I think Arc 7 proves Tappei's ability to experiment and avoid stagnation. I get why people love the tight casts and grounded settings of the first several arcs, and why the changes to Subaru and Rem make people uncomfortable. But I think I would choose to see Tappei use this world to its fullest during Re:zero's run, without regretting leaving parts of his imagination unrealized. I would rather see the story become more bold and ambitious than taper off into predictibility, even if everything isn't as clean and tight knit. I trust the heart of the series to remain the same. Even in a new setting with such vast changes to the cast and story structure, Tappei still captures the heart of his characters and world, and is able to create emotional and impactful moments. I have faith that even if arc 8 doesn't tie up everything perfectly, I will be glad we saw this corner of Tappei's world.

The problem people have with this arc is that it makes ALL of tappei's writing problems far more evident and annoying.
Massive plot armor for literally everyone? present on pretty much every single sub-arc of Arc 7.
Death fake outs and plot convenience to save people to should have died? happens more times in arc 7 than 1-5 combined.
Plot convenience to have Subaru be exactly where he needs for the story to continue? again, happens so much it's obvious, Subaru literally gets TELEPORTED EXACTLY WHERE HE NEEDS TO BE MULTIPLE TIMES, with no explanation as to why he goes where he goes, you're gonna tell me he just so happened to go exactly where Abel was, exactly just when he was betrayed and escaped Vollachia's divine generals for Arc 7 to begin?
Subaru getting nerfed AGAIN just so he can get all of his character development AGAIN? He can't use any of his authorities until the end of Arc 7, and even then he can only use one of them, Return by Dead is nerfed for almost the entire arc, until some characters "permanently die" and then he conveniently gets the ability to go BEFORE his last checkpoint and save everyone and lose nothing.
Subaru dying more than ever, but not being nearly as impacted, he may have literally died thousands of times in Arc 7, yet he barely reacted to it, compared to Arc 6 where like 25 deaths completely broke him, even if he developed mentally in Arc 6 he was not only "reverted" in Arc 7(again) but he conveniently reverted only to be weaker in every area but actually stronger mentally to take 100x the punishmen without any of the response

@@LightVelox I totally agree about most of this stuff, especially about Subaru getting nerfed for the purposes of character development. Like in my opinion, Rem saying what she said to him after the siege nerfed him HARD by destroying his self-image, and that could have forced him to work on a different conception of himself without the need to revert him to an actual child for an insane amount of time.
The fact that being turned into a child also basically gave him a bad case of Alzheimer's also annoyed me a lot because we literally just had Subaru suffering from lost memories and going through a process of rediscovering himself in the previous arc. If Tappei wanted to keep exploring that concept of rebuilding yourself from scratch after losing your memories and being physically nerfed, Rem is RIGHT THERE! She has amnesia, doesn't remember how to use all her powers, and is physically not super capable because her legs are messed up. She already checks all the same boxes as nerfed child Subaru does, so why not just leave that to her and give Subaru a more interesting growth trajectory instead?

What I am really curious about is how will they cover this in the anime, they will either not animate the extra side stories and leave the viewer confused, they will push them out as a series of ova's as a buildup to arc 7 or they will include them in the normal run of the anime.

    • @ybaBeulB
      @ybaBeulB 10 месяцев назад +6

I really don't think that they won't animate side stories. It will just ruin arc 7-8 for a lot of anime onlys if they don't.
My guess is that they will do them either as OVAs before arc 7 or as little miniarcs during the season.
Based on how much work and love went into the making of season 2 (no openings and endings just to prolong the episode), if the studio stays the same then I have full faith that they will properly adapt all needed SS content for these arcs.

