- I CAME HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD FOR THIS ( AUSTRALIA ) AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO CAPTURE THE MONKEEMOBILE DRIVING OUT OF TRAILER AT THE 2013 MONKEES CONVENTION TO SET UP FOR DISPLAY , WAS AWSOME !!............I WAS IN MONKEE HEAVEN !!!!! I WILL BE POSTING MORE AFTER OUR 27 HOUR TRIP BACK TO AUSTRALIA . BUT WORTH EVERY MINUTE... ME AND MY WIFE MEET HEAPS OF COOL MONKEES FANS FROM EVERYWHERE . THE MONKESS DEFNITLY LIVE ON THRU THERE FANS .. BUT GUESS WHAT ! .. NO MIKE SO NO SURPRISE WAS A SHAME FOR OVERSEAS FANS WHO NEVER GET A CHANCE TO SEE HIM. EVEN IF HE WAS TO WALK ON THE STAGE AND WAVE AND WALK OF AT LEAST WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE FANS ( LIKE ME ) TO AT LEAST SEE HM LIVE..FOR THE 1ST TIME .. THAT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO ME
Just seeing the car fire up and pull out of the trailer gave me 'Goosebumps' of excitement. It took me back ~ 50 years ago when I watched the Monkee's on TV and then bought the Monkee Mobile model cars. Thanks for sharing that with us. ;-)
Cool ! ... There was only 4-5 people around when I got this , When I asked where was it at the convention staff , they said it was being unloaded .. I was pretty happy to see it fire up !!! Glad you liked it ... Cheers from Down Under ..
I’m sure the parachute will come in handy
The original?....really? This car is only second to the 1966 Batmobile.
how many Monkeemobiles are still out and about? the one in this clip looks odd because the logo on the passenger door is backwards from all the others i have seen
As I recall in the publications of that period, Michael Nesmith seemed to always have "attitude"problems. I don't think he was terribly happy with the idea of being remembered as part of the Hollywood "manufactured" rock group THE MONKEES! I think that he wanted to be seen as a "serious" musician....song writer, and "NOT" being a manufactured cartoon charector in response to the very, very, popular English group "The Beatles" of that era. Anyway, that"s what I recall. Any old timer fans can straighten me out on this take of mine? If I am wrong, I offer my apologies to Mr.. Nesmith, family and fans.
But he was a part of a 'manufactured TV band'. He took that route(and the $), then wanted it changed. Sorry Mike. You did write some good tunes though.
Pontiac's in the 60's never started right away. Our neighbor was a Pontiac salesman when I was growing up.
The fake blower is consistent with the image of this band. The commercialization of the Monkees was so unfortunate - I think they were actually good musicians but probably would never have made it past the local taverns without the PR BS.
I love the monkees and the monkee mobile... had my picture taken standing next to it about 15 years ago at the SEMA convention in Las Vegas, but I think the roof is kind of stupid looking 🙄
that moment it doesn't start D: i love the monkees
did you know Dean Jeffries hired Karl Krumme do to the customizaion for the Monkee Mobile, Dean was a Painter.
What a lucky moment to be there at that time! I was there and did manage to see both of the Monkeemobiles, but both were just by pure luck since there didn't seem to be any announcement or signs. Were you the one with the jacket that had "Australian Monkees Fan" on the back? I was going to say "hi" but didn't get the chance...I have a dear friend who lives in Melbourne and was curious where in Australia you had traveled from!
A little known fact . One of the two original Monkeemobiles came to Coolangatta on the Gold Coast as part of a touring display . It cost 40 c to enter the show tent . I was there in 1968 as a super excited 9 year old . After this show the Monkeemobile disappeared and no one seems to know what happened to it . 20 years later it appeared in a closed Hotel auction in Mexico as a disused airport transfer vehicle . It was still in reasonable shape . Some lucky buyer bid $5000 USD and won ...WOW . Does anyone have any idea what happened to it after the Coolangatta show . PLEASE POST
The car was purchased in Puerto Rico in an auction. How it got there painted pink and used as a hotel car is anyone’s guess.
How many of these things are there? None I've seen so far on you tube are the original. Always someone's morphadite idea of what it was.
Are there at least 4 Monkeemobiles? One with no logo, one with the proper guitar logo, one with the name in gold letters but not their logo and then this one?
I think they’re down to one. Mike totaled one of them.
The original 2 still exist as there were only 2 made by Dean Jeffries for the show. The rest are copies.
I love the car, but why is the Monkee's emblem backwards. The guitar should have been going the other way. With the name Monkees in the body of the guitar and finishing in the neck and headstock. This has it starting in the headstock and finishing in the body of the guitar.
You're right, but on the driverside door they did it right
George Barris did that when he purchased and restored the car his way claiming he was the original builder.
