So would I. I missed their gig twice in late 1990s due to an illness and the chance is there no more. The Gathering and Type O Negative, two jewels of atmospheric music that are gone with the wind.
They didn't fit the mold in the US. First all metal bands had to be party rock - think Aersmith or Guns n' Roses - and after that they had to be numetal - think Blink 182 or Limp Bizkit. Less conforming bands like The Gathering or Lacuna Coil never got any exposure because they didn't fit the programming.
Well Europe for its part preferred different types of heroic schlager and growling penguins or something. But at least they aren't totally unknown, so let's just be happy.
these versions of these songs are all better than the albums or earlier performances. i think they matured into these songs and can only now give them their full due
"Mandylion" is an unrivaled masterpiece. Alone is superior to all the albums of Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation and other bands that emerged afterwards. The Gathering at the time of "Mandylion" and "Nightime Birds" was unbeatable. Classic.
Anneke wil je TG25 Live in Doornroosje nog een keer over doen ,ik heb het beste consert van the gathering ooit gemist. En met mij velen, mede dankzij jouw en floor jansen heeft Metal in Nederland een ander aanzien gekregen.
@@acolytetojippity Saturnine is a really popular song among the fans but it was never released as a single (although I believe everyone realises that was a big mistake...) Unfortunately Century Media was not really into promoting TG by that time. I believe "Strange Machines" is still their most popular song to the general listener
Yes, I'm from Spain, fan since early-mid 2000's but I was underage at that time (and lived far from big cities) so... not many chances to see them live (until now)

I'll try to answer your questions. (Sorry, my dutch is not very good and google translator has it's limits ^^') The band members right now are: René Rutten, Hans Rutten, Frank Boeijen, Silje Wergeland and Hugo Prinsen Geerligs. They have programmed some tour dates for their 30th anniversary tour. You can check them on their Facebook page!! :)
lyrics:
It has always been in the back of my mind
Dreaming about going through the corners of time
I always wanted to fly
In strange machines
I wanna do centuries in a lifetime
And feel it with my hands
Touch the World War II and Cleopatra
Flying
Could it be that my dream would come true
Building a machine that would actually do
What I want it to do
Russian Revolution let's do that in one day
Beethoven and Gershwin I think that would be okay
More than anything I wanna fly
In strange machines
I wanna do centuries in a lifetime
And see it with my eyes
Watch Jesus rise if he ever did
Flying
"It was disconcerting to see the sun arc in less than a minute
To see a snail race by
My flowers flinging wide their petals to embrace the new day"
I wanna do centuries in a lifetime
And feel it with my hands
Touch the Renaissance and Chaka Khan
Flying
Thank you so much.
20 years later, her voice live sounds even better than the original studio version, some kind of magic going on here
After all this time she is singing even better... My God.
She sang even better here, amazing voice
If I had a time machine.... I would be right there at the front of that gig!

Anneke "Queen of the queens" 🤘🏻🖤_🖤🤘🏻
Absolutely amazing! They aged like fine wine, what a performance!
Music magical, Anneke is a goddess among humans. I’ll always love her work. What band, what a song, what an album, singer, everything.
What a voice!
Wow,still after this years ,one of the best songs!!
Anneke's voice has matured beautifully. She's not only still "got it", she sounds even better now!
And one of the best voice !
This group should have been more popular in the US, but they remained rather unknown. They were great, and Anneke was awesome.

the guitars sound waaaay softer
But I don't really like the hey-hey-hey part 😅
Here we go (mature packages)!
Nothing beats the original authenticity as usual, but they aren't bad versions at all.

This song is one of my favourites, wish there were more quality live versions