@@ybaBeulBi really dont think the side stories were as important as people think to understanding arc 7. i dont really read re zero arc stories and i was able to understand fairly well. most of the moments gain a better appreciation when you have extra context but its entirely optional imo. tappei is really good at integrating side content, and it wouldn’t be side content if he thought it was important enough to include in the main story.
i think part of the reason people think so is because they already had prior knowledge to side content because of how easily accessible it is for us over here. and seeing something you gained extra context for made people think it was more necessary than it was.
theres probably a few examples that were a bit confusing and i wont deny that but i would say like 90% of the shit that happened doesn’t need extra context

I don't know if it's due to me liking arc 7 so much that im actually not understanding the hate it gets or is it simply due to me engaging with a lot and i mean A LOT of discussion regarding this arc's that i think most cristisim is only personal taste with very few criticism that you have already stated in the video, so im gonna share my thoughts on one of them which is the yorna plot lines and the important of her theme of love ( this will be long and full of spoilers)😂
First of all the yorna plot point being seen as nothing but a very not needed formula to add deapth to the story and the world building, and while this is somewhat true ( the part about the world building and such) that couldn't be any further from the truth because yorna love and her relationship with yogard her lover is the living manifestation of Subaru and sattela relationship
Yorna and yougard fall in love with each other 400 years ago however a tragedy strike and yorna was killed, not just that but her body was torned to pices by the wolf people and the mole people which lead to one of the cruelest genocide that the history has ever witness, the king of thrones yougard upon learning about the fate of he's beloved yorna or rather iris demanded everyone in vollachia to kill any werewolf or a mole people or even anyone who looks like them out of grive, and the way they did it? They burned them alive or cut their their limps and display it for everyone to see
He didn't stop there but he cursed he's own lover with a semi immortality curse where every time she dies she will end up being reporn again, yorna lived her life and found strength in this life, she has new name, new life, new desires and also new profunded love that doesn't have anything to do with yougard obsessive love with her ( yeah that man is a huge red flag) yet....he comes back again and her love to him made her so weak that she returned to be iris he's lover rather than yorna the women who loves everyone
" Yorna who used to love everyone is now returning to iris who loved one man and one man only going against everything and everyone, so what will happen to Subaru when he remember sattela? Would he suffer the same fate?" Im honestly a big fan of the Japanese community, not just that they are chiling with this arc with me but also because of their incredible ability to pick up on stuff I didn't notice before and this is one of them
Subaru in the shadow garden is OBSESSED with Sattela, so much so that she becomes all of he's concern, loving sattela and the sins that comes with is basically what creat him inside that dark cold place, and obviously sattela shares the same felling and perhaps even more, however our Subaru have no memories of such a thing, he doesn't know anything like that at all, for him these feelings is something he shouldn't possess, so what will happen if he remembered? What will happen if he knew about who she really is to him?
Either if it was a part of Subaru memories or fragments of he's soul it doesn't matter, because the Natsuki Subaru in the shadow garden is not the Subaru we know, just like how iris who loves only one man is not the yorna we know
Sattela cursed Subaru with a power that will never let him truly die and it's the same for yougard who cursed he's lover out of love ( by the way RBD was described by Minerva as a form of love and that Subaru should be grateful) both sattela and yougard are obsessed with their supposed lover enough to curse them in the name of love
Both yorna and Subaru shares a two different personality that is completely different than the other, Subaru in the shadow garden makes sattela he's one and only while our Subaru quote on quote " Loves everyone" iris persona loved yougard and was loyal to him and him only but yorna love and help everyone and doesn't wish harm upon others just like the soft hearted Subaru
Right now yorna is too weak to yougard because while 400 years was enough to make her " forget" even he's face in the moment she saw him and he applied he's power on her yorna immediately remembered everything, as if triggered by the pain in her chest yorna becomes iris once again because she wasn't able to stand against her lover
So the question is " if Subaru remembered, or if he see or gained the memories he had of sattela just like what happened briefly in arc 4 would he do what yorna did? will he do quite the opposite? Or will he find another solution?" No matter what is the answer for that question i think that yorna is one of the most interesting character in arc 7 and her importance is not just for the plot but also her relationship with yougard with how he cursed her in the name of love just like sattela did to Subaru is in amazing foreshadowing for the future plot point between these two

while fair i also feel like this felt like a natural development to push subaru as a character. hes already comfortable with his current friends and relationships so denying that from him feels like the only way to push the stakes and further develop his character. i think thats part of what makes these arcs so interesting, at least imo. the entire series has always been about putting subaru increasingly uncomfortable and foreign situations.
its also partially implied that arc 7 and to an extent arc 8, were added in by tappei and weren’t apart of his initial plan. not really “filler” but could explain why its kind of like the black sheep of the arcs.

