  • Glazing is a magical technique that can literally change your painting. I can’t tell you how often I turned my painting around by applying a glaze. A good glaze can add intensity to colors, adjust values, unify, and harmonize your painting. And it is very easy to do. So today, I want to share with you the magic of glazing.

Thanks for the demos. And hearing you talk about struggling in the middle of every painting session was very encouraging!

I struggle quite often. Usually just need to paint on with faith 🤗

Thanks Eric. Perfect timing as I'm playing with glazing atm. Are there some colours that just don't work...ie granulating colours. Bx

That is an amazing idea. I have painting I did years ago that is flat. This should fix that. Thanks!!!

I get the concept. But i have tried this on layers after 2hrs and 24hrs. Every time after i put my first stroke down for my wet on wet glaze my base layer lifts. Does paper or the paint itself matter? (Using water color brushes)

If the layer underneath is very thick already, then yes, you are running into the risk of dissolving the paint. Paper and paint might also matter as well. I use BaoHong cold press paper and Daniel Smith Paint.

That was very interesting Eric. Glazing is useful but needs care. I’ve tried painting my grown up son twice. Both lack transparency. Must try again and remember to glaze rather than be heavy-handed. Thanks.

I certainly understand the fear of applying glaze and wondering if I'll ruin it.
