Two tornadoes? Multi-vortex tornado appears in Ohio sky

- Footage recorded by Kathy Henry in Bluffton, Ohio, shows two vortexes in a multi-vortex tornado moving across a field. Multi-vortex tornadoes have a main vortex that other (often invisible) vortexes spin around. They don't really merge with themselves or the main vortex, but they do strengthen and weaken on their own as the main tornado strengthens. #tornado #ohio #bluffton
“The video was taken as I was looking out the window of our house,” Henry told Storyful. “There was a tornado watch issued for our county so I was keeping an eye out. I noticed a funnel cloud forming so wanted to video, then a 2nd funnel cloud formed.”
That is NOT 2 tornadoes. That is one multi vortex tornado. Almost a "dead man waking"
It clearly SAYS “multi vortex tornado”🙄
Saw that the first second i saw this short
I said the same thing, that is a deadly tornado
Here's a question for the ages - are multi-vortex tornadoes really as rare as we currently believe them to be? Do we see them captured in film and on photograph so much because their appearance is so striking that more people will risk the chance to capture it? Or could it be that multi-vortex structures are alarmingly common as far as violent tornadoes are concerned? Could most, if not all EF3+ instances be multi-vortex in nature?
It's almost true...
Ah yes, the dead-man walking tornado, very rare, very pretty, very terrifying
Not a dead man, just two tornadoes
@@cerezabay I know, I've been chasing tornadoes for 11 years, I call it a dead-man walking, because that's the results of two tornadoes failing to merge fully
@@America1776.dead man walking is actually a form of multivortex, not two tornadoes failing to merge. Now I really can’t say much about this particular tornado because of how short the video is, but I think it’s a satellite tornado.
Dead Man Walking usually a sign of a powerful tornado forming.
dead man walking is folklore and nothing more
@trashcompactorYT it's a multi fortex sign. Be dumb and be dead. Don't care which
@trashcompactorYT ask the people of Jarrel if that's true or not.
@trashcompactorYT no it's not its a sign of multi cortex
@@sharongay9537 the Jarrell tornado is literally the origin of this folklore lol
As the smaller vortex passes the main vortex you can see its rotation get caught and spun into the main funnel just before that main funnel seems to strengthen.
When the two tornadoes merge together it becomes a much more dangerous and destructible tornado.
That isn't two tornadoes merging, that's one extremely violent tornado with multiple vortices. They call it "Dead Man Walking."
Go look up Dr Leigh Orf's simulation videos on this subject. They're absolutely fascinating.
Kinda like 2 Saiyans fusing? 😂😂
@@ArtForSwansit isn’t always “extremely violent” just because it’s multi-vortex, that tornado looks like an Ef-2 like not every tornado is strong just because of one of natures features
@@ArtForSwansit’s not dead man walking
From what I understand, multi-vortex tornadoes actually encompass most tornadoes full stop, it’s just rare for the subvortices to be so strong and well defined that they create condensation funnels
You would be 100% correct.
I’m pretty sure it’s a satellite tornado, not a multivortex.
Tornadoes scare the hell out of me. 😳
And I live in California and have experience with earthquakes. 😬
Oh apparently tornadoes are starting to appear there as well! Remember the firenados during wildfire season? That was insane.
Earthquakes ain’t shit
I was in Oklahoma with a bunch of guys from California back in 2014, not too long after a bad tornado. They couldn't believe the amount of destruction, and thought I was lying when I told them a tornado did it. They thought the forest had been blown up for construction or something. Tornadoes are nature's most terrifying force.
@@Yourmfdaddyreally? Aside from single earthquake above 7.0 can level massive areas and deal billions of dollars. Tornados are very scary to look at, but in the grand scheme of things, most of them don’t deal tons of damage.
Same here. Earthquakes in WA & CA both...though they can be devastating. I think my fear of tornadoes began with watching the "Wizard of Oz" and a more recent movie, "Twister." 😬😂
Damn nature is scary they literally merged together 😮😮😮😮
That's not all. Just the music this thing produces is incredible
Oh Is a tonado called soy vertasies and if you see it run as fast as you can
The way they merge 💀
I literally have nightmares about several tornadoes coming at me. I'm so glad I wasn't there. I've never been hysterical in my life, but that'd probably do it to me.
As soon as there's a watch issued, you should be making preparations
@angelofknowledge9389 I will. I used to live in TX. Sounds like a train and room on the 1st floor with no windows. 😉 I'm in CT now. Not as many tornadoes here. (Thank goodness!) But that also means I'm not going to be aware of what's happening around me.
