on RUclips. This content is amazing - but I have a few questions.
    1, why do you do all the fitment without the coilover installed?
    2, can you do this same fitment and testing with the coilover installed?
    3, on the rear passenger side of the GX, if using, or reusing the stock upper control arm, the bracket for the headlights is a mute point?
    4, based off the below (my plan) will the bump stops be an issue for me or can i leave the stock bump stops alone? i certainly do not wheel as hard as you do - but in 5 years or so theres a chance this turns into a dedicated trail rig.
    2023 GX 460 Blackline
    My current plan is to install the lift (ironman 4x4 foam cell pro stage 3 with medium load springs). Once i have the lift installed I will ride on stock wheels and tires for about a month before i start fitment for the bigger wheels and tires.
    I'm going with a 17x8.5, -12mm wheel and a 285/75/17 BFG tire. It's between a 33 and 34 inch tire.
    Once i start fitment and cutting, i had no plans to remove the coils to do this. Can it be done without removing anything?
    I do think my fitment will be much simpler than this video describes, but the process should be the same.

    • @SandyCats
      @SandyCats  Год назад +1

      For 1 & 2. With the coilover installed the coil has too much downward pressure to full allow you to jack up the tire to max height (as you can’t mimic heavier pressure that actually occurs when going over bumps (even on streets). So it’s necessary to remove the coils for the testing and cutting. 3. Correct; mute point. 4. For 33” tires you can stay with stock. If you go higher and you accidentally go over a large bump at speeds off-road or on-road…. Your tire will hit the upper fender and permanently damage it (to the point that it may even prevent your door from opening).
      If you go 33” tire a lot of what was done here can be avoided. Just a body mount chop and that’s it if your not going to wheel hard for now. But if you go 34 or taller… this will all be necessary or you risk ruining your fenders if you start wheeling too hard (even on accident 😂).

    • @joshpagonis9202
      @joshpagonis9202 Год назад

      @@SandyCats Thanks for the reply! This clears up a bunch.
      For the bump stops, could I just use some washers and longer bolts in combination with the stock bump stops to give me the extra bit of clearance needed for the 34" tire? (I believe it measures at 33.9").
      I've done a decent bit of wrenching, but never done suspension work like this fitting bigger wheels and tires. This is my first offroad build. Last build I did was an autocross build. Turbo, brakes, some mild aero, ecu, etc. Wheels and tires fit with just 3 to 5 mm spacers and I ran that for 6 years or so.
      I'm hoping with my offset and the more narrow setup, the fitment is much easier than this video describes.

    • @SandyCats
      @SandyCats  Год назад +1

      @@joshpagonis9202 for the front… washers will definitely be fine. For the rear… maybe as your more narrow (tires). Probably will work.

      @@SandyCats When you manipulate the front wheels when test fitting and finding out whats rubbing, you mentioned that on the 4Runner you had to push the start button but you didnt have to do that on the GX.
      On the GX could you do that with the car completely off? In the video it looks like the headlights are on when you walk in front of it. I wasnt sure if pushing start would do anything with the KDSS system with the valves open.

    • @SandyCats
