Your mind set is old school ! Its not about screwing anyone over . Today's technology. There are zero secrets on any north American lake ! As long as you do your home work . Read your topo maps. Going fishing. Enjoy the people you meet. Enjoy the day ! Have fun. Besafe
I will especially if moneys on the line. I want those fish. I’ll fish my buddies spot while he’s at work and send him pictures of the fish I’m catching. But that’s my buddies and they do it to me too 😂 but fish move, change and never are the same. They’ll never be on the same spot on the same day on the same lure. Ever.
Just seen your video. Absolute great points and discussion on the hard topics. In Casey’s position as a co-angler the boater has to remember that it is boater against boater and co against co. Now the following year I believe it did not set well when he showed up as a boater without a courtesy call or conversation. To your point tho, this is why it is so hard for boaters to open their back seats up for co-anglers who are trying to find practice partners for a tournament. Great channel and keep em coming.
What a tricky situation. I’ve actually been called out for fishing a spot I had been too several years prior. The location was not familiar to me, and we had marked structure and fish and so I was taken there by my boater. Later some questions were asked and I explained the situation, I friend says he’s over it, but we haven’t fished together since.
Treat others as you would treat yourself.......so if someone opens up being confrontational.....on a truly WELL KNOWN community.....you can't let them run you off.
There was tournament etiquette back in the 90’s when I fished but not to this degree. I think these guys forget why they have the fastest boats on the lake. Tournament bass fishing has many elements and one of them is that “ it’s a race” to the fish and in my day that was THE ONLY thing that determines who gets to the spot first. This is why you never rely on one magic honey hole !! Yeah I know things are different now but oh well! Nobody owns the water like you said.
Fate... No matter how many or who fishes what spot. If it's meant to be,it will be. Acting like a prima donna that you "own" a spot on a public lake is Hilarious and childish behavior. No true sportsman alive anymore. Everyone's a selfish ahole with an ego to stroke. It's not a sensitive topic. It's sensitive to the aholes that think they're better than you or everyone else and or deserve a spot because of their own fdup competitive mentality. If you can't compete and maintain a sportsmanship like attitude gtfo. You do the sport no credit or yourself by acting like a petulant child. My father and I went out fishing and always came back telling others where we caught, how we caught them. Tournament or not. Again..fate. Can't tell you how many times we have been behind another boat fishing down a bank..several docks apart and caught fish that they didnt. Caught up to them and they asked what we were using. We told them, ended up they were using the same baits just fishing it to fast. Seeing others smile and get to enjoy a good day of fishing is something we should all want for each other. Not selfishly hoarding it away. Tournament or not. Sharing info makes us all better in the end, because we all learn something. Hell maybe even make a few friends instead of enemies. Some won't like my comment. And I really don't care, cause they're the problem with fishing nowadays. Imo.
So my question is do you save the money bag for the next person because they took you to a spot that they may have been taken to by someone else . Or did you pay your money to win or lose. It is open waters and I respect what your saying , but if it was such a good spot then why didn't your pre-Boater go straight to it . Before you. I mean we're not in this thing and spending our money to help someone else win were trying to provide for our family as well. Like when the two guys in that big tournament was fishing almost Bumping Boats . And one quit and went home . Just throw your real and the best man wins that's it . We can park side by side if it's your day it's your day if it isn't it's no different then like you said if being on the back of the boat . Some is going to catch the fish .
moors is a common spot im a highschool angler from alabama and with a little research i even knew that spot because that boat ramp is there and it has alot of tournaments coming out of it and thats why its so good
If there are two anglers in the boat and they aren't a team... It makes no sense and only brings confusion. Like have wife but she cooks and supports for the family next door. Co-anglers makes no sense ESPECIALLY when livelihood is on the line.
I am the same way as a co. They ask/say if I have a place I'd like to fish and I have to bite my tongue because I travel and prefish for a week with a boater. If anything, I may say the type of stuff I did well pre-fishing, but not any particular place.
