    This was so helpful, you don't even understand. I wanted to become a vet as young as 11- 12, I would spend days watch Ranchvet (another youtube channel) and as a child, I only really watched the animal plant and national geographic channel, I was so convinced that I was going to be a vet of some sort. But freshman year of high school I started losing my vision, and became very sad because life happens; I still wanted to do it but I felt, I couldn't. Now I'm in senior year, kind of "scrambling" to figure my plans as of college out. Each college I look at I make sure to look to see if they have Veterinarian studies, but I still feel that "I don't think I can do" in me. This video (believe it or not) gave me hope. Thank you for sharing your story, and I hope you are well!

      Hey! I'm a final-year veterinary student about 4 months away from qualifying and becoming a real vet! I just wanted to say that I also remember feeling like I wasn't capable of doing this degree, and that everyone else seemed way smarter and more competent than me. The self-doubt was so strong that I hesitated applying to vet school until the very last day that applications were due, and I was ready to chicken out when my mom told me just to submit the application and see what happens. I'm so glad I just went through with it and applied, because I ended up being accepted! 6 years down the line, and I've almost graduated. You definitely can do it! Vet school is long and involves lots of hard work, but if you're ready to apply yourself, then there's no reason why you can't get through it. Good luck!!

    Have you considered doing stand- alone videos where you discuss extreme spine surgery cases? They do not necessarily have to be ones you’ve participated in. I have seen some, and they may be graphic, but they yield drastic results. Maybe 1 procedure per video; covering some anatomy, symptoms, differentials, images, alternative treatments etc, and how spine surgery corrects the error. Would be interesting to see, thank you!

    You might want to touch on how expensive it is to stay in business in terms of equipment costs and overhead along with the cost of just setting up a veterinary practice from scratch as opposed to buying one which already has clientele. That should prove enlightening to potential future vets. It is more work than most people realize. It is not just about treating animals. You also have to deal with their owners and collect the money. Many people cannot afford the costs, and they can add up fast.

    Hate that some vets make others look bad. Our vet just charged a fee to set up the x-ray machine, $175 fee, and then the $120 to take 1 x-ray (looking for tracheal collapse in my Yorkie) a couple years back we had her get dental cleaning, was quoted only $500, which was less than others ($1000 on average from other vets) then when she went under, they said they need to extract 17 teeth at $135 each tooth, and they already removed 6 before calling... Crazy stuff how some vets ruin it for others. When I had my German Shepherd , I brought her to a different vet (was 15 years prior) and that vet was amazing (they retired now) stuck with the rip off one.
    ** And I am not complaining about the x-ray cost, I am complaining about the fee to set it up... Wtf lol **

      Disclaimer that I am not a veterinarian, only a certified veterinary assistant. That being said:
      Some days are really hard. I love animals, I love caring for them, and my daily goal is to do everything I can to provide the best care for the pets I deal with at work. There are days I see cases of abuse and neglect. I see sick and suffering animals. I see animals on the verge of death after being hit by a car or viciously attacked by another animal. There are unsocialized and aggressive animals that will (and have!) attack me given the chance if my guard is let down. I witness pets taking their last breath on a (sadly) semi-regular basis ; sometimes it is a peaceful, humane euthanasia, and sometimes it’s…. absolutely horrible and heartbreaking. I’ve been in the field for 11 years now, and sometimes weeks go by without an emergency or euthanasia; and there’s been days with 7+ deaths of some form or another. I don’t mean to be a “Debbie Downer” but these are things a lot of people honestly don’t think about, but they need to be prepared to deal with if they want to work in the veterinary field. The love we have for animals is what makes the bad days so heartbreaking- but the good days so incredibly worthwhile and rewarding.

    Hi I’m 13 I’ve known I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 6. I want to volunteer but non let a 13 year old be around animals without a parent which my parents don’t have time for. I have pages of notes of just research I’ve done online on veterinary medicine. What do u suggest I do to get the time with animals for college and further?

    Hey I randomly found your channel and I'm so glad I did. I'm currently a junior in college at UF and I'm pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine, I recently became interested in doing research. I was wondering if you could make a video about it or find somebody who could into depth about it. Also shes the first colored Veterinarian I've seen!

      You can pursue a duel DVM/PhD. Certain veterinary schools have that as an option. You can also be a DVM and choose to teach in academia which would allow you to pursue research.Good luck!

    Hey Dr. Webb, so I have previously dislocated my right shoulder from getting into a small fight with my brother. I did not seek any physical therapy when it first happened, and my shoulders would pop out every now and then (reaching for pillow, carrying 25lbs plates). It has been 3years and I was wondering if you think getting arthroscopy is worthwhile. It gets EXTREMELY painful when my shoulder does pop out and it is scary when it happens when I am driving. What do you think about arthroscopy?

    Maybe someone can help me out with this
    so I have a 3yr old female boxer, and ever since last Thursday her eyes have been really red and she’s been super lethargic and not drinking a lot of water so I took her to the vet twice and they just said it’s allergies, which I honestly don’t believe because she’s still super lethargic and won’t get up to go outside or anything, and today I tried to get her off the couch by picking her up and she yelped really loud which she hasn’t done at all. And she’s been taking eye drops and pills and if anything she’s getting worse so I honestly don’t know what’s going on.
    Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

      #1) If you don’t trust your current vet you need to find a new one- plain and simple. Would you place your health in the hands of somebody you didn’t trust or believe? I imagine not.
      #2) If your dog is getting worse, they need to be seen by a veterinarian- sooner rather than later.

    My question is How much do u make every year?

    • @Lalabooey
      @Lalabooey 4 года назад +1

      i think vets make around $90,000 a year

    • @carloswaddle89
      @carloswaddle89 3 года назад +1

      Depends, some can make upwards of 200,000 while others make below 100,000. It all comes down to if you decided to go right into practice after veterinary school or if you decided to pursue board certification in specialties such as neurology,cardiology,surgery,opthamology etc. Board certified veterinarians tend to make a whole lot more than non-board certified veterinarians.

      I’m not one for school either, my learning disability really hinders my ability to stay on top of stuff, but if it is truly something you want to do and can’t see yourself doing anything else, I say go for it. If you don’t even try to set yourself for success, youre setting yourself up for failure. Think about back up plans, different careers that are in the same or similar fields