It doesn’t sound like the blower is functioning.
very cool video. cut nez some slack, he was probably getting ready for his solo tour which is getting rave reviews.
This car and the Munsters car were my two cars i wanted as a kid growing up.
It's not the same one that Barratt jackson auctioned off as the only one on earth
The logo is SO wrong...
R.I.P Davy Jones
tv in oz back then the monkees and the banana splits
To say that this is a 'fake' is a little harsh. There were two prominent 'tribute cars' built, one by George Barris (who owns one of the originals) and Dick Dean (who worked on the originals). This is likely to be this car. There was also tribute car built for the Monkees 45th anniversary tour, which was overseen by Dean Jefferies and has the dash signed by 3 of the 4 Monkees. By the way, the two originals had different door logos anyway.
George Barris did not build the Monkeemobile. Dean Jefferies built the Monkeemobile. George Barris bought the Monkeemobile and put his name on it.
I love these one off custom cars from a time gone by
exactly...I was thinking that too....it is NOTHING like the Monkees insignia....looks awful actually...who ever did the decal obviously did not know the insignia.
Too bad it's a copy not the real one.
Real motor not rice burner
Someone was whistling the theme song in the background.😁
This has to be replica. The original car had white interior and NO LOGO at all on either side. If you don't believe me, watch "Saturday's Child" video which was on their first album and broadcast on the early on TV episodes. You can see for yourself.
And what is up with the logo? Did actual monkey's design this? So obviously wrong for us die hard Monkees fans.
I was thinking the same thing! It looks all wrong!!
No. I believe that George Barris designed it, he did a lot of cool mods back in the day including the Batmobile - check out his website.
Richard Cameron Dean Jeffries designed the original and George Barris restored it in 2012. The one in this video looks like a replica. The interior and logo are all wrong.
Yeah the logo is backwards .
+snooooopycomehome If you watch little bit me, little bit you, it has the same footage as Sat child, and when Mike Nesmith takes it out of the trailer, NO logo, but when Davy is racing it in another part of the video, it has the logo, so I assume the logo might have been added a few episodes later..
Logo is wrong
Fake blower!
Yes ! , That was me .I meet heaps of people by wearing my jacket . We had come from Adelaide, South Australia just for this event , it was a lucky moment , .I was getting frustrated by no show of Monkeemobile on the friday and asked on the saturday where was it , I was told it was outside still in the trailer ... When I went outside there was only a couple of people there so I was really happy to see it driven out the trailer and set up .. I also got great pictures with it as well ..Cheers!
Were to busy singing to put any body down.
Glad they got that thing started. Would be embarrassing to ask somebody for a jump.
thanks for posting! i didn't even get to see it, didn't know it was there :(
Hey hey we're The Monkees. And people say we Monkee around.
And were to busy singing, to put anybody down
That car is SICK! I love it!
What an ugly car that top is hideous.
That is beautiful
snooooopycomehome, You are absolutely right. I just watched Saturday's Child. The original had white interior and no Logo on the side. Also, there were 3 rows of seats in the car.
I don't know if it is still there...but there was one in the Car Stars Museum in Gatlinburg Tennessee...I was there...saw it and had my pic taken beside it...it was suppose to have been one of the original cars used in the show.
I WAS There! It was so cool and fun, a great experience really.
I have the original toy model and yeah this car looks different but what a great looking frontal view anyway ! and Thanks for sharing ! Will
I got some good pics as well...it sure was a thrill to see it up close! Nice that you were able to make the trip, I think it may have been a once in a lifetime opportunity...there may be other conventions, but this one for was Davy. Were you and your wife at the sing-along in the lobby Sat. night? I got a nice video of the group doing Daydream Believer...magical...
Who is the skinny lady wearing blue ??
Maybe that's why it was towed away one time: search Unbelievable: The MONKEEmobile ticketed and towed away!
I want it.
Very cool.
why is the monkees insignia on the passenger door screwed up?
I still can't believe that top stayed on when the car was driven!
And like the goofy show, it died as well.
Its a shame they took of the Blower and put a Dummy set up on it. Would loved to drive that sucker with a Blown Monster!
The blower was always fake.it covered up a 4bbl carb in the blower housing.Just like the Dragula was never blown ot had a 289 cobra punched out to a 427cu.in.it had a Mickey Thompson intake and 2 Holley 4bbls.
@@robertloney46 ,actually it had a functioning blower in the beginning. Mike Nesmith almost lost control of the car and the blower was gutted and replaced with a carburetor
They were actually two cars used on set. So this could be one of the original cars used.
No Davy Jones Either gone ...
black planet.
Ugly car
why did it stall?
Cold blooded. Carbureted..took a bit to warm up.
no other band had there own customized car
ev dallas well, ZZ Top, the Beach Boys, Johnny Cash among others did!
Paul Revere and the Raiders had the Raiders couch.built by Barris.also the Vox mobile.
