This was the first movie I saw Russell Crowe in. What a fantastic film! I was so moved by the love and compassion of the father and son. Outstanding movie!
I loved this film, I'm 65 and bi. Live at home taking care of my mother since both of us have health problems. Gave up on finding someone years ago, but this film really got to me.
Great movie, I remember it when I was a kid. Everyone in Australia knew Russell Crowe was going to be a Hollywood Superstar with performances like this, The Silver Brumby and countless other Aussie films!!
I used to watch this movie when I was twelve! This movie gave me hope and encourage me to be who I am. Also, taught me that parents can learn how to accept their sons and daughters no matter what. I really love this movie so much!
One of my favorite Aussie movies. The love & compassion between father and son are exceptional & well portrayed. Love the humor too! It is so sad that it took so long to be out in most places in the country-that was very enlightening too & very sad at the same time. Great actors in a great movie. In the states, this movie is shown on cable tv since it's release & well received.
What a phenomenal movie. I didn't see this level of quality, humor and love coming from the 90s movie. Very touched. This seems like a movie from 2030s. Being different is being normal, regular and as most people one has its daily misunderstandings. It also made me reconsider how I see (love) my family and that it is normal to treat my parents the way I treat them. I just want to say thanks. To those who have created this movie, have a seed of thought that triggered such emotions and thoughts in me. To those who have watched it.
Such a beautiful movie. Russell Crowe is just superb as is Jack Thompson and the rest of the cast. I had the same beautiful relationship with my dad until his death 2 years ago. Miss him so much.
Great movie , love the direct to camera breaks when Dad talks after his stroke, humanizes the disabled and shows gay son as normal guy and loving son. Good to see a film where actors are not caricatures.
I saw this movie when I was 14 and was always a favourite, and very ahead of its time, it has the comedy, the depth, the emotion and the bond between father and son and the acceptance I am always crying at the end as all Harry wanted was Geoff to experience what was the greatest adventure of all love xx
I absolutely love this movie.Love the relationship of the father and son. I can feel the pain of loneliness that Jeff had. I am 65, have AIDS and have given up hope of ever finding a mate or companion. You know loneliness hurts more than the worst physical pain I have endured. I carry on a lot of activity that helps me forget about it to a certain extent, so I am OK, I guess.
Harold Machroli my darling I have lived with severe and that's with a cap SEVERE CHRONIC PAIN MOST MY LIFE SO I know how you feel. truly but know this I. know for sure you are a child of God AND HE LOVES YOU HAVE YOU REMEMBERED HIM. KNOWING HIM PERSONALLY AND LIFE GIVEN FREELY TO HIM ABOVE ALL OTHERS TRULY I KNOW NO MATTER HOW BAD THIS LIFE IS NOW, IT IS ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME AND THEN NO PAIN, PEACE AND EVERLASTING JOY I know this up close and personal. I was beaten flatline and he showed me the unexplainable joy we have to look forward to SHOULD we choose him God bless CAT
Harold Machroli I hope u alive n true loneliness will drive you crazy me husband got tired of beating me and beat it out the door(movie line China blue 1984) the fucker just left hope he returns anyvays I lv u for saying you got aids may god n khriszt bless you n bring you your soul mate
wow this movie was really ahead of its times! after 25 something years most of the problems the movie talks about are still on..and in too many parts of the worlds we still struggle so much ...
What a sweat and moving film!. Now that's the kind of father and son relationship that should be regardless of the lifestyle. Everyone was wonderful in the movie and the movie hit on many stereotypes. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful and touching movie. Totally enjoyable.
I realized I had seen this before, and was happy to watch it again. A unique story of a Father & Son , the trials of life and love, with others & between the two of them as a Family. Excellent movie !
Snap, no you're not the only one!! We are watching it the same day too.! Absolutely beautiful!! Awesome performance from both Thomson and Crowe. One of, if not the best that Crowe has ever played.
What a beautiful film.... What a beautiful father-son relationship..... Great acting and so well-written.... And may I just add, Russell Crowe was adorable in this... You just feel like giving him a hug
seen this movie several times. Really enjoy it . now close to 70 and still fall in love with poor results. This makes me really sob. Still wait for Mr. Right.
It's one of my all-time favorite movies. Russell Crowe is sincere and awesome in his character as he is in all movies. It's a totally believable storyline. Heartbreaking situation with his elderly aunt, which has happened far too often in real life.
😍 In love with Russell Crowe and the character of Jeff 🤣 Beautiful heart-warming and sentimental film with a happy ending. The relationship between father and gay son is just wonderful. At one side you have Jeff's father who is very accepting and then Greg's father who is hostile. Very enjoyable film 🇬🇧
I really love watching Australian films due to the fact that as an Australian they're so relate able and reflect personalities/characters, and just general life here, in a highly accurate way.
