Hands down, one of the best breeds ever. My wife and I have two long haired and I can't imagine ever switching breeds. They are so insanely goofy and fun to be around. Definitely my best buds. Love going on long hikes with them. They live for adventure.
@@chrisc6676 Depends really, they bark when people walk by the house but they're just being protective, I don't think we'll ever break that habit. Outside of that they listen incredibly well. The older one is like a shadow, the younger explores when he's off leash during hikes but he comes back when he's called or if I beep his collar. They know a few tricks and are trained to get in their kennel when my wife and I leave the house. They also know to go to the door when they have to go the bathroom. The youngest one was potty trained within a few months. Given my prior experience with a shih tzu, dachshunds are infinitely less stubborn. The main thing is repetition, gotta create rules for them and follow through each day. If the younger one didn't listen he'd still be on leash the whole time, he learned probably 9 months in that if he listens while off leash then we let him stay off leash. We have long haired though, I've heard that smooth coats can be more stubborn than long haired. Not sure what the temperament is like for wire haired dachshunds. They truly are a fantastic breed though.

Hi, Love your input! I am 70 and struggling with that as dar as getting a puppy. I decided to do it and will pick her up Saturday. I rv in the winter months and I think we will love walks and talks; together❣️
I’m on my 3rd. Had the first two until age 16, both with back problems. The first recovered naturally and was totally fine, the second through some additional difficult health issues including back surgery from which he fully recovered. Second one was a rescue, now this third one is also a rescue from 2 different breeders and 2 foster homes. Today is our 2 month anniversary and he is now feeling more like he is home for good. He was an AKC Champion and is a beautiful chocolate/silver dapple, 5 years old. Potty training is a work in progress and gaining the consistency is a challenge, but we’ll work through it. He is bossy and pretty much runs the house, but so did my other two! I’m ok with that.
I had two daschund’s,a female Duchess of Devonshire and Fritz! Both were my babies! I am afraid, Fritz was very spoiled! He trained me I didn’t rain him. Both are gone now, but I love to listen to anything about Doxies, They are my favorite breed!
On our 3 and 4th wire haired doxies. I’ve been completely won over by these guys. Strong willed and bossy. Loving and devoted. Crazy smart and problem solvers. Like a person in a dog suit
We just got another mini Dachshund after we had to put down our 14 yr old. The reasons we wanted another one is because the really love people, and are loyal and very funny. Also, they do not need lots of exercise, which we like because we're seniors.
I've always had standard short hair dachshunds and from early age they were given lots of love and instruction. Mine only gave signal barks if someone came to front door or any window. Mine learned to smile and sing on the couch and of course cuddle and then burrow under the bed linen at night. They are charming and manipulative. Great personalities. Just be careful with their backs regarding jumping downward.
Best dogs ever! Our first was a red short hair mini I named Roo; we got a second when she was ten and Delilah, mostly called Delightful, was a long hair mini; our third is a long hair mini is named Chili, mostly bc of her color but turns out she is very chill, smaller than the others at 8.8lbs. All had different personalities and just full of love. Roo lived till 16, Delightful died suddenly at 6 on my lap, vet thinks it could have been a blood issue, and Chili just turned 2 a couple of days ago. We did hire a trainer for Delilah and Chili. Delilah, being older and more set in her ways, was a bit more stubborn. Chili is amazing with obedience! I never understood training a tiny dog but boy is it wonderful to have such a well behaved dog! Roo didn’t bark until she was 5 years old, Delilah was born barking I think and Chili is, like I said, pretty chill. Thanks to whoever read this. Really missing little Delilah lately. It’s been nearly 6 months but I keep thinking she’s going to come running into the room any second. Lovely dogs.

We bought a female Dachshund 4 years ago and she has been a wonderful dog. We found her easy to train with the only achilles heal being the barking but this is because she is a watchdog. She will stop but just can't help herself when she sees someone on our house boundary, so she is doing her job. She is very clever and learns very quickly, I can just do face movements and she knows what I mean. They are very loving and cuddly and food is their life. The key for their health is to make sure you keep their weight in check and give them plenty of exercise. Don't be fooled by their size they have unbelievable stamina and can easily walk over 3 miles. We take her to Windsor Great Park and we give her a 2 km walk which she loves. She loves everyone in the family but remember as Queen Victoria said Dachshund don't have owners they have staff.
I have a Teckel (Dachshund) for hunting and as family dog. She fits in both. Very good hunting dog and very good as family dog. A dachshund can do many hunting tasks. I use here for blood trail and she retrieves smaller birds (up to duck) out of water. But they are best in a driven hunt. A small not so fast dog is best for this task.
I was a pack leader to my doxie for 15 years. He crossed over Sept of last year. Almost ready to do it again. What I love about the breed is that they have no sense of their size and will engage regardless. Also funny as hell!❤❤❤❤

