    I switched to unleaded for my Suzuki GT550B in 1989 after the bike was listed as being OK to run unleaded, figuring that on a bike that did 9 MPG in town and 18 MPG on the open road, I'd save money on petrol..... Bull!! It holed pistons about once a week in one of the 3 cylinders. Once I started the bike and left it on tickover whilst I closed the garage door. In those 15 seconds it managed to pre-ignite on one pot and blew a hole so big in the piston that it looked like a blowtorch had been used. I went back to 4 star leaded after the dealer told that it was the unlead that was the cause of the problem (after he'd sold me thev 6th piston and gasket set. Apparently his concience was troubling him as he'd already figured that I was using unleaded.

    I still run leaded in my mid 90’s motorcycle, it doesnt need it but runs a lot cleaner and smoother in delivery of power.

    Well how much does fuel now cost in Britain? In Canada it is 0.60 a litre where I live.

    Yes I agree that research into making cars more friendly to human health isn't a bad thing but 'Lead is poisonous, let's get rid of it!' isn't research, it's simply an attack on that material. It seems rare these days to hear anyone talk about how leaded fuel is still the best for octane level; seeing as there is no better alternative why isn't research going on to see if lead can be reacted with something to remove it from the atmosphere; adaption is better than prevention.

    Leaded petrol is like ROCKET FUEL compared to the current unleaded. Flying cars with that crazy juice

      I can buy VP110 leaded fuel at the gas station down the street and sunoco still sells 98~110 octane leaded race fuel in cans.

    We had unleaded in the States since 1975 due to catalytic converters.

    you can't dany that cars have a negative effect on our health... don't get me wrong, I get all freaky about cars aswell, but I think a bit of research in favor of making the car more health and evironmently friendly isn't wrong at all.
    Excuse any spelling or grammar mistakes, I am from Austria and english is not my original language.
    Just my two cents...

    @Astrosisphere Talking to him directly would only provoke him even more. This user has used literally over 15 accounts to spam my videos and inbox, and had done this exact same thing to my other channel subscribers. I have called RUclips Security and they said they have permanently removed the user purpleforestwolf from the site. This guy was probably violated by one or both of his parents when he was young, and simply wants attention on the internet.

    You can, but you shouldn't. Engines that require leaded truly NEED leaded. The lead acts as lubricant for the seals in those engines (because of the materials the seals are made of) Of course, you could run unleaded in an engine that requires leaded- it just wouldn't be too good for your engine.

      Sort of. Tetraethyllead was added to petrol to make the fuel much more resistant to combustion by compression. This prevented engines from pre-ignition on the compression stroke, since the fuel couldn't withstand the compression and combusted (which is _NOT_ when combustion is meant to occur.) The TEL also protected the exhaust valves from valve recession.

    Old 4 star was about 98 ron octane , so modern unleaded will make you go just as fast as the old 4 star

    • @jamestorrens645
      @jamestorrens645 3 года назад

      Regular unleaded is equivalent to 2-Star. 4-Star was the premium leaded petrol of the time, the modern equivalent would be premium (high octane) unleaded. 2-Star was 92 RON (almost the same as modern day 91 RON unleaded) and 4-Star was 98 RON, the same as today's premium unleaded fuels.

    It did, but it also slowly poisoned you, and heightened your chance of multiple types of cancer every time you had smelled it.