Such a sweet film with so many themes: love and aging and loss. The struggles in trying to be in relationship. Love the Jack Thompson character. Why can't there be more Harry Mitchells in the world?
It's just so beautiful. the way the father is looking after his son's welfare, exactly as he would a daughter. there's just something about this movie. it's just screaming love left and right.
I watched this film during the Covid pandemic, thought about those people ill or being alone. I realised that love is the most important thing in life, however one expresses it, or with whoever that person may be. If we are lucky enough to find that in another person then cherish those feelings. A great film so well acted. Thank you!
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I was watching The 4th man out and Holding the man, And leaving reviews, because they really are great movies and I remembered my favorite of them all, The sum of us😎
I saw this movie years ago. Wasn't Russell Crowe hot when young. Like all of us time bring on changes, some good, some bad. Mr. Thompson played the attorney in the movie Midnight garden of good and evil. Funny how he lost his accent and picked up a southern drawl easily. lol. Thanks Russell for giving us this movie . Always good to see ourselves when we were young and full of life.
I saw the stage play of this at Above The Stag in London many years ago and have been hoping to find the film ever since. Thank you for posting! A beautiful story about love and acceptance.
FANTASTIC MOVIE!!!!!! Actually saw it MANY years ago on late night early HBO and fell in love with it. It's been quite awhile since I've seen it and took a chance to see if it was here...so glad it was. EXCELLENT message and all around feeling. Life is too short for petty judgmental crap....live and let live. :)
I was watching a biography of Russell Crowe(the bad boy who punched people?) when I learned he had been in this LGBTQ themed movie. I was surprised but curious. It was free on RUclips! And it was a great movie too.
This movie gives an excellent example of how a father can accept his gay son and continue to have a good relationship. It also contrasts with a less loving and accepting family. When a parent disowns or drives their child away they have failed as a parent. Your children are your children for life. The reverse is also true. Note that Harry's love for his son is returned when Jeff takes care of him later on. This is the way family is supposed to work. Family Values should mean caring for and loving your family members not judging them or disowning them.
Australian cinema is awesome! 1994 - a great year, this film AND Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Absolutely beautiful writing and acting. Russell Crowe is such a babe - my! how he grew up for 'A Good Year' just 12 years later.
I've seen bits and peaces of this movie a few years ago on tv this will be the first time ive seen it all the way thru and sonfar i love it and i love the accent
Great to see this film so ahead of its time. Released over 20 years ago, it sets out what the ideal relationship should be as well as a good understanding and empathy of father-son relationship . The Australian wit stands out amidst of the poignancy of some of the scenes. Warm heated and a delight. And it is about love.
I had no idea this even existed! I really enjoyed the movie. Not usually a fan of film or TV where the actors break character to talk directly to the camera but in this case, it didn't bother me so much. Great job!
If you haven't already, watch an uncut version. This unfortunately has most of the backing music cut out, which is a real shame. The music they chose really added to the various emotions within the scenes, some comedic, some sexy, but not as good without it
This movie played at the cinema up the road from where I lived when it came out. Went to see it three times, loved it so much. It remains a very relevant film as there is still alot of struggles for same-sex attracted people in this country regardless of the introduction of marriage equality.
I've seen many LGBT movies...some good, most bad but this is great because it's really a movie about fathers and sons and their love and sacrifice. I love the theater-feel to this movie with the use of soliloquy. This is truly a gem!
BEST SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE EVER. ... this is how gay people will be in 2050 and beyond .... just regular boring everyday people like everybody else. and that's a good thing.
Probably the best of Crowe's films.... maybe before he became a pain in the ass star. That is what Ridley thinks of him after too many films together I think. Always thought this a beautiful film from the first time I saw it years ago. I wonder if the soundtrack problem is the up-loader or a mistake. It happens in quite a number of films and I think RUclips tries to sabotage music tracks.
A very fine movie. Heartfelt performance by Russell Crowe before he became RUSSELL CROWE. Also very moving portrayals by Jack Thompson and Deborah Kennedy. I also had the opportunity to discuss the story with the actual writer, who I found on an aviation blog, of all things! I asked if, in a sequel, Jeff and Greg would be together. He said probably yes. I also asked if Dad and Joyce would somehow get together. He said doubtful, but one never knows.
I can feel the pain of loneliness when I was 28 I was raped by a stranger and then I tested positive for hiv then my long time boyfriend broke up with me because because he said it hurts thinking about what I went through so now I am 38 I have been lonely ever since
This was the first movie I saw Russell Crowe in. What a fantastic film! I was so moved by the love and compassion of the father and son. Outstanding movie!