Arc 7 is about relying on yourself. As past arcs stated , it's okay to rely on others for support, but there are times when you can only rely on yourself. Subaru was separated from everyone who supported him and was thrown into a land where individual strength is above all else. To survive Subaru had to become more selfish , become more cunning and accept his pride. To accept himself
Everything in arc 7 revolves around strength. Vollakia is built on strength. Every character we met was connected to the idea of strength in some form. And what happened in the end ? Vollakia's never ending pursuit and glorification of strength ended up biting them in the ass with Sphinx abusing their bloodshed to start the great calamity
Now it's up to Subaru to prove that strength isn't an answer to everything. To fight for himself and others
It's a good follow up message to arc 6, that was all about Subaru learning that he's truly someone special and capable

    • @ShadowKoto
      @ShadowKoto 10 месяцев назад +9

Arc 7 is really not about self-reliance. The arc has Subaru relying on other people and getting their help. Case in point, Volume 31 and the Pleiades Battalion. He couldn't do everything alone. Furthermore, self-reliance was Arc 4's theme. The author even said so.
Also, isn't "Great Calamity" the name given to Satella's rampage 400 years ago? The ongoing thing in Vollachia is called the Great Disaster. They're two separate terms.

Great video. The discussions of character dynamics and pacing, as well as the Yorna, Natsumi, Rem, and Todd sections, were well-informed. On the Royal Selection, it's very odd that people ignore its influence and appear to be reverse coping for stuff to happen with it by saying nothing will. Another point that's especially important is that a lot of people aren't factoring in the Web Novel's release window when they think about the arc's pacing. Just as you said, it's probably going to continue like that until the end of time unless the author chooses to take a hiatus and write the Web Novel in advance for a year. The whole side story debacle has its own comment already. While Arc 7 is very "messy" for certain reasons that you've already brushed over, its high points, its characters, and if its impact will land properly, really can make the whole arc (Plus Arc 8) worth reading.

I really enjoy anime that delve into politics. I liked Reincarnated Slime mostly for all of the politicking, and gave Kado a chance for the same reason. These last couple of arcs have me invested in the aftermath- Emilia, the witch-looking half-elf, and her witch-cult-scented knight who pissed off the entire knighthood, with her menagerie of literal demon maids, a part-beastfolk maid, part-beastfolk officer, and the most controversial court mage in history who has deep ties to another witch, deeply involved themselves in the Civil War of an enemy nation in an effort to place the rightful emperor (a.k.a. the one Lugunica recognizes as a potential hostile power) back onto his own throne and dragged a number of other Royal Selection candidates along for the shenanigans. And of course Subaru is currently looking to install not one but two major national leaders at this point - but the amount of controversy Emilia will be picking up from her own nation, while receiving the backing of what has previously been considered a hostile nation, makes the political situation in this world highly tumultuous. No one wants a leader they can't trust, but they're also still reeling from the effects of the demi-human war and are likely not jumping at the chance to start another war by refusing the person backed by another country. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Very little of what gets set up in the arc actually gets resolved within the arc, and it feels like Tappei should have just left arcs 7 and 8 as one big giant arc. I also have a really hard time liking child Subaru. He spends so, so long doing the whole "baby's first case of Alzheimer's" thing, and at a certain point I just want to be able to read the protagonist I've been familiar with.

Good video but there are two points I disagree with. The first is that I think many people are justified with disliking the crossdressing content because of the possibility that it could get into the messy world of gender politics which have been shown over here in the West to always lead to God awful products. It isn't that people are afraid there'll discover something about themselves through seeing Subaru in drag, but rather the fact that this could be a sign that the story will be going downhill and just becoming a left wing propaganda fest. I would rather not see overly left leaning or right leaning story beats brought up in Re:zero. I do think you demonize the people that are put off by the Subaru crossdressing stuff and should try to be more understanding about the worry that Re:zero could collapse just like so many Western shows or movies because of gender politics.
Second point i disagree with is that I think it's completely justifiable to prefer the old Rem to the new Rem, especially with the growing possibility that memories Rem is never coming back. Back in arc 3 it was Rem who was the single person who stood by Subaru when literally everyone else turned him away, which boosted her likability through the roof. So seeing her potentially gone for good and replaced with a Rem who has had no positive interactions and has actively put Subaru in harms way has made her a far less likable character than in arc 3. I personally would have been far more interested in seeing a Rem who still held her love for Subaru also grow in other areas of her character. Basically her becoming independent from Subaru while also being a rock to Subaru and Subaru being a rock to her. Also just another reason that I like Rem is because her interactions with Subaru are more entertaining than compared to Emilia, simply because so many of Emilia's and Subaru's interactions boil down to Emilia being confused by Subaru's words and calling him a dunderhead and Subaru saying 'no one says that' followed up by screaming 'EMT!'
Sorry if i'm rambling and not trying to be a hater but it's just these two points really bothered me.