I run a local bass club on Okeechobee and fish a couple trails around Florida. I've had 3 co Anglers who each fished with me for a year or better each. All 3 of them now have their own boats and fish the same tournaments that I do. I really dont mind if they come into one of my "honeyholes" that I took them to prior. I wont disclose what exactly I'm throwing or how exactly I'm fishing it though. The way I look at it is, maybe I can watch them do something in there and learn from them even. And I know its cliché but, I dont own the spot. They have just as much right to be in there as I do.
I think if I show u a spot last week yeah stay away, but last year free for all. Common sense but most people are just hard to deal with, that's why coanglers are there to learn and if u fish a lot u will eventually not be able to fish anywhere if u don't go where a boater has taken u.
Good video educating the new comers to the tournament world. Some times people just don't know. I've been there once, learned my lesson pretty quick the hard way, but I simply just didn't know the unwritten rules. I now find my own fish and own my own boat. You stay out of trouble that way haha
Before fishing KBF I was a co angler at the club level and after out fishing my boater the first 2 events he started asking me "what you fishing today" and after telling him he would tie those on.... we started doing real well together fishing the same baits
Nothing shows more stupidity or immaturity when a person claims something PUBLIC is THEIRS.... I do not care how long you have lived there, Used it, known about it, or tried to keep it hidden; PUBLIC is Public. There is no need for me to call Ken... He don't own the spot !!! Again it it Public. Where does he get off on thinking he should get a phone call ??? Now having said that... I fish on one of largest Bass Tourney Lakes in the Midwest and Bass Boaters love to creep in and try to push out Kayak guys or even other (non tourney boaters) all the time when they are in a nice spot and the others are in a Tourney.... again PUBLIC water; get over it.
When I used to fish tournaments, we mostly fished Tuesday night tournaments. My partner and I had found a spot in a small lake that had different weeds and during practice we must have taken 50 bass off of it. We used that spot during the tournament and won. The next time we fished the lake, one of the "better" fisherman who got an earlier blast off went directly to our spot. 'nuff said. I suppose at this point, it was now a community spot...
Again people seem to forget fish do move around.. but hey you guys got all the tech graphs so it really shouldn't be huge deal. Use the graph to find more fish it's not like you fishing a small pond these tournaments be on large lakes & rivers. People need to chill out but it's hard to chill out when it's money on the line and people are fishing to get outta dept or pay house or boat payment.. again I am just bank fisherman.. you know how many times I had kayaker see me fishing and all the lake open but they cruise as close as they can to either ruin my cast or just plan scare fish. And the funny thing is they aren't even fishing they just out kayaking for fun..
I've fished ky and berkley for 40 plus years. I had to fish weekends because of work. Alot of times they were having tournaments that weekend. People fishing would say to me that i was on their spot. I would say, come on over and fish with me ! They would leave.
Well a spot is a spot fish can change, lake Okeechobee is a good example, fish change. Non-boater should just fish and boater just fish. Do not get caught-it sucks but that is just reality.
Last summer I was fishing the shore on the st Lawrence during the tourney in waddington and a guy came up in front of me with his boat I just walked away.
robert jackson I feel ya there. I’ve had boaters show up and cast right on top of me when I’m on the bank. Used to really get to me, but I just walk away now. No reason for me to get riled up over their character flaws.
Chad Grigsby: won a tournament once that I know of during his first run in FLW in a lot of years. Had some real bad luck so he decides to take it to BassElites. ????? Kind of a weird decision. Doesn’t do any good at all in Bass. Goes back to FLW and wins St Claire in huge fashion but the truth is he went a lot of years not winning money and went to Bass. How? What rich person is keeping him going because it’s not on his own merit.
I quit fishing clubs because of this. I spend hours and hours gas money weather you name it for someone to draw me in a tournament. So before tournament i say do not take your buddies to this spot its seceret. We weighed in 21 pounds and got 2nd Next week i go to the lake get to my secret canal and guys coming out with his friend who has a boat. I lost it i threatened both of them. Fucker i told him if he ever draws me again. I will just drop out of the tournament.
