  • In this video, I take the Model Y on a 250-mile cold weather road trip to see cold weather efficiency after 3-yrs/60K Miles of ownership. We're driving just above freezing (between 32-46 deg F/0-8 deg C) for the entire trip, at an average speed around 65-70 mph.

@@JohnVanDeVoort QQ? When you travel south do you consider stopping at state parks to charge (given there are not many options in Duluth)? Thank you.

@NickRegier, I have stopped in Virginia, MN and Trego, WI to charge at a CCS charger (with the CCS adapter). However, speed is usually slower (~50kWh) at those locations, so I just use them for a little range, but don't stay for a full charge. There is also another CCS charge location at Canal Park, but we haven't stopped there yet. Almost did today just to try it out, but waiting for warmer weather.

I live in MN I'm trying to go up to tower mn for a week and not sure my 2020 model y long range can make it. Keeps saying that I would arrive at chargers with 7% but it didn't determine 4 people with good bags food aka extr weight. No chargers up there

If you’re going through Virginia, there is a ChargePoint L2 and ZEF DC fast charger if you have the CCS adapter. I typically charge to 90% at the Duluth supercharger and arrive with 40-45% in Tower. Have only used Virginia once for curiosity stop. In Tower, you’d need to slow charge with L1 or L2 with your car’s mobile charge cord.

What would you say would be best efficiency for a model Y long range on a 800 mile roadtrip (11 hours) I want to stop every 2 hours for around 10-15 minutes. Will this be possible with a new model y?

Charge it at 20% up to 80% on the supercharger is the most optimal. Driving conditions that we get you 120 to 140 miles range.