I pretty much had dreams where I would see them coming at me. I would be inside a school, camp, or something. Weirdly enough, I have never actually seen a tornado live.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 I have had dreams like that my whole life where I would be in a house (usually) somewhere and can see a tornado (or several) coming at me from a distance and I am freaking out but watching them slowly get closer but they always seem to 'dissipate' right before they should have hit where I was. I have also never seen a tornado IRL...yet. But have been obsessed with them/videos of them all my life and when I was a kid I would tell everyone that I "want to be a tornado chaser when i grow up!" but still have not YET seen one, but i will one day I am determined (im in SE Florida and we do get them here where i live just not often)
Not sure why Ohio is getting tagged by so many this year.
It looks like it's walking
Dead man walking!
Multi vortex tornadoes are called the “dead man walking”
thats why its called a ''dead man tornado''
@@alikikizait’s not a dead man walking
@@user-kc3dc1bg9oit’s not a dead man walking. I actually don’t even think it’s multivortex. + not every single multivortex is dead man walking, only certain ones.
It appears to be 1 tornado getting its act together .
Search we got more than that this year in the month of April tornadoes
*NO BROTHER THAT IS NOT ANY ORDINARY TORNADO, THAT IS THE DEAD MAN WALKING*
I seen 3 next to eachother and then merge into one when I was a kid in northwest Missouri. It was dark out so you could only see them when the lightning would flash.
I've seen tornadoes in different places in TEXAS that are 1 mile wide and have taken photos of tornadoes coming out of the clouds
Wedges.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303awesome
They become very wide usually if there are multiple vortices.
So beautiful two of them
That is a dead man walk. Beautiful
It’s not dead man walking
@@GAND-OZZ That’s a multi vortex tornado. See how it looks like it’s walking? That would classify it as a dead man walking tornado
@@readyainefire9706 for 1, it doesn’t look like a multivortex. Usually you can see a large dirt circle around where the whole tornado is. Also, how far apart the tornadoes started gives you a a taste to how big the tornado actually is and it’s easily quarter-half mile long. That would make it nearly a wedge which is typically correlated with stronger tornadoes, which would make a dirt circle cloud even more obvious. And usually multivortex tornadoes don’t look like two whole tornadoes with great condensation funnels and defined edges, instead they look a little rough and without shape, and the main tornado usually comes down about quarter way before becoming multiple funnels. Instead, I think it’s a satellite coming off from an ef2/ef3 that’s getting sucked back. Dead man walking ‘nados come from multivortexes, not satellites. Therefore, it’s probably not a dead man walking. But hey, it’s a short video and it doesn’t give much information.
Anytime you see a tornado with two or more funnels, rest assured you’re looking at a very fierce wind event…often many times stronger than they look…
I actually think it’s a satellite tornado
Wow...the thinner, more tightly wound vortex "tries" to run past the the larger, then starts to lose structure as the larger vortex appears to "snatch it" by the ankle and swallow it up, immediately expanding and partially breaking structure after absorbing its energy.
One twister swallowed up another
This is what we in Texas call a devils snake . They will strike at you from both directions at the same time. This is the most evil type of tornado
Thought we had a very rare instance of a true satellite tornado but nah, that's definitely multi-vortex as advertised. While true satellite tornadoes aren't as striking and evocative as seeing multiple vortices dancing around, they are quite rare and significant from a meteorological perspective. They're also often mis-identified. I've seen people use "satellite" and "multiple vortex" interchangeably and I've likely been guilty of it in the past.
That's wicked, I would like to see what it did in that one spot.
Yeah for those who might be confused these aren’t two separate tornados the two are from the same tornado
I've dreamed over the past few years of the increasing storms, multi tornados in 1 place and in places that they are very uncommon, I've been seeing a lot pop up lately... kinda freaky
You’ve been watching too many news anchors. We’ve had periods in the past with way more tornadoes that were way more destructive. The only reason you think it’s worse now is because the news has it on blast all day long. Also because the Enhanced Fujita Scale is based on observations of damage to structures and manmade things. There are way more manmade things around to get damaged now, so people perceive it as a worsening of tornadoes because the news tells them that’s what is going on.
It's a Dead Man Walking Tornado 😮
It’s not a dead man walking tornado
@@GAND-OZZ a dead man walking tornado means a multiple vortex tornado that looks like a dead man walking
@@coomik2 yes I know, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t a multi vortex.