Re zero is a story made in the east, it shouldnt have to abide nor are people in the west fully justified in disliling the crossdressing. Western readers should expect things like this to happen when reading literature from a vastly different culture such as eastern literature.
Also, i dont think one or two instances or crossdressing means itll be delving into real world politics, because that'd be a stretch. Its like seeing an instance of discrimination in a story like this and thinking it means itll devolve to soapboxing.
Basically, Re zero's potential political references shouldnt be compared to western politics in that kind of manner

Like, Emilia did in the recent arc's, Garfild in doing right now and Otto's did as well and because of that i don't see a problem with Rem starting to discovery who she is again. To Subaru case the stakes are aways or lose everything, lose a little or win everything and learning something out of it as a person soo.. it get strange when some part of the fandom don't get why the stakes are for Subaru himself and how this will effect other people more than the girl that like him is not the same now.

I occasionally think about how Kishimoto was going to explore the other countries with more missions before the chuunin exams but then got rushed by his editor to skip straight to the exams. For Tappei to take us out of Lugunica is such a relief, especially with Kishimoto's editor in mind.

I can understand that it doesn't feel like she's her own character, but I love the way that she's being used to push other characters to develop, and I personally don't see that as a bad thing. Given how many mysteries there are surrounding Louis so far, I think it's safe to say that her character conclusion is still quite far away, and it's my opinion that her contributions in arc 7 are merely setup for what's to come regarding her own character, and not just other's.

it’s really weekly reader syndrome, even tho its not weekly lmao. also just the shift in themes, characters, and narrative changes tappei did.
for some context, arc 6 wn was on hiatus for a pretty damn long time. it was very slowly updating from before SEASON ONE of the anime aired, and finally started up again after season 2 ENDED. thats a 5 years difference. basically, most people coming off of season 2 were able to binge up everything up to that point. and because it was left off at the climax of arc 6, every chapter was incredible. reading this with the community as the chapters released was absolutely one of my favorite moments in this community. everyone losing their shit to tappei suddenly updating more than he ever did in the past 5 years (2 and a half years technically for us english speakers, since the translation caught up in 2018) was incredible. it literally happened out of nowhere, tappei was throwing chapters out every day.
but then arc 7 started up and tappei did his classic build-up he always does. people were impatient about rem… complaining about subarus defective gate as the chapters continued. kept asking questions when they would obviously be answered later or getting mad at things that were being teased for later. it was so annoying to see everyone switch up like that.
also people’s misconception that you needed to read side stories… as someone who read the side content after basically finishing arc 7, i can safely say thats a bunch of bullshit. tappei literally goes out of his way to explain the lore you need to understand whats going on. the information also isnt “needed” its just nice to know more about character motivation and stuff but its not necessary to get whats happening. oh, vincent and Priscilla have a weird relationship? okay i guess. theres a spell that resurrects people? alright easy to understand. someone tried to assassinate vincent a year ago? it’s genuinely not needed at all, but it does help i wont lie. i don’t think tappei is as stupid as people think he is… he very obviously is writing around the side stories. and some side stories do have “vital” lore but it turns out that extra lore is just introduced anyway somewhere way further down the line.
this will affect the anime, i was only able to understand shit because tappei would have a paragraph giving a small summary of what info i needed to know from whatever side story content was being introduced. thats why i was able to understand what was going on. but like 80% of the conflict and major plot points in arc 7 was completely original content. anything subaru or remake related usually didnt need knowledge of side stories. if they adapt any ex novel, i think the only one they really need to do is ex5. arakiya, vincent, priscillia, als time on gladiator island, and just a general understanding of the volachian royalty being included would be more than enough to help people be a little less lost.

