Winter Bank Fishing With An ULTRALIGHT DROP SHOT!

  • I was able to sneak out over my lunch hour to do some bank fishing while we still have open water. The winter transition is in full effect so it won't be long before our lakes are frozen solid. In fact, this small lake has been frozen over once or twice already but has thawed out. I would guess the water at no higher than 36 degrees, yet I was still able to pluck some feisty little perch.
    The micro drop shot is an extremely effective way to maintain bottom contact and target fish which are positioned near the bottom. Yellow Perch are notorious for setting up on the bottom so in this case, that is what I got. That being said, you can absolutely use this rig for other species as well.

    Hi Ethan. I'm a happily retired U.P.S. guy (8 yrs.) and would often toss a travel rig in the back of the big brown truck for lunch break (when I got a lunch) explorations. I was a cover driver for the most part, so never quite knew where I'd be on any given day :) Best of the season to you and yours. Cheers!

    When the water gets too cold the fish around here just want to nibble and don't stay on for long, with the scent they seem to stay on just long enough to set the hook.
    Today I dipped the boot tail of a karma colored Donkey Tail Jr in some Dip-N-Glo chartreuse and got into some slab bluegills!

I've always been too scared to snag lose them from the bank. Of all the jerkbaits you have used what would you say is your favorite for catching fish and minimizing snags from the bank? I value your opinion

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Год назад

      Thank you Daniel! Really appreciate the support. Regarding jerkbaits, I would go for something on the less expensive side and I would avoid anything that dives too deep. The key to success with jerkbaits, though, is proper suspension. I would go for something you aren't scared to lose and then use suspendots or strips to ensure it suspends properly. I have enjoyed the Strike King KVD jerkbaits for about $10 and you can keep them up in the column if needed. Rapala makes a few that have really small lips too so they only dive a couple feet. Might be a good option.

    What size weights do you typically use when dropshotting micro baits

    • @FishAnything

      I pretty much always use a 1/8oz. I think I would use lighter if I could find them easier... Maybe someone will come up with a solution for that one of these days ;)

    Ethan, I need your advice please. I want to fish very thin line PE 0.2 (0.07mm diameter). I want to fish it on a fast action UL. I need a reel. I like Daiwa, but is anything that holds more line than a 1000S (shallow spool) going to be excessive? Will a straight stock 1000 be ok? Would 1000D be too much? Thanks in advance, homeboy!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Год назад +1

      The bulk of my reels are standard 1000 size. I only have one shallow spool. You will absolutely be okay with a standard 1000. Just put some mono backing on there to save you money on the fancier line you choose.

      @@FishAnything ok, Ethan, I have to come clean man. I tried your float fishing with gulp minnows for trout idea and I was the ONLY PERSON all day to catch fish. It was awesome. Thank you so much for the great trout fishing content and advice. You've permanently changed how I chase trout and helped make me a better angler.

    Do you like the spro better than the j-braid

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Год назад

      The Spro is the best braid I have used. It is honestly $30+ for a spool though, so it is pretty pricey. I like the J Braid almost as much, and for the price, it is hard to say no to. Both are my top favorites.

      @Fish Anything I must say Ethan buddy 2022 has been a stellar year for me; for family, for fishing, for a full year at the position I took in August of 2021, no complaints! One of the few regrets about 2022 is I didn't get to travel back to Michigan, and therefore we've yet to fish together. Hopefully, we can check that box off in 2023!🎣

    The rig also allows fish to approach the lure from almost any angle, more than the "normal" drop shot rig

      Hi Ethan , i think the link ruclips.net/video/ZH34L1ZCmMY/видео.html shows what I was referring to. Since it was intended for striper fishing you would need to scale it down but I feel that it would just fine in lakes and rivers .So have a look and let me know what you think.
