My mommy will be 81 this year. We’re not Jamaican but we’ve always called her mommy. I’m 60 & my brother is 50 & he still calls her mommy as well She was VERY strict so we jokingly used to call her “Mommy Dearest” sometimes (like the movie) 😂
As usual, such a thoughtful video. My mom loves clothes but I wouldn't say she is fashionable or conscientious about how she wears them. My dad was a wildcard - cowboy boots on Monday & platforms on Fridays. And my 2 older brothers were basically walking r&b and rap billboards, respectively. So I didn't grow up with much direction. I'm just figuring out in my 40s what it means to be intentional and understanding why some things just look better together. And thats why I ❤ your channel. I don't have it natural/or nurture-al - so I've had to learn it. You help with that! I laughed a good laugh about your disgust at the perfume. I love a powdery, woody, sweet scent. I hate florals. But the internet talked up that damn Parfums de Marley Delina Rosse. And I fell for it! And immediately said yuck. I told myself, once it dried down itd be okay. On my way to work I busted a Uturn, came home and changed my clothes. 😂 I couldn't hang. It may smell amazing on others - but on me .....peeeee yeewww! Still figuring out my 3 words. The why... Whew big question.... For now, my three words are chameleon, functional and timeless. In FACT, it's by thinking of my why, this is how I got to my words. Chameleon because how I dress can be a game of smoke and mirrors for me. I can create a character from the unassuming girl next door to the dripping wet bombshell. I got here because I didn't grow up as a conventional beauty and my mother took a hammer to my self image with her words. In my late teens, I found the power of style. What I wore could really shape people's opinions of me and I ran with the realisation. Functional. This has come with age and an appreciation for etiquette. My outfit has to work for what I am doing, where I am, how I am travelling, the weather. I am willing to suffer for fashion such a constricted waistline but I keep that to a minimum. Comfort is a part of effortlessness and I like that. Timeless. Once again, this has come with age. I love well constructed long lasting pieces that can be styled infinitely. I actively seek out vintage pieces and look forward to the time where I can have tailoring in my life. I buy thinking how long can you be in my closet and still be functional, chameleon like and timeless.... I love this train of thought you have inspired in me.... Wheew.... ❤️ 🙌🏿🙌🏿 My closet as myself is going through a change. Thank you ❤️

"Smoke and Mirrors" Was such an interesting choice of words untill you explained why you create characters in fashion (I love that by the way) You seem to be extremely aware of your "Why" and I don't think most people are. My why is because of my God mother and her Best Friends. They were so fly. I mean I would just watch them get dress and go out for the night. They all 3 had hair like your Kura. Long and Think omg remember those Big pink rollers. I mean the matching panties and bars everything’ about that was Magnificent.
Omgeeee we had similar youth experience with fashion. I remember have a white fur coat with the muff and matching hat. I remember having a lady in Manhattan calling me a Black Russian Princess 😂😂😂. My grandmother was 4”11 of chic classic fashion and that old style is the best.
I loved your video in particular that olive green coat. Yes, it is too early for Christmas, and you are never too old to call your mom "mommy." I have to say that it was my Mom, Aunt and Grandmother, as well as grandfather and Uncles that helped define my style. Since I'm 60 or "late middle age" - lol I grew up in an area where everyone dressed to go to church, to go visiting or outside. I wore my fur-lined mitts and persian lamb coat to church, or a special event in the winter. The women wore those beautiful suits, with hats, purse and shoes - the lady look (as it was called back then - Jackie O). my style has pretty much remained classic, chic, and fun/glam (my version of rebelling against the lady look all the time) - lol

YSL is dead wrong for those booties. They look like Murants 👀 Regarding scents, I'm culling down my wardrobe, too. I brought two MFKs recently and will likely get one more PDM fragrance to close out 2023. Dassit. I'm nldone till next fall. I could never wear all of the scents I buy, and eventually, their DNA changes. I'm not fooling around and risk having a fragrance go bad on me - no ma'am 😂

Happy Sunday! I understand the fragrance thing. I’m very intentional now when I add one. I sample like crazy and not fall into the hype because there is a new release literally every week lol. I’ve curated my “collection” now. My newest is carmina which is my only cherry fragrance right now. Love it. I have a couple more on the wish list. My why is definitely a result of my lifestyle and how I want to present to the world while maintaining comfort. I love relaxed silhouettes because I'm tall and I feel they look less intense than severely tailored clothing and are definitely more comfortable. The elegance is in draping, fabric choice and a bit of structure, especially for waist definition. Lastly, modern, because I love pushing boundries and being unique as an expression of my love for creativity, art and fashion.