I agree that him slipping into the natsumi persona was mostly because Natsuki Subaru as an Identity was failing him, and he wanted to embody somebody else who could be strong.
Idk about the reasoning though. Is it really because the women in his life are strong? Or is it just because this is the easiest way to not be Natsuki Subaru? I think Subaru just has identity issues period. He started doing the makeup/cross dressing thing as an art when he was a kid, so ultimately the people he meets here don't have much of an effect on that choice.
I'm sure there's probably a lot of transphobia around Natsumi. Most of what i saw was people just upset that this gimmick was going on this long.
Subaru isn't trans, so it could be a little difficult to understand why this was done for so long ig

      @jumbo_jin5657 10 месяцев назад +6

While I agree that there's a very unnecessary hate towards this I would say that I understand why some fans will get upset with this notion, because I'm one of the people who think that it's only self insert desires to make Subaru relatable to them and nothing more
The complexity that comes with Natsumi was described on one sentence by tappei which is
" Natsumi Schwartz was the perfect manifestation of everything Subaru wanted to be" this line is actually what started all of this mess however I think it's extremely understandable when we think about Subaru thought of himself as a man and how he thinks that he's not a " man enough" and will never be, in fact we get a chapter in arc 7 under the same name " it's hard being a man" and knowing Japan then hell yeah it's pretty freaking hard
Subaru was never interested in make up or cross dressing at a very young age, and why would he? It wasn't among he's interest and there was no reason for him to do that, however what stuck in Subaru mind was that single memory of when he was in the kindgarden and all the children were playing with him because he looked like in adorable gir, when Subaru know about that he rushed to he's mother and start crying
Subaru didn't start to use make up and thinking about cross dressing until he started to hit dark bottom and nothing he did caused people to pay any attention to him, he can't be he's father son nether can he be the funny clown that makes everyone laugh because at the end everyone abandoned him, Subaru was desperate to be something or someone.... however he's ideal couldn't shape itself to take the form of a man
Men are masculine, cool, collective, strong and independent, that's how Subaru sees how a man should be, if we go back again in season one some even described Subaru thought on what a " man" and a " women" or how they should be as a toxic masculinity, he's ideal is basically he's father and then Wilhelm both of them are strong individuals however Subaru doesn't see himself equal to them
They are handsome and so is the men around him, all of them are gorgeous yet Subaru is nothing to them, all of them are strong physical but Subaru is not, all of them are a capable individuals but Subaru is not, Natsumi is the manifestation of Subaru deepest desires yet it's also the manifestation of all of he's insecurities combined, put make up to look more beautiful because he can't do that as a man ( men don't wear make up to look prettier Reinhart and Julius doesn't and they are still quite handsome, if they didn't do it then how could he? ) men doesn't need to act strong they should be strong, they don't act confident they should be confident, Subaru in a way feel like he's a pathetic excuse of a man, he's insecurities as a man is basically what created Natsumi
However I agree that Subaru is somewhat a feminine boy, in sloth IF the master Subaru was working with said that Subaru was in odd case among the male workers that he had before and that's why Subaru was capable of getting along with the famle workers and they were quite fond of him too, Subaru unlik all of the tough and show off boys was quite... feminine, he likes making dresses for Beautiful people, he's good at house work and he pretty much show no sign of being ashamed by that ( due to their time period this is extremely weird) so Subaru being a feminine boy who suffer anxiety because he doesn't think that he's a man enough and thus use Natsumi as a mask to hide behind is what my overall thought on this

For me Natsumi and Shotabaru are interesting gimmicks, but they would seem to overstay their welcome, mostly with Shotabaru continuing to this day. The main issue with them imo is that these personas don't allow for Subaru to fully be himself, to make mistakes and grow for himself, and it feels like an almost unnecessary continuation of the types of growth he received in arcs 4 and 6.

Subaru had to accept how people change and you can't put anyone on pedestal including yourself. Which builds on what subaru learned in arc 6 and what it means to be natsuki subaru, I think every arc builds on the previous lessons and themes. I can't wait to see how much subaru grows going forward. Subaru is still learning how to love himself and accept the love around him which is an ongoing process hence why subaru takes steps forward and backward.