The unwritten rule is that as a co-angler you don't take another pro to a spot you pre-fished before the tournament or during a tournament sith other pros/boaters. Now if you pre fished out of your own boat and found fish on your own and know it will help both of you and you take him there, then it's on you and you have given up that spot to him as the co-angler. Do not expect to be able to take your pro there the next day and if the pro you took the previous day is there get upset because you lost that spot once you gave it to him, There will be words between you and your previous days pro and your current days pro. I had this happen on Lake Eufaula, AL in 07 during the FLW Stren Series (Costas now) and my pro was pissed at his previous days co-angler because he was way up the leader board and knew that the other pro was way down and hadn't been there all week.
I fish Bfl Buckeye as a co and I’m in total agreement. There are obvious places that everyone can find but those locations where it took some time studying maps, graphing doing ones homework so to speak on the water finding those hidden hard to find places. I take that information to my grave. If a boater takes me somewhere another boater has and it has happened, I say nothing about it, period!! The true is Fish can be anywhere at anytime but we all know what motivates them, where’s the nearest buffet. I personally have nothing but respect for my fellow anglers boaters and cos alike when I’m in their boat it’s their show I’m a guest and grateful for what I can learn from them. I’ve spent thousands of hours on the water and again this winter I’ll be in my living room flipping jigs into a two inch PVC pipe cap in my kitchen. I’m right handed and learned to flip lefty. I can’t wait for April. REMEMBER MUMS THE WORD.
I think too many anglers are WAY to broad with their interpretation of a SPOT. In the case of Chad and Casey, they were fishing a grass flat, that is not a SPOT. If you have found a small shell bed within a grass flat, that is a SPOT. I also believe that there is a huge difference between returning to a spot or area as a co-angler and returning as a boater fishing against the guy who showed you a particular "spot"
You show me a tournament fisherman who says he doesn't jump spots, or fish from memory....and I'll show you a liar! With most of the people i deal with, fishing etiquette goes overboard when it's 12 o'clock and there is a creepy sound of silence coming from the live well.
Well I'm an asshole naturally so I fish where I want when I want and however I feel is necessary to catch them as long as I'm not breaking the law like snagging and trespassing etc.... but I'll be damned if I'm gonna worry about some dickheads feelings.
I mean i dont tournament fish or co-angler one day im hoping to but i think like if its in the same yr and going back to that boaters spot is one thing but i think if its the following yr i think it should be far game now maybe if your still a co-angler and you take the boater thats now with you that might be wrong but i think if that following yr if you have a boat now i think its just far game now like i said i dont tournament fish so im not sure if its right or wrong just kinda what i think
When you are fishing a tourney thats has co anglers to me thats part of it. If you take them to your best spots at that point its not a sercet anymore. Fish tournment by yourself and no one can say that it was there spot. Thats why i tournment fish and practice by myself. When i fun fish and i take someone with me i always fish new water. If by chance we find a good spot then to me its free for all but as far as taking him to my tourney spot it doesn't happen because i dont want him to fish it so i dont take him to my tourney spots. In casey situation he would have been foolish not to fish that spot because to me its fair game he trying to win also.if you don't want anyone fishing there to dont take them. Fish other tournment where yoy fish by your self. I hope understand what i mean because i write like i talk and it doesnt always come out right.thank you for reading.
If you outfish the guy in the front of the boat that's the way it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really pisses off the boater but it happens sometimes. Respect the other guys fish, that is an unwritten rule. Don't tell somebody about another anglers stuff.
to be truthful i think if a co angler becomes a boater you cant stop them from spots that have fished. chance are they practice on it and confirmed it was a good spot from last year why would anyone in there right mind go away from that spot just because it might upset the other guy. You here to compete and win end of story.
I def Subbed I do my own vids but I want to do for angling so bad . I want to be Co angler since I only have a jon boat with trolling motor and I think I can learn sooooo much from doing it.
If it's a year later. Fish move. The same spot doesn't mean it's gonna be good. The next year, to me is fair, if it's the same tournament, that's different. But a whole year? Come on. That seems excessive.
