"Angel Baby" was a 1960 single by Rosie and the Originals. The song was recorded independently on a two-track machine in the small farming community of San Marcos CA when lead singer Rosie Hamlin was only 15 years old. Initially unable to find a label willing to distribute the song because of its unpolished sound, the group convinced a San Diego department store to pipe their master through the listening booths in the record department. The response from listeners prompted Highland Records to sign the band and promote the single. Since its release the song has become an oldies standard."
Rosie wrote the lyrics for "Angel Baby" as a poem for her very first boyfriend when she was 14 years old, She was not even given credit for writing it on the 45.
Its "unpolished sound" was/is part of its appeal in an era when most pop recordings were over produced by record producers .
BTW, back then record stores usually had "listening booths" where you could listen to a "45" before purchasing it .

She was the first Latina artist to appear on American Bandstand and was the first Latina inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. She was never able to duplicate the success that she had with "Angel Baby" and, sadly, died at the age of 71 in 2017 due to advanced fibromyalgia.

And I believe she passed away about 4 or 5 years ago. R.I.P. Rosie. A lot of songs of this nature used similar chord progressions just like most pop songs today use the exact same chord progressions. Hello
I’m from Poland so I have 2 sugesttions for U
First is Vader -i am who feasts upon your soul
Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Vader went through several lineup changes over the years, with Wiwczarek as the only constant member. Since 2011, the band has comprised Wiwczarek on guitars and vocals, guitarist Marek "Spider" Pająk, bassist Tomasz "Hal" Halicki, and British drummer James Stewart. Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. It would not be until nine years after forming that they managed to release their debut album The Ultimate Incantation (1992); Vader has released eleven more studio albums since then. The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series. Lyrical themes include stories by H. P. Lovecraft, World War II, and horror. According to Billboard magazine, by 2002 Vader sold approximately 500,000 releases around the world.
Second is Acid Drinkers - blues beat down
Acid Drinkers are a Polish thrash metal band formed in September 1986 in Poznań. Acid Drinkers were formed on 21 September 1986 consisting of Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki (vocals, bass) and Robert "Litza" Friedrich (guitar, vocals). The band's style is thrash metal, with influences of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Acid Drinkers are rated as one of the most important bands in the Polish thrash and heavy metal world.
All the best !!! Listen and Enjoy 🤘🏼

Three weeks ago, you reacted to Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk." The background melody in this song (Angel Baby) sounds a lot like that in Sleep Walk. I think that's why you think you've heard it somewhere before.

Mel, I think you could be thinking of the song Sleepwalk by Santo and Johnny. You all reacted to that about 3 weeks ago. I hear that song when I listen to this. I've been listening to this song since my childhood. Keep them coming!❤

I’m 74 when I was 11 years old and by the way, Rosie is dead. She passed away sometime. The music takes me back to the time things were slower and simpler life was more laid-back.
    Good old days

High school prom, lights turned down low, & a bunch of awkward teenage couples trying to slow dance without stepping on each other's feet. That's this song, up & down.

I suggest some Neil Sadaka from the 70s. I think you will enjoy. Also try Neil Diamond, there's a rabbit hole. I would start with I am(I said). Powerful

    💕 H A P P Y N E W Y E A R !!! 2 0 2 2 💕⭐️ WOW! How interesting to find out from fellow Squad members about Rosie and The Originals backstory! ⭐️ I have always loved this song, but thought it was a remake in the late 70’s or early 80’ when cursing was popular!! ⭐️
    ❤️ 🥰❤️ S and M SQUAD IS THE BEST!!! ❤️🥰❤️

I swear, for over 60 years I've thought this was a man singing. I heard it lots on the radio since I was 7 years old but don'trememberever hearing her name or seeing her face. Her voice sounded so much like the male falsetto voices that were popular during the 50s through early 60s that I couldn't tell she was female.