So much about fragrance depends on how it reacts with our body chemistry. Something that starts out great can send you rushing to the shower by the end of the day, and vice versa. It’s all trial and error. Enjoy the ride.
I’ve had those experiences when I had to run to the shower to wash off the perfume ASAP! 😂 I’m learning to have fun with the trial & error. It’s a wild ride though!😂😂

The why... Whew big question.... For now, my three words are chameleon, functional and timeless. In FACT, it's by thinking of my why, this is how I got to my words. Chameleon because how I dress can be a game of smoke and mirrors for me. I can create a character from the unassuming girl next door to the dripping wet bombshell. I got here because I didn't grow up as a conventional beauty and my mother took a hammer to my self image with her words. In my late teens, I found the power of style. What I wore could really shape people's opinions of me and I ran with the realisation. Functional. This has come with age and an appreciation for etiquette. My outfit has to work for what I am doing, where I am, how I am travelling, the weather. I am willing to suffer for fashion such a constricted waistline but I keep that to a minimum. Comfort is a part of effortlessness and I like that. Timeless. Once again, this has come with age. I love well constructed long lasting pieces that can be styled infinitely. I actively seek out vintage pieces and look forward to the time where I can have tailoring in my life. I buy thinking how long can you be in my closet and still be functional, chameleon like and timeless.... I love this train of thought you have inspired in me.... THIS IS WHY FASHION IS SO IMPORTANT! Your "Why's " are a deep dive into who you are and how you had to navigate and survive in the world! With each explanation you gave I conneted the dots. "Smoke and Mirrors" Was such an interesting choice of words untill you explained why you create characters in fashion (I love that by the way) You seem to be extremely aware of your "Why" and I don't think most people are. My why is because of my God mother and her Best Friends. They were so fly. I mean I would just watch them get dress and go out for the night. They all 3 had hair like your Kura. Long and Think omg remember those Big pink rollers. I mean the matching panties and bars everything’ about that was Magnificent.

Omgeeee we had similar youth experience with fashion. I remember have a white fur coat with the muff and matching hat. I remember having a lady in Manhattan calling me a Black Russian Princess 😂😂😂. My grandmother was 4”11 of chic classic fashion and that old style is the best.

I loved your video in particular that olive green coat. Yes, it is too early for Christmas, and you are never too old to call your mom "mommy." I have to say that it was my Mom, Aunt and Grandmother, as well as grandfather and Uncles that helped define my style. Since I'm 60 or "late middle age" - lol I grew up in an area where everyone dressed to go to church, to go visiting or outside. I wore my fur-lined mitts and persian lamb coat to church, or a special event in the winter. The women wore those beautiful suits, with hats, purse and shoes - the lady look (as it was called back then - Jackie O). my style has pretty much remained classic, chic, and fun/glam (my version of rebelling against the lady look all the time) - lol

Regarding scents, I'm culling down my wardrobe, too. I brought two MFKs recently and will likely get one more PDM fragrance to close out 2023. Dassit. I'm nldone till next fall. I could never wear all of the scents I buy, and eventually, their DNA changes. I'm not fooling around and risk having a fragrance go bad on me - no ma'am 😂

I understand the fragrance thing. I’m very intentional now when I add one. I sample like crazy and not fall into the hype because there is a new release literally every week lol.
I’ve curated my “collection” now. My newest is carmina which is my only cherry fragrance right now. Love it.
I have a couple more on the wish list. But overall for 2023 I’ve finished a lot, some I won’t rebuy and bought 2. Buying just 2 so far is like who am I??? Lol

Wow, you just keep getting better! What a thoughtful question. I loved the story of the matriarchs in your family. My why is definitely a result of my lifestyle and how I want to present to the world while maintaining comfort. I love relaxed silhouettes because I'm tall and I feel they look less intense than severely tailored clothing and are definitely more comfortable. The elegance is in draping, fabric choice and a bit of structure, especially for waist definition. Lastly, modern, because I love pushing boundries and being unique as an expression of my love for creativity, art and fashion.

So much about fragrance depends on how it reacts with our body chemistry. Something that starts out great can send you rushing to the shower by the end of the day, and vice versa. It’s all trial and error. Enjoy the ride.
I’ve had those experiences when I had to run to the shower to wash off the perfume ASAP! 😂 I’m learning to have fun with the trial & error. It’s a wild ride though!😂😂
