Ahhh, Dickey Betts. Magnificence. Edit: RIP to Dickey Betts, may you rest in peace, unless you run into Hendrix, Duane and many other guitar gods who have left us. Then you can just jam for eternity….lol. This is one of my all time favourite guitar solos.😊
R.i.p.the fantasic Dangerous Dan Toler
I am totally impressed with technology that gives me the opportunity to see video's that I never knew existed. My brother and sister were stuck with me while our parents were out of town. They had tickets for the allman brothers concert at the fillmore east in '69 and ended up buying one more. My very first concert at 15. I did not know that I was being introduced to HISTORY in the making-----
Very, very jealous 😀
I love Dickey Betts everything and I love Gregg Allman everything and together they are electric.
So happy to have witnessed this lineup a few times 😊🔥🔥🔥🔥🍑🍄✌️❤️😎
Very jealous.
Yep, Dan toler is as smooth as one can be on the 6 string.
There is no better musical sound than an overdriven Hammond B3 through a Leslie wound up at full speed.
Don't think we realized back in those days what we were witnessing. We knew they were good & our $5 & $6 tickets gave us a whole night to enjoy something we will never see again.
This is fantastic footage. Too many times the videographer (It should be a word, yet, it's not), doesn't show us the signals the band gives each other, and a close up of their fingers as they play. Seeing that packs another punch to the video. All of sudden, you are not merely watching a concert, you are on stage! This video has that. I have noticed that for a long time, Gregg will sing his queues. "One more time, now..."
Greg will always be the bad boy of Southern Rock!
And he does it so GOOOOD!
GREGG! He's' not a bad boy...I thought you meant something else...it's not even southern rock...it's blues rock. Nothing southern about it...GREGG okay?
No, that would be duane.
I learned a lot from David. Thanks, Bud.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍
and we start the 80s
...with perhaps the most transcendent 13 seconds of the same note being played (5:35-5:48) in the long history of rock 'n roll.
@@jackdeckenbach I had to go back and see...you're right...but he gives it a whole lot of energy...it's almost funny, though. Wow, how great that you pointed this out. You should do this more often...you have the ears...
Entirely a great performance . And to think this was the lame years
Just doesn't have the same spark without Duane Allman's mellow guitar sound. Still looking for a live version with Duane playing.
Gregg was not a big fan of this bass player !Said he played it like a banjo,, sounds like he was right LOL
Sadly, this was right after things began to go downhill for the Brothers on several fronts. Capricorn Records went bankrupt a few months before this. Dickey was about to fire Jaimoe, Gregg's drinking was spiraling out of control, they were about to sign with Arista Records (disaster), and their music was out of style for the next several years. No wonder they broke up two years almost to the day after this performance took place.
life's a bitch
@@martyprivette3605 Wow, you used to play bass for Dickey Betts in 1987-1988. I met you at one of Dickey's concerts at Summer's On The Beach in Fort Lauderdale, and you were really nice to me. Love your work on Pattern Disruptive!
Stevie Ray Vaughn had a significant role in bringing The Allman Bros back together towards the end of the 80’s - even Dickey Betts said
SRV was instrumental (pun intended) in getting The Blues back in style , and he was right
Berry Oakley rolling over in his grave cause Goldflies butchered the bass line so bad.
Don't think it's his playing som much as using an Alembic bass. Completely wrong sound for this kind of music IMO.
I agree about the Alembic, totally wrong tone for this, playing 10000 notes a minute didn't help his case either.... I know Gregg hated playing with Goldflies, he mentioned in several interviews that he always wondered if Goldflies thought he was getting paid by the note. Kind of like J. Neel, dont get me wrong i'm a huge Johnny Neel fan, but he often overplayed...
He had the treble turned up too high. Missing that deep bass tone this tune must have.
Poor Berry has rolled over in his grave too many times throughout the years....Mr. Goldflies is even out of tune. I have a new respect for Betts though...Gregg is about to nod out on the organ, and Goldflies cannot be reached...he is off in his own untuned land, and Betts saves the show. This is from a CD that was previously unreleased. Scorsese (Martin, of the Apocalypse When is it going to be done NOW movie), made a compilation in volumes of his favorite blues bands. This was a song off of that CD...which, in Los Angeles is selling for 150 big ones. This isn't so bad...see Stormy Monday from this concert. Gregg falls asleep on the organ....but, he still pulls it off, charismatic and blue as can be...only HE an get away with it. But again, Betts worked for his money that night.
@@Gordonsmusic911 maybe, but it is out of tune...c'mon.
Right?
Greg sounds like his voice is locked, and he’s searching for the key.
I think he partied (seriously) with Belushi that night. I told Gregg that this is never a good idea....you can see why.
@@judygirl3102 Yea he does look and sound a little rough thank goodness he finally got clean in the 90s
@@sharonstark1014 and, this is his song...see Statesboro blues from the same night, same place, same concert...he must have sung that song 1000 times by then, but it is after this song...and he is higher...he forgets the words and when he starts to fall asleep or nod out on the B3, Betts turns it up and takes over until Gregg can get his bearings. That is why he is standing up...not because he is so energetic...he is looking at the chords....Oh well...his bad is every body else's best. He put himself together and had many sober years...
My least favorite era, but it’s still good, haha
