- The Final Winter is an Australian drama film released in 2007. It was directed by Brian Andrews and Jane Forrest and produced by Anthony Coffee, and Michelle Russell, while independently produced it is being distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was written by Matthew Nable who also starred as the lead role 'Grub' Henderson. The film, which earned praise from critics,[3] focuses around Grub who is the captain of the Newtown Jets football team in the early 1980s and his determination to stand for what rugby league traditionally stood for while dealing with his own identity crisis
the way in which business tore up the loyalty that was between Grub's club and family. Essentially this is a metaphor for the way in which business began to imprint the game of Rugby League during the 1980s, and saw the rise of commercialism in the game.[5] Consequently Grub must battle with an administration that wanted him gone and additionally his brother and coach's betrayal. The film also deals with the domestic issues between Grub and his wife and his children, as their husband and father has been transformed from who he was to who he has become.
The game of Rugby League in the early 1980's battles against the changing game and the betrayal of those that have been loyal to. Alienated and desperate Спорт
Man I remember I was 10 or younger and dad brought this home and I watched this non stop. Good Aussie movie.
One of the best Australian films ever made
It’s an episode of home and away after the opening
110%..
My old man lived at Henson park. I remember when this came out we both went nuts !
I spent many a winters afternoon at at Henson Park in the seventies. Sometimes in cold, wet conditions and many times with a mere handful of people watching the Jets go around. There were some memorable wins and some hidings. Brian Hetherington, Steve Bowden, John Ribot, Phil Sigsworth, the scintillating Mark Wright and a host of other greats and not so greats. This film not only brings back personal memories of the era and the style of football played but also is a testimony of how rugby league has evolved into the juggernaut it is today. A fine film that every league fan should see. Well done to all those involved.
Whatsa packa
Great movie but Tommy and Max Krillich sitting together at a Newtown board meeting hahahaha, thanks for the video brought back good memories
Thanks for putting this on RUclips. Love this movie
Писали, что фильм не набрал больших сборов, но какой же интересный фильм. Мэтью Нэйбл был открытием. Я с интересом слежу за творчеством актера. Удачи ему.
A great trip down memory lane.
Aussie Rules footy fan here and I think this is by far the best sporting film ever made in Australia. The footy scene vs St George was incredible, the adrenaline rush felt by the audience is incredible, especially when the biff starts
MANCHESTER UNITED F.C yes because people are stupid sadly!!!!!!
I support man united and NRL is far superior despite or because of its exclusivity !!!
The Club (1980) based on Collingwood was a great movie. I'd rate that movie the best.
Prone One aka the shaker of cans do you call the sport rugby league nrl?
@M clown
@@slip-yp6hg This is better as it had footy players acting in it to make it more realistic.
In my opinion..one of the best Australian sporting movies, a very close second to Phar Lap
It would be good if it actually focused on sport, yet it’s more interested in that “neglectful father, family issues” crap. And the guy playing grub can’t can’t to save himself
Fantastic movie around the period 1982-83 when the game was going through some difficult financial times
It was fantastic until after the opening game. Then turned into a lame soap opera
The best rugby league movie I’ve ever seen in my opinion it just like 1980s footy and the fights are totally cool and realistic Go the jets 👍👍👍👍👍🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️
Had a great opening then turned into a soap opera and was boring the rest of the movie
@@sliat1981 Nah, it captured the origins of how Rugby League went from a 2 night training, part time role for players into the full on professionalism it now is.
@@petepierre6458 for 2 minutes. Then it was a complete snorefest
such a beautiful movie
Thank you SO much for sharing this... What an era...
Matt Nable needs to be on the big screen regularly
Прекрасный актер я всегда жду фильмы с его участием
Great movie 🎥 love Australian flicks
Matty johns. You are a good actor. Also funny. Good footy player.
Great movie.
Thanks for this, it isn't the same game anymore. In those days, it was rough as it comes. Coathangers, stiffarms, all part of the game.
Good movie. Reminds me of This Sporting Life starring Richard Harris. I saw this at the cinema the day the great Frank Hyde died (24/07/07). The game against St. George at the beginning of the movie is close to the most-realistic dramatisation of a sports match that I've ever seen in a movie.
Holy shit this is a real movie what
When league was the people’s game....
you are a champ, thanx for the upload mate
subscribed!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this ❤️💙
They were the good old days. Great show...Just one slight oversight at 52 minutes. There is NO WAY Tommy would have left a Longneck and schooner at the bar🙏
Love when matty johns gives it to the committee member in the judiciary 😂😂
Decent movie, but didn't feel like the early 80's. Bring back the Jets and Bears!! Those were the days.
I've watched 5 mins an paused 2 txt everyone I know about this. I'm sure it's never been played in NZ? Can't wait for Tommys antics.lol
Sweet.
Good movie
Thank you
Best opening ever :)
Got me so excited. Then the rest of the movie is just home and away-neighbours shit
A very good film
A modern version of the 1960s This Sporting Life which told the story of an English Rugby league player played by the brilliant Richard Harris
Great movie
Starts off as an exciting rugby league movie then turns into a episode of Home and away for the rest of the movie
😂.
Kate is the real star of this show.
Barry you going to block me again lol
Well...I enjoyed that.. That's how things were

im half yank half british, rugby league and rugby i give respect to both equally. im in yank land california, all americans think rugby is crybaby snowflake sport now, i was taught by wales and england everything but kneck and eyes was legal, half team played to knock u out. i hate yank rugby, i root for 8 original teams for rugby and league. even think all rugby crybbaies framing me to go to jail. has to be girly fight rugby only. im just parcting . they think rugby was akways girl fights. to me its navy seal stolen valor when some one says they were seal and was coward instead. same as calling rugby same name as what we played. every tackle i went head to head, everytime a orgasim. peace through sports insread we all die in war
Prophetic movie. When I want to watch good footy, I watch Origin games from the 90s on DVD. The mamby-pamby, pussy rules of today make the game too sterile.
Cleary on the judiciary panel.
Love this movie but I hate the usual Politics when comes to clubs when the are lossing and down the bottom of the ladder money running dry and getting rid of players that have at least afew seasons left for flash in the pan young dumb full off cost to much and in the end deliver very little in return unfortunately that's the way of modern League only interested in the image of the game and couldn't careless about guys going into retirement and the past.

my english welch rugby coaches told me 1st play of game late hit flyhalf no matter how late. 1 thing yanks dont know as pe teachs of kids still play like this so u coaches play against each other since 5, take it out on kids if playing a personal vendetta caoch.