I think there are some glaring flaws of the arc but calling it "muh ruined" simply because it looks worse compared to fucking arc 6 (which was an outstanding "season" even by anime standards) is just wrong. I liked Tappei experimenting with new characters and themes. Todd Arakiya Medium Vincent Chisha Ubilk Madelyn were all great characters. I hated how some of them just relies on side stories that are hard to access for EN readers. I hated how Tappei is scared of perma killing some unimportant characters (although this might be a future plot point for subaru) and i didn't like Tappei redeeming Rui. I also like Nu-Rem way more than old Rem and i am looking forward to what Tappei will do with her.
All in all arc 7 was great. I think it is better than arc 5 but worse than 6 and 4. Closer to 4 i think which is a good place for a new "experimental" arc to be in. Of course it might get higher with its conclusion in arc 8 because they are basically one big arc seperated into two.

Regarding Rem in this arc, I can see where this can go very, very badly. Rem was a poster waifu for good reason. Her scenes in arc 3 are just incredibly touching, and she was Subaru's first true ally. Emilia was fond of Subaru and treated him well, but Rem was there for him 100%, and in a series as dark as Re:Zero, as brutal to its main character as it was then (And is now), that really mattered.
Audiences sympathizing with Subaru really felt her loss in Arc 4. As much as I love Re:Zero, as it went from 4 Onwards, I kept thinking "I miss Rem", and the story made sure to remind me. It was also done in a way that made her a goal, a prize. She wasn't slain. This wasn't a fight to avenge her, to honour her memory, it was a fight to get her back. The next two Arcs gradually whittling away at that until finally, at long last, she returns in arc 7. She however is not the Rem we fought for. Being so close, yet so far, naturally stings.
I like new Rem, especially for how she compliments Arc 7 Subaru, and shows his continual growth as a character. But my feels deeply miss old Rem. The story is teasing at what was lost, at what may be regained. If the New Rem never merges with the Old Rem, if all the efforts of getting her memories back are fruitless, then it will be a crushing blow that I fear not even Tappei can write well enough to justify. Tappei knew well enough when he made Rem she would be liked. Maybe not as much as the ideal waifu that holds up to this day, but he knew.
In short. Like Subaru, while I appreciate this is new Rem and will treat her as such, I want old Rem back. My feels can't take much more of this.

This makes it seem like anything goes and therefore it almost impossible for me to be invested in anything, as I figure that some new deus ex machina magical thing will come to save (or ruin) the day....
In summery it just tries to change too much, too quickly.

No front, but I personally don't have a issue with Felix cross dressing or what ever. It just feels somewhat weird/ unnatural to get a plot line where suberu crossdresses.
The gender roles in this story are never clearly addressed to the reader and thus this being the only time it's being touched upon (even if it's just tangentially) it just comes off as unnatural.
Sure you could argue that we got some sort of hint st it with Felix who tries to dress in order to compensate for krush's need to be overly Manly.
But that just reinforces the normal gender roles we have here as well?
And Felix is a exception in this story.
If the author actually gave me a worldview that I could consider and see as understable it wouldn't feel awkward.
I think that even the dynamic between krush and Felix is left fairly unexplored.
To then have crossdressing thrown in there feels less like it's about the story and more that it serves a different purpose. (be it fans service or a political goal /statement)

Asa was incorrect. I would not blame him for misunderstanding this at all, as he has not been able to familiarize himself with how the short stories are released. That being said...
At certain stores, when you purchase a Re:Zero volume, you'll get one of three side stories in a small 5-7 page booklet alongside it. You have to buy the volume three times at three separate stores to get all of them.

