Dayum. The last time I remember installing drivers pre windows setup, was back in '95. I'd have to break out the old cd/dvd external drive again...that's if I can remember where I threw it away

We've been trying to do something like this for ages. I've seen it in theory but I needed to do it myself to verify and it turns out my prediction of Random R/W would be pretty average with the AMD chipset based RAID
I'm using a 9700k CPU which as far as I know, only supports PCIE gen 3 speeds. If I used this card in a x16 slot, am I able to achieve PCIE gen 4 speeds? I looked online but couldn't find this information.
I own 2 NVMe 4.0 to mount and I would like to take advantage of PCI 4.0 in raid mode.can I do it with a MOBO like Gigabyte B550 Vison D with 2 Nvme M.2 slots, one 4.0 and one 3.0? Or I need to get a X570 with all two slots 4.0?

I literally installed this today. I was going to get the 8tb gen 4 drives but there was amazing deal on crucial gen 3 and gen 4 4TB drives. Maybe I should have bought more of the gen 4 ones but honestly 3.5gbps is more than enough for what I need which is SD/1080P/4K video editing.
Gen 3 is ancient now. Gen 5 drives are starting to launch.
I bought two of them! 3 TB and counting!
I'll just wait until Sabrent release their Rocket 4TB Pcie 4.0

How do these NVMe/SSD expansion card setups actually fare if used as plain fast general storage drives? I have too much SATA externals and am looking to "shrink" hardware space used...once I win the lottery or something and get the money for it.
Yeah pretty decently. You will still need an HEDT motherboard that supports bifurcation though

What if you put 4 2TBs
So I will admit I don't know much about RAID 0/1 stuff, but I was thinking about getting something like this to eliminate all the other SSD's in my rig and go for an all M.2 drive system. But if I don't want to go RAID because of how complicated it looks like it is to set up, is a card like this still worth getting?

Year 2000 called and wants hardware raid back. Could you do LVM/MDADM nvme raid 0 and use bcache in optane?

Btrfs and ZFS have a bit more overhead but the results would be similar

No. You need a full length x16 slot. Only the top slot is x16 on Z390. The other issue is Z390 is only PCIe 3.0. You will probably only get about a 3rd of the speed of this setup.

No I didn't. They don't matter. You can run these sabrent drives with no heatsink with minimal throttling. We've already done a video covering this