This is why a boater and co-angler seems like an f’ed up system. If it’s not a team sport, split them up. Also, the arrogance of a lot of boat guys is so off-putting as a kayak angler. I have literally almost been run down by a boat to get a spot I’m currently fishing. Like I’m not there in a 13’ bright orange kayak with 9” graph and 8 rods pointing to the sky.
Guy took me to a spot on guntersville several years ago just fishing, he said I'm gone show u this one spot and that's it ,I think u can take it and run with it u wouldn't believe the spots on that river that set up exactly the same I won several $$ of of that spot and several more and some with him with me and I took him to some of his other spots not even knowing till after ,he said I knew u would figure It out lol
Great video an I hate to keep commenting on this , but the way I see it pros should not be able to fish these damn bfls go to another event or go fish for fun , leave these tourneys for the weekend anglers like I said scrubs
Im a little confused. Is the pro just being a sore loser? He had all the advantages and he didnt catch em. Whos to say he would have caught more weight if he was by himself. Maybe he might have caught less but he stayed in a spot because the coangler started catching. Ive fished the same bait as other people and blew em out of the water. It just wasnt his day. Unless im missing something or the pro is just joking.
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors i hear ya man. I guess being around the winning bag and not being able to catchem is rough. Especially when you could have cashed a big check. Seems like a bit petty to be upset with the co angler. Guess you gotta blame somethin. Tough break,
Y'all should come fish a tournament on the lower Savannah river. There will be 3-4 club tourneys going on the same weekend. 20 boats fishing all the same cuts and creeks. It's going to happen. There is only so much space, not to mention the right types of structure. So why do guys get so bent out of shape? Because they let their ego get in the way. It's almost like hunting public ground. I've seen people almost fist fight because someone is in their spot. It's public land. We all pay to use it.
No one “owns” a spot.... if someone is there when you pull up in the am move on they are there. But if I get there first it’s mine until I pull up the trolling motor. No reason to get mad. A lake is thousands of acres if your a fisherman your homework should have given you 3+ similar to it.
I've had boaters keep trolling while i got hung up and i just had to break my line, I've had a miss understanding on gas money one time and my boater flipped out on me. If i ever get a boat that i would tournament fish in im going were the fish are. Point blank. I don't care if someone showed me a spot or not. I wouldn't get mad if someone was on my spot.
So if a boater gets information from another boater or a local about a "spot" they can fish it and thats not an issue. When a Co angler fishes a spot with a boater that the boater didn't know about in the first place until he got info from someone (not in all cases) but a lot of cases. Its not ok for the Co angler to go back and fish it 1 year later? I think the boater was just salty. They were throwing the same bait on the same flat in the same spots and the non boater smoked him. Oh well it happens get over it. Should have fished with BASS if he wanted to complain about it.
Took the words right outta my mouth with the exception of his point of "going back" that's the point of the video. If it's a shared spot or area then fine. It's just not ethical to be a spot jumper. From either side of the boat. If you find it then by all means have at it. Ex. Past season had spot I found practicing and fished for another tournament when I returned practicing for a state tournament hit it again (no one around) got on'em and left a travel partner also found them and neither was aware of the other. Night before the tournament at dinner overheard him say he was going there. I was like crap so as courtesy to him I didn't fish it. He finished top ten. Probably could have won it and we both probably could have fished it together but I choose not to.
I mean, really? So, if someone fishes a spot no one else is allowed to fish it? Come on. I get it if someone has practiced and way pointed for a week to fish it. But a year later? Get real. And Grigsby is mad cause his co is catching fish? That co pays his money to win also. Is a Co supposed to not catch fish? I mean Grigsby is such a baby. Hope I never have to fish with him. Both anglers are fishing to win. As long as lines aren't crossed and the co isn't casting into the boater I think it's all fair. Just my 2 cents.
I enjoy watching your videos because of the ethics of courtesy and respect for your fellow angler. I'm not a tournament angler, but do practice what you are teaching. I get a lot of "Thanks man".
I have not met a Co. that doesn't go back and fish the places you take them to.I learned one thing, if you don't want other people to know, don't take them there. I have spots that I don't fish unless my family goes. I have gone to places and knew I could be giving up a great place.
