Rory Gallagher - Do You Read Me (Rock Goes To College, 1979)
    • Rory Gallagher - Do Yo...
Rock Goes To College (RGTC) was a BBC series that ran between 1978 and 1981 on British television. A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance (from Wikipedia).
    Lyrics
Do you read me, well won't you tell me?
If you read me, then please believe me, when I say,
Yes I've been waiting, seems like forever.
I've been waiting, my situation ain't got much better,
Well I've been waiting, the situation don't get much better.
You don't do unto others as you do unto me,
Well, why am I the only one that treats you this way?
Well, you got that something and it's hard to specify,
I can't diagnose that look in your eyes.
You don't do unto me, like I know you could,
Why am I the only one who's misunderstood?
Ashes to ashes, and it's dust to dust,
Well, if you won't take me then I guess the devil must.
I've been hurting, my hearts been burning,
I've been hurting, but I've been learning, just the same.
Well, I've been waiting, seems like forever,
    While I've been waiting,
My situation ain't got much better,
    While I've been waiting,
The situation ain't got much better,
    I've been waiting,
The situation don't get much better.
Recorded live at Middlesex Polytechnic, UK, January 27, 1979.
Hey there, You Wolfaholics! So... once again, I am bringing You the Late, Great Rory Gallagher doing a "Live" version of his original tune, "Do You Read Me" , off of his 1976 "Calling Card" L.P.; I know that You haven't done but one or Two reactions to this amazing artist, But.. he was just "SO" influential to everyone in the Blues/Rock genre & I always made it a point of doing covers of his stuff in every band that I have ever played in. His signature, beat up looking 1961 fender stratocaster, (which he bought on credit in 1963 at crowley's music store in Cork, Ireland), rivals stevie Ray Vaughan's trademark SRV fave &,,, guys like this, Stevie ray & jeff healey need to be remembered for just how incredibly awesome that they were. (According to legend, this was the very 1st stratocaster to ever reach ireland, & during a talk show interview, jimi hendrix once was asked what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world. He responded with “I don’t know, you will have to ask Rory Gallagher”.) Anyway, soak this in ... & appreciate rory's talent & stage presence. He was always all about the music. In an industry where a lot of other musicians "Sold Out" to appease record industry standards, rory never did. Enjoy! Later, Jonah

I saw Rory live at Aberdeen Music Hall, Scotland in 1977. To this day still one of the best concerts I have ever seen. He and his band played for 2 plus hours, no support band. no fancy stage theatrics, just him and pure talent. He was explosive on guitar and the trio were so tight

the most underrated guitarist in history, rory was a genius unfortunately he is not appreciated at least he is not talked about as much as he should be besides being a phenomenal guitarist he had an incredible voice, on stage he was an animal it was on stage that he it was in its natural habitat, he put on the guitar and entered the stage and it was already known that it was going to be a show from another world.
I heard Rory for the first time when I was 12 my older brother bought four of his cds TATTOO, CALLING CARD, TOP PRIORITY and IRISH TOUR and my brother put the TOP PRIORITY album first and the first song is FOLLOW ME and when it arrived the second song by PHILBY i was blown away by what i was listening to from then on my brother bought everything from rory and now i have everything from him too

I don’t think he was underrated as much as he was unknown. My father in law who’s like 65 grew up
On Johnny winter, BB king, Clapton, the Beatles, all the great bands from this time. And never even knew who Rory was. Hell I wouldn’t know of him if it weren’t for RUclips and me watching SRV and Johnny winter videos. Rory’s probably my favorite guitarist ever

Thanks for another Rory reaction! Yes, Rory was all about the feeling, but he was also an incredibly clean player and his lack of special effects didn't allow for sloppy playing. He devised all sorts of tricks just using his hands and the guitar, including pulling on the strings, bending behind the nut, and using the tone pot for effects. Please do check out more of his astounding performances. Any of the Rockpalast videos are amazing, as is anything from the Irish Tour.

You won't see him on lists of the top 20 guitarists of all time but if you ask those top 20 guitarists of all time how good Rory was you will know he was up there with the best of them. Not only an exceptional guitarist but a man who love d to perform. He would regularly do 2-3 hour concerts and you could see he was loving every minute of it.

From what I've read, Rory's brother met with Joe before the show and brought the guitar so they decided to do a song with it. Joe said he was a bit nervous playing it since it had been sitting around for over a decade (since Rory's death). It's worth a listen for the history alone. Cheers.

      @julienmarquet8612 8 месяцев назад

😂Only, because, Jimi was too humble to say he was the best, he was a little bit jaleous about Jimmy Page, or Dave Gilmour, and Clapton was his friendxand rival😂Rory is the best with a slide guitar....A fantastic singer, bluesman, guitarist, but, seriously, he's like Gary Moore, Steve ray Vaughan, Van Halen, and so much others: after 2 songs, you realize they're always playing exactly the same😂So calm down OK....I like Rory....But, he never reached the level of Jimi Hendrix, Page, etc....

Jimi Hendrix actually said that about Terry Kath - Chicago’s original guitar player and founding member.

While I have heard about Terry Kath named I have also heard Gallagher mentioned, most likely because Hendrix apparently mentioned different guitarists at different times when asked that question.

The Stones seriously wanted him to replace Mick Taylor in the band, that’s how much they loved his playing. But It wouldn’t have worked. Ronnie Wood was a better fit. More Stonesy.
