This was the first movie I saw Russell Crowe in. What a fantastic film! I was so moved by the love and compassion of the father and son. Outstanding movie!

I loved this film, I'm 65 and bi. Live at home taking care of my mother since both of us have health problems. Gave up on finding someone years ago, but this film really got to me.

Great movie, I remember it when I was a kid. Everyone in Australia knew Russell Crowe was going to be a Hollywood Superstar with performances like this, The Silver Brumby and countless other Aussie films!!

One of my favorite Aussie movies. The love & compassion between father and son are exceptional & well portrayed. Love the humor too! It is so sad that it took so long to be out in most places in the country-that was very enlightening too & very sad at the same time. Great actors in a great movie. In the states, this movie is shown on cable tv since it's release & well received.

  • @Themarcumo

    What a phenomenal movie.
I didn't see this level of quality, humor and love coming from the 90s
    movie. Very touched.
This seems like a movie from 2030s. Being different is being normal,
regular and as most people one has its daily misunderstandings. It also
made me reconsider how I see (love) my family and that it is normal to
treat my parents the way I treat them.
I just want to say thanks. To those who have created this movie, have a
seed of thought that triggered such emotions and thoughts in me. To
    those who have watched it.

I saw this movie when I was 14 and was always a favourite, and very ahead of its time, it has the comedy, the depth, the emotion and the bond between father and son and the acceptance I am always crying at the end as all Harry wanted was Geoff to experience what was the greatest adventure of all love xx

I absolutely love this movie.Love the relationship of the father and son. I can feel the pain of loneliness that Jeff had. I am 65, have AIDS and have given up hope of ever finding a mate or companion. You know loneliness hurts more than the worst physical pain I have endured. I carry on a lot of activity that helps me forget about it to a certain extent, so I am OK, I guess.

I watched this film during the Covid pandemic, thought about those people ill or being alone. I realised that love is the most important thing in life, however one expresses it, or with whoever that person may be. If we are lucky enough to find that in another person then cherish those feelings. A great film so well acted. Thank you!

I saw this movie years ago. Wasn't Russell Crowe hot when young. Like all of us time bring on changes, some good, some bad. Mr. Thompson played the attorney in the movie Midnight garden of good and evil. Funny how he lost his accent and picked up a southern drawl easily. lol. Thanks Russell for giving us this movie . Always good to see ourselves when we were young and full of life.

This movie gives an excellent example of how a father can accept his gay son and continue to have a good relationship. It also contrasts with a less loving and accepting family. When a parent disowns or drives their child away they have failed as a parent. Your children are your children for life. The reverse is also true. Note that Harry's love for his son is returned when Jeff takes care of him later on. This is the way family is supposed to work.
Family Values should mean caring for and loving your family members not judging them or disowning them.

Great to see this film so ahead of its time. Released over 20 years ago, it sets out what the ideal relationship should be as well as a good understanding and empathy of father-son relationship . The Australian wit stands out amidst of the poignancy of some of the scenes. Warm heated and a delight. And it is about love.

If you haven't already, watch an uncut version. This unfortunately has most of the backing music cut out, which is a real shame. The music they chose really added to the various emotions within the scenes, some comedic, some sexy, but not as good without it

Probably the best of Crowe's films.... maybe before he became a pain in the ass star. That is what Ridley thinks of him after too many films together I think.
Always thought this a beautiful film from the first time I saw it years ago.
I wonder if the soundtrack problem is the up-loader or a mistake.
It happens in quite a number of films and I think RUclips tries to sabotage music tracks.

A very fine movie. Heartfelt performance by Russell Crowe before he became RUSSELL CROWE. Also very moving portrayals by Jack Thompson and Deborah Kennedy.
I also had the opportunity to discuss the story with the actual writer, who I found on an aviation blog, of all things! I asked if, in a sequel, Jeff and Greg would be together. He said probably yes. I also asked if Dad and Joyce would somehow get together. He said doubtful, but one never knows.

I can feel the pain of loneliness when I was 28 I was raped by a stranger and then I tested positive for hiv then my long time boyfriend broke up with me because because he said it hurts thinking about what I went through so now I am 38 I have been lonely ever since

God loves you no matter what and no I'm not talking about the one you see in the media. And he can fill that void no person ever will.
