I started using Black Kow after noticing buyers at Lowe’s buying it over all other products, even tho their other soil products were “bargain barrel” products. I was already using peat for lightness and water mediation. Once I got black kow mixed up with the other soils, it felt right. It sells out early, too. This year, however, the chase is for finding that good Canadian sphagnum peat moss!
      Convoy! Yea, Canada!

      Hi!
I hav been buying peat for yrs and its always been so dry looking and dusty but I assume that's what it looks like right?
Well last night I got some peat at Lowes and got it home opened the back and it was absolutely beautiful! It was coal black! And wasn't full of chips and all that other garbage!
I couldn't even tell the dif in color from my dirt!!
It's the same bag I always get (brand) green bag,
Did I finally hit jack pot? Is this what peat is supposed to look like? Real nice and black?
My regret is there was only one bag!!
Hopefully I will be able to get more of this beautiful black peat!

      @carterj207 2 года назад +3

Oh and just for the record I've always got my peat at walmart, this is the first time I've gotten it at Lowes.
Could that hav been the reason for it being so georgous and black?
I'm trying to hav the perfect garden this year!

This year add more phosphorus. Be careful what you fertilize with. Too much nitrogen will cause them to grow tall and leafy with no fruit. I recommend Bone Meal for the phosphorus (organic). If you prefer something else look at Rock Phosphorus

Great video, Hollis! I added some Black Kow to a new okra bed this spring and it is doing quite well. With all the pots you have to fill, have you tried mixing your soil on a tarp instead of in the wheel barrow? You can at least triple the quantity and lift up the edges of the tarp alternately to mix it. Just a thought...

Nice video,,,,, baby steps. This is just the growing medium, for the plants to take root in. Some,
(very little but balanced nutrients) that all plants need, and good aeration, moisture retention,
even drainage, slightly acidic, and balanced N-P-K. I suspect, what we'll see next is
amendments, for individual plants needs. Different N-P-K's for different plant needs.
Don't know, might be wrong. We'll have to wait and see!!

As i can now no long mix up container soil and seed starting mixes by hsnd, could a new, unused cement mixer be a substitute for the mixing? Provided its still all clump free and the ratoos are still the same?

I use a small mixer to do mine. It holds enough to fill a 5 gal bucket as that is what I grow my veggies in. Perfect for me.