Its common curtsy not to spot jump another angler especially if you then fish against them and its some type of "cover" you didn't find yourself. With today's electronics/maps no one can expect to claim a spot on a PUBLIC lake based on "structure" or publicly known "cover". A lake point/flat/drop can be found on a map = public knowledge. If you side scan/down scan and find the same "cover", its all fair game.
Your mind set is old school ! Its not about screwing anyone over .
Today's technology. There are zero secrets on any north American lake ! As long as you do your home work . Read your topo maps. Study the structure! Every lake out there is an open book ! Pre fish. For me ! Is about. The colors there biting and. There patterns. Not secret holes.

Say what!!!? Not me no kastking here

Just a heads up the power pole on your co-angler side is crooked.
looks that way right......just camera angle and how they setup on this boat....everytime in the rear view mirror of my truck I'm like What the
Actually you are 100% correct there my friend...i just readjusted it today prior to my trip
There are no secrets anymore! You better be talking and asking otherwise you'll be left behind!!!
Casey says, i thought i show you how to catch them again. Haaa haaaaa lol. Screw shaun. Lol
Treat others as you would treat yourself.......so if someone opens up being confrontational.....on a truly WELL KNOWN community.....you can't let them run you off.
That spot in front of Moore's is actually one of the biggest community holes on the lake.
This is fairly close to where Morizu Shimizu won the 2008 B.A.S.S event on Kentucky Lake
and see....they make it out like it was all theirs!!! 2 sides and the truth to every story
There was tournament etiquette back in the 90’s when I fished but not to this degree.

Glad you fixed the flag. The crooked port side power pole needs to be fixed next.
Powerpole is camera angle

This has happened to me , but the boater suggest and gave me the same thing he was using and I still only caught one and he culled three lol🤣🤣🤣

Beyond The Bounds I think I even have a video of me fishing an island off of it on my RUclips
Beyond The Bounds but at lake Mitchell I know one of Dustin Connell’s secret spots and that truly is a spot only a hand full of people know about
No matter what nobody owns the lake.
I fish buddy bass tournaments even with us being partners I still want to catch more fish than my partner is all about bragging rights
If there are two anglers in the boat and they aren't a team... It makes no sense and only brings confusion. Like have wife but she cooks and supports for the family next door. Co-anglers makes no sense ESPECIALLY when livelihood is on the line.
Thumbs up to your vid man.

One more thing, you own the boat but that doesn’t mean you are a better FISHERMEN.
Great video learned a lot thanks for sharing your knowledge watching here from Miami FL
I've fished ky and berkley for 40 plus years. I had to fish weekends because of work. Alot of times they were having tournaments that weekend. People fishing would say to me that i was on their spot. I would say, come on over and fish with me ! They would leave.

I struggle with this in a tourney situation...always nice to ask...i didnt do it once and felt like a real jerk...when my head got right.

When I was younger and didnt have anywhere else productive to fish I'd cast right over their boat a couple times
How is the purchase of FLW by the MLF going to affect you? I haven’t really read anything on how any of that is going to work now.
Lower entry fees thats it
Chad Grigsby: won a tournament once that I know of during his first run in FLW in a lot of years.
Sometimes the co angler is the better fisherman.
Brother, God Bless You. I Thank You for honoring our nations flag. Oh, and I love your video's....keep them coming.
If it's a brush pile or smaller point of attraction it's one thing but a large flat is not a spot.
I completely agree. Brush piles in the middle of nowhere is a spot.
knowing "the spot" is only half of the battle
Unfortunately boaters are just as common for stealing spots shown to them by local co’s. Happened to me at a central open this year.
With most of the people i deal with, fishing etiquette goes overboard when it's 12 o'clock and there is a creepy sound of silence coming from the live well.
soooooooooooooooooooo True!
Nobody owns the water!!!!!!!
What happens if a co-angler qualifies but the owner of the boat does not? Do the officials find an open co-angler spot of another boat?