How do I know Arc 7 was good? Because it made me uncomfy and that’s what Re: Zero does best. At this point there’s a bit of a safety to Subaru. He’s got all his friends who love him, he’s got about as much credibility as one can ask for. Those are the two things Subaru has been able to build and save since he got to the new world.
So how do we mix it up? Subaru gets plunged into darkness sent out into a completely new area with a girl he absolutely hates and a now reawakened face of a girl he deeply loves and has been the face he has drawn the most inspiration from, now knows nothing of it and could care less because he has death smell miasma and murderous intent for a random child that she doesn’t know stole her name and memories.
Subaru cannot reveal his real feelings to explain his actions because it would be way too much and Rem would not believe him and this starts a divide immediately. Then it’s just uncomfortable all over again. Subaru needs to reestablished himself in an entirely new area with new people while having to confront the very face that pushed him to get to where he was in the first place but now doesn’t see him as that person.
Most of arc 7 I was just really in my feels for Subaru. He’s already done so much to be the person he is to earn all the friends and credibility he deserved. Taken away and then has to get kicked down by Rem the person who inspired him most and he basically has to rethink what being a hero means to himself and to others . The pain and heart wrenching events that Subaru has to go through in this arc all makes it worth it in true Re: Zero fashion when the payoffs start to come.
Subaru gains a huge following and is able to overcome being an entirely new presence in a new place. A No one basically becomes the biggest X factor to solving the issues in Vollachia. This is more so for later but we are getting more and more details into Rems true feelings. The people who said Rem only loved the fake personality hero version of Subaru were always wrong and this arc just proved that point forward. Even without memories or admitting “he isn’t a hero” while seeing him once again fail and be at his lowest point in the arc or by not having an inferiority complex built from her past. She still is developing deep feelings for Subaru because the thing she liked most about his true nature was his unwavering ability to fight and try his hardest despite being heavily flawed and “weak” but she is now a Tsundere due to still not understanding the world around her or what her feelings actually mean yet.
That’s what we start to get going into arc 8 which has been amazing so far. Arc 7 was just setting up, arc 8 is going to be the payoffs for his efforts and we will see how the plots end by the time we are finished with arc 8. I will say the only thing I’m not enjoying as much is too many new characters coming in too fast and now it’s a free for all everywhere with many many different perspectives.

It's completely different and there's so much going on, most of the time I had completely forgotten about most of the characters from the previous arcs. I can't wait to see some of these scenes animated! I'm really excited to see Olbart on the rooftop and and how they work with some of the more brutal deaths! I didn't get any sort of "woke" vibes whatsoever from Subaru's crossdressing. I haven't watched any Hollywood shows or movies in recent years because of the politics. The development was very well done imo. Him as a child on gladiator island was also great! I loved the way he went about solving problems vs. older Subaru but I agree that the trope seems a bit too long at this point.

NGL watching this made me dissapointed as an anime fan. If you are telling me the story is going to keep spinning it wheels and resolve nothing while just adding new stuff for ever then i've lost interest :c

We definitely do learn more and get answers, but it happens rather slowly. The author has stated that there are essentially 3 big mysteries, and we generally think we'll get the answers to those in the final arc. But we still definitely get answers to some mysteries. We also get lots (like, A LOT) of good character moments and development throughout 5 and 6 (and I'd say 7 and 8) that it's more than worthwhile to stick with Re: Zero. Let the ride carry you

im an anime only who just got BACK into re zero after all this time because i realized how heavily i slept on this series, and i have read through all the if stories, just not arcs 5 and 6. To me it sounds like a bigger version of what TurtleMe did for TBATE's volumes 6 and 7, which was the war arc. in the middle of a battle of a plot developing series of chapters, he uses a random POV from an opposing soldier in order to portray how horrific the war is and to shed light on the grayscale spectrum of decisions that happen during a war.
im a little curious though, i know that in arc 6, he gets amnesia during the tower trials, and the gluttony IF story almost happens (best IF story to me), but does he actually never get his memories back? again i havent read through arcs 5 and 6 and im fine with spoilers. i also thought that rem coming back meant that the archbishop of gluttony was defeated, however rem still doesnt have her memories? was it because theres 3 archbishops that represent gluttony and the cast killed only one of them? also does crusch actually die?

The worst thing about this arc is that there's too many things that happen within the story that can only be fully understood by reading the side stories, and this is not so bad when you do it in written form, but if they ever get to adapt this arc into the anime, it's going to be an absolute nightmare to do it in a cohesive way, without letting it devolve into a narrative mess.

Of course, it's just my own personal opinion, and I really hope that when this gets finally animated, it won't become a Tate no yuusha S2 fiasco