Don't give up mate, you're not dead yet
Your love will find a way
@@marcopitz773 You are so kind, thanks for the 'mate' bit also especially since I'm not from Australia.
It's Saturday morning, 5:00am and I'm wide awake. I find this on RUclips. I'm so pleased I woke up early. What a beautiful movie. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
❤same
It is a wonderful film. No matter how complicated we are, we are still worth while and we should love and support each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great movie, I remember it when I was a kid. Everyone in Australia knew Russell Crowe was going to be a Hollywood Superstar with performances like this, The Silver Brumby and countless other Aussie films!!

Am only seeing it now for the first time!
Watch this and Romper Stomper back to back and it will truly show you what an incredible actor Russell Crowe is.
One of my favorite Aussie movies. The love & compassion between father and son are exceptional & well portrayed. Love the humor too! I can understand what you feel for your dad because my dad passed away 22 years ago and I loved him so much and my dad loved me so much too .

Harold Machroli hugs 🤗

One of the most heart-warming movies I've seen.. Great performance by Russell, as always.
I realized I had seen this before, and was happy to watch it again. A unique story of a Father & Son , the trials of life and love, with others & between the two of them as a Family. Excellent movie !
I can't be the only one. This is Russell Fucking Crowe! And the movie is great, just like the Aussies that made it!
The final scene with "Grandmother" and "Mary" just broke my heart. :-(
Gracias
Definitely the most heartbreaking moment in the entire movie, I had tears rolling down my face when I saw that.
The relationship with the dad and the son is amazing.
Snap, no you're not the only one!! We are watching it the same day too.! Absolutely beautiful!! Awesome performance from both Thomson and Crowe. One of, if not the best that Crowe has ever played.

Beautiful Film, someone to love and to be loved by, now that is something to be proud of! p.s. Russell Crowe, Pwwooaahhhhdreamy. :-)

To this day it gets my crying like a freaking baby. Great film. Excellent script.

It’s been available on DVD for years!

Wonderful comment. My "mother" would have done well to take some of your wisdom, rather than driving me away for being transgender and autistic.
Just a good feel good original Aussie classic. Nomatter the theme ❤
I love this movie so much, and I'm so happy to see it again. Thank you very much.
An excellent movie !! The type of family I've always dreamed of 💕
What a GREAT film. This is one that I hope will stay with me.
I'm so happy to have seen this movie.

I have had a good cry myself, mate! Had never imagines Russell Crowe playing a gay man and he does it so well. I sooo miss Sydney!
@Dia De Los Muertos -Stop it! 😆 🤣 😂 😆
Where are you living now?
I thought was well done and an excellent play of humans dealing with circumstances in life. Very heart warming! Thanks!
GREAT movie. How nice to fall in love....It's been a long long time for me
Thank you for sharing!! Recently saw in Unhinged.
I've seen many LGBT movies...some good, most bad but this is great because it's really a movie about fathers and sons and their love and sacrifice. I love the theater-feel to this movie with the use of soliloquy. This is truly a gem!
baycityblues the fathers sacrifice??? those scenes must have been removed from this version of the film.
It's a gay movie. Not "LGBTQIATTP plus plus".
Thank you for this movie it made my day better
and he owns the rabbitohs. the most macho league club there is. what a dude.
God he's gorgeous. Mad about Crowe. Mad.
BEST SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE EVER. ...

+stalematesibling it is a good thing!!
Sebastian Stormborn my wonderful gay son is just like this now, he's 22.

That’s how they are now. Except many are married to women.
Just beautiful.
I am bawling my eyes out! A simply beautiful movie. Connects to "Murial's Wedding" somehow. The sincerity of love is so powerful.
This is such a beautiful movie
1994 was a good year..!!

This was a WONDERFUL movie. Very enjoyable, and Russell Crowe was wicked yummy.
This movie deserves a sequel
Best movie I have ever seen 😭
Great script and played with tenderness.
this sums up Sydney NSW for me. Great performance all the way. Sister madly is the Soundtrack of the City.
I loved this movie

Russell is also great in Gladiator!
Such a lovely story of the love between a son and his dad. ❤
This was funny! I loved it...
Great Movie! Love Jack!
I love this movie 😍❤️😍
Really good!
He is a great actor. Guess born to it huh.
Absolutely love this movie... Your are awesome dad.... the dad I hope to be...
What a great movie 😍
A very fine movie. Heartfelt performance by Russell Crowe before he became RUSSELL CROWE. Also very moving portrayals by Jack Thompson and Deborah Kennedy.

He became russell crowe? He wouldnt have bothered! He was heavily unsufferable already! I cantón stand him!
Did he say how much of the story is autobiographical? Which character is he?
Great movie..love this true story that happens very often....
❤🙄
oh my god so so so very nice
thanks