Don’t go back unless you are desperate
Loved the video, but my adhd was killing me tht ur right powerpole wasn’t all the way up
They angle in...kills me when im driving and looking back looks way off!!
Well I'm an asshole naturally so I fish where I want when I want and however I feel is necessary to catch them as long as I'm not breaking the law like snagging and trespassing etc.... but I'll be damned if I'm gonna worry about some dickheads feelings.
Why is my RUclips unsubscribing to your page?
He was just a better fisherman
If you outfish the guy in the front of the boat that's the way it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really pisses off the boater but it happens sometimes. Respect the other guys fish, that is an unwritten rule. Don't tell somebody about another anglers stuff.
Yup.
One of our local lake... there's only a handful of spot. everyone and their momma knows these spots yet each claims it's their own spot. lol.
to be truthful i think if a co angler becomes a boater you cant stop them from spots that have fished. chance are they practice on it and confirmed it was a good spot from last year why would anyone in there right mind go away from that spot just because it might upset the other guy. You here to compete and win end of story.
I def Subbed I do my own vids but I want to do for angling so bad . I want to be Co angler since I only have a jon boat with trolling motor and I think I can learn sooooo much from doing it.
Why is the left power pole left of the motor bent to the right instead of straight. Lol
your port power pole looks crooked
I know right...drives me crazy but it is fine
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors didnt know if it was just me or not
If it's a year later.
Damn right practice matters for the co!
Great video an I hate to keep commenting on this , but the way I see it pros should not be able to fish these damn bfls go to another event or go fish for fun , leave these tourneys for the weekend anglers like I said scrubs
I felt the same when i saw pros in my first BFL. Would like to see them stay ay the tour level.
No way I would fish against a guy on a spot he showed me. Should have ask him before if he planed to fish there. I would only if it’s a huge area
Expectations...not how he wanted it to go...but just how it happens sometimes
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors i hear ya man. I guess being around the winning bag and not being able to catchem is rough. Especially when you could have cashed a big check. Seems like a bit petty to be upset with the co angler. Guess you gotta blame somethin. Tough break,
There’s no such thing is my spot.....everyone knows that spot...stop it..just FISH 🎣 you don’t own the water 💦
Yap that’s why a lot of them fish these bfls they are like one hit wonders man
Gimme them dam spots on the Potomac lou
Hahaha wait and you shall see...just filmed a potomac spots vid
This story/example you presented is why they call it FISHING!
No one “owns” a spot.... if someone is there when you pull up in the am move on they are there. But if I get there first it’s mine until I pull up the trolling motor. No reason to get mad. A lake is thousands of acres if your a fisherman your homework should have given you 3+ similar to it.
I could know all the good spots and still miss darn near every fish lol but still try great videos peace love and happiness!
Thanks Lou, good stuff man !!
That's a bitch move bro find your own fish
This is why they make tasers.
Dang no one owns any spot . Best draw fastest boat gets the spot . The rest can move on . Just my two bits 🤷🏻♂️
Great video!!
I think it's low balling, and then to smart off to the man who showed you that's just sorry for sure;;;;;;;
Good video! I'm going to treat people with a little respect,i hope they show me the same!
As a public body of water the ehole lake is s community hole. It's public
HAHAHA......thats a darn good point!!!
Brutal! 👊🎣🐟
MY FAVORITE COMMENT.......YOU DONT OWN THE WATER BRO SEEMS TO COVER THIS ITS A DOUBLE EDGE SWORD WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH
Cant wait to see Top Dawg BS comments on this
I enjoy watching your videos because of the ethics of courtesy and respect for your fellow angler.
Don’t know the whole story. Who got there first
Its common curtsy not to spot jump another angler especially if you then fish against them and its some type of "cover" you didn't find yourself.
With today's electronics/maps no one can expect to claim a spot on a PUBLIC lake based on "structure" or publicly known "cover".
A lake point/flat/drop can be found on a map = public knowledge. If you side scan/down scan and find the same "cover", its all fair game.
Next time have enough respect to check the correct way to hang an American flag!! The lack of respect you showed is (wow)!!
Triggered loll
Lol lol!!