They call them “dancing sisters” it’s when more than one funnel develops in close proximity
This happened to my friend Dooley. They were at home and a tornado went right by their house and missed them and they were celebrating but then a second tornado came out of nowhere and got them !!!!
When you see the destruction--

Tornadoes are beautiful creations and scary at the same time
It's the dead man walking. These are the most wicked twisters in the Midwest. You see one . Maybe the last thing you see if you're not in a shelter.
This almost triggered my fight or flight response.
Wow if you look at the bottom left when the smaller tornado goes past the bigger one it looks like it's walking... It actually looks like a man is walking... Crazy...
Ain't going to lie these tornadoes look amazing and beautiful but I would be terrified to be in there path
‘With our powers combined’
There can be only one!
You would think these tornadoes would be a bit more respectful and go around the buildings instead of destroying them! 😢😢
Sorry but that's how nature was made.
You want mother nature to be Respectful humans have destroyed the planet and kill each other we don't deserve respect.
Not two tornadoes. That's one powerful splitting in two before returning back to one.
I am so glad that I am not the only who saw a slight resemblance to the dead man walking in this tornado
That IS two independent tornadoes. It is NOT a multi-vortex tornado.
A tornado’s “fuel” is water vapor.
At the beginning:
The thin one on the left is deposition driven tornado. Its “engine” is high up in the cold part of the cloud/storm. Its “engine” runs on converting water vapor directly to ice, releasing massive amounts of laten heat. They are very strong, but forming so high up diminishes their impact on the ground. They also have weak to no wind magnifying suction.
The thicker one on the right is a condensation tornado. Its “engine” is much lower in the warmer part of the cloud/storm. Its “engine” runs on converting water vapor to water, rain, utilizing condensation nuclei. Massive amounts of laten heat is also released, but less than a deposition driven tornado. Deposition tornadoes tend to be wide and pack a lot of suction, as seen in this video. The suction magnifies the effects of its winds. The suction creates a vacuum above structures already impacted by the tornado’s winds-blowing AND sucking the roof off, so to speak.
Cool video.
Never heard of that distinction before. How can you tell?
@@Fahrenheit4051 They are clearly not of one tornado. They each emanate from separate areas of the storm cloud. i.e. the left tornado is not a suction or eddy vortex emerging from a parent tornado.
The tube nature of the left tornado is the give away that its a deposition driven tornado. Its short lived in this video.
The right tornado has a wedgish-shape. A wedge-shape is the hallmark of a condensation driven tornado. “Wedgish b3cause its not very strong. But the primary give away that it’s a condensation driven tornado is its extreme upward suction. Notice all the soil and debris being pulled up into it. It’s not a very strong tornado wind wise, but its strong suction magnifies its weakish winds.
I have a video of a larger and a bit stronger condensation tornado that sucks a farm building into it from a distance. The winds of the tornado are too weak at the distance to destroy the building, but its strong suction manages to do so.
@@k.chriscaldwell4141 So, I tried looking up the distinction between a condensation tornado and a deposition tornado, and couldn't find anything.
Not saying you're wrong, Google gives me results for legal depositions. Do you have an article or website I could go to?
I will agree that it doesn't look like a traditional multi-vortex tornado, but started either as separate tornadoes or a satellite. The smaller funnel does get pulled in and absorbed into the larger one.
the way i’ve already seen this clip chopped up and reversed with eerie music in the background
Those 2 twisters merged as one
❤ Quel dommage qu'il y aie de la musique sur le film, elle couvre le bruit du mugissement de la tornade ! Sublime vision de la puissance de notre Mère Nature ! 🎉
They look like they’re dancing. 😮
Looks Like They Got Together To Create A Disaster !
Last several seconds it was coming straight at the person filming
Oh! How Scary ! LORD ! Have mercy!
It's one main tornado and 1 satellite Tornado so technically it's two but the satellite name comes from rotating around a tornado or in that vortex.
Great footage of tornadogenisis.
The destruction is devastating. Should homes be built underground?

That’s a realllly fast moving satellite tornado/vortice. It looks on par with the fastest moving tornado ever recorded and it was an also a satellite tornado. If you consider that satellite vortice an actual tornado then it’s definitely a contender for the fastest.
The Pilger tornado that is clocked as the fastest moving tornado was not a satellite tornado. It was a completely separate tornado. That's why it's considered the fastest tornado on record. The fastest satellite tornado or subvortex belongs to the El Reno tornado.
