  • This is a perfect moment,... freely talking to a knife making icon and doing it at a knife show! Sal Glesser, the founder of Spyderco, gives us some insight on how an idea is carried from conception, to testing, and a finished product in the rapidly moving knife industry. All the topics covered are too numerous to mention. I did find the talk on EDM (electro discharge manufacturing) particularly interesting. At the Blade Show 2017 we are given some great info on the history and future trends on one of the most popular knife companies in the world. I learned so much and took away a better appreciation of how innovative Spyderco continues to be.

Great to see and hear such a passionate and honest man, I am a recent owner of a Spyderco Para 3 and it is a superbly designed ergonomic and versatile blade shape and geometry. Thanks for sharing, subbed your channel. All the best from Scotland. Garry

Sorry to start out with a still image but... you guessed it, I forgot to hit the record button on the camera. But thanks to the mic we got the audio of my question on EDM.

What knife did he have in his pocket? The slim one with the compression lock made from LC200, i can't seem to find that model.

Things were moving fast and Sal was talking to other people close by so I missed some of what he said, sorry.

He never said what it was. Looks like a caly 3.5 with a compression lock and a wire clip. Looks nice to me. I've been searching catalogs, can't find it. Must be a prototype for the lc200 lock.

JC Superstars I know you probably know by now (old video), but that looks like a Kapara and it’s a must have.

All I know is what I have seen on the web. There are videos and articles where people have bought China counterfeit and genuine Spyderco and compared them. I think even Spyderco put some pictures up on their web site. The counterfeits can look good and the differences be subtle.

Spyderco has the worst customer service in the business! Sal seems like a decent guy, but after dealing with their customer service I'd never buy another product from them again.

If I buy a bad knife I will return it to the dealer or just buy another one.I have a ton of knives and never had any problems. What do you need the company's customer service?!

Dan is right. Benchmade customer service hands down is far superior. Examples: no blade replacement for any reason from spyderco to no free pocket clip replacement cant take apart without voiding warranty and on and on. Benchmade has a zero bullshit warranty. ZT is even better with 100 percent satisfaction. I love spyderco and have a para2 in my pocket now. They need to step up customer service. Thats a fact