My two girls are the sweetest little snugglebugs inside, but when out in nature the "working dog" part of them really shines through. There are alot of badgers in my area and my girls have definately given a few of them heart attacks. I've had to close up many old badger burrows cus they just never want to come out of them.
From destroying every stuffed toy, being demanding wanting to go outside, get food in her bowl, run to the car to sit there,& want a ride, to rolling up like an enchilada in her blankets, & sassing me when I say no...she is a cutie, so funny, and loving, plus SUPER intelligent. Not to mention - is like a mini furnace and keeps my feet warm in the winter. I also trained her to ride a skateboard, since she was obsessed with,& pushing everything on wheels with her head or paws.
I've had weenie hounds for a long time. They are the best hunting dogs there is. Exceptional noses, mean as hell, and very smart. I prefer the short haired cause I live on West Texas and it gets very hot. They can find a deer that didn't buckle at the shot faster than a guided missle!
Great information, not on this one but all. Please do one on the Great Pyrenees Livestock dogs if you did not do so already. I have had 3 passed now. Not going to get another. Great dog that needs protected. So thank you. very good vid. I got my first one at age 10. I have had 1, 2 or 3 over the years to having now totaled 7 in my 50's. Puppy training day 1 week home. Treats for tail pulled, treats for ears pulled, treats for muzzle inside closed hand. Lots of love and praise what a good dog. I C U what a good dog high pitched voice. That made a big difference to let children play with mine over the years. I rolled their cheek and lips under their teeth when they were bighting and "mouthing" when young and up to 2 years as rescues. Saying owww, ouch no. Making sad face and tone. They do seem to like to use their mouth more than most dogs to play and interact, even the licking thing. This was a great video. I hope you think it over and do a part software version 7.0 about them licking, nibbling, jumping up on your chest. All the of behaviors that put them in rescue that are not hard to resolve. I am a Alaska Sled Dog musher. USA Airborne paratrooper, Love military working, and other specific dogs. Even the Great Pyrenees. Such a good dog. Much like the dachshund. Lost's of work for the rewards of love and loyalty. I am close to the point now that I work from home 100% of the time Internet Network Engineer, of adopting a retired military service dog. I am Retired Paratrooper as well and have served with those few bread's of dogs in the Engineers. My family has been involved in animal husbandry for decades. I have not heard one word you have ever said that is not correct. Though I might have been a bit more aggressive with working jobs depending on situation. I am now in my 50's and a subscriber to stay informed.
The best dogs ever!!! Mine has slept with me since he came into this world! Sweet and very smart! Get them use to riding and meeting new people early on.
I don't understand trends in general, because... punk rock. But dog trends are mind boggling to me. These dogs are my dogs forever and I'm grateful to know that luckily. Yay Doxies!!
My Momcilo is a big breed of dachshund. His bark is very loud, like big dogs. He adores all of us, the whole family. He is as brave as a lion. Without stopping and thinking, he enters the animal's den. And last but not least, very charming behavior.
I looked after a little girl Dashound for 9 hours we had an great time together. Adorable little thing she’s a miniature Dashound. So tiny though we went to the pet shop she got so much attention. But I a tad felt worried due to her being so tinsy. I’ve been offered her as she doesn’t get on with the other two dogs the owners have. She got on great with my cats which really surprised me 😊
The sausage dog sounds lovely and you’re selling it well!! 😊 I’ve got a 14-year-old staffie which I love with passion . The breed. But I’m want to downsize as I’m not as strong as I was ❤
Heinrich photo bombed every picture of me as a baby. Bismarck was very patient and there until I was a teen. Kaiser was loyal and fierce but treated children very gently, bringing them his ball to play fetch. Wilhelm was rather aloof but also loyal. Taylor, a rescue, has been an absolute joy to my parents.
I agree with the separation anxiety part. When I leave, he sees it as his chance to protect the fort so he doesn’t get upset. But then ends up burrowing in blankets like you said 😂
I grew up with minis....my high school boyfriend had a standard size...was like a German Shepherd on shortened legs so folks should know they are Not all small!
Mine was a rescue at one year old. And damn! It took me a year and a half to housetrain her! I tried everything and nothing worked. Finally, I decided to do something different. I took her favorite treat every time I took her out. As soon as she went I gave her one and made a real big deal about it. That worked! After about 3 weeks she no longer went in the house. Now the only times she goes is when I forget to take her out. That worked for me. May not work for you. Good luck!
I just got a Standard Long coated Dachshund and honestly, she's the best thing since sliced bread!! She's so affectionate, she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. Couldn't imagine life without her now, I love the breed! Wish I got one sooner
We have a puppy, but struggling to do poos and wee outside, as he comes in and does it straight away. But a amazing breed and they have a character like no other dog, just amazing. 😊

I remember the breeder kept telling me about how beautiful (isabella color) the puppy was we were picking and thought I hadn't done my research about specific personality traits i was looking for. I realized this after we got him, in my head I was thinking "do people really buy puppies for looks?" apparently they do. I think that's why she was pushing the color so hard, I looked at 6 or 7 puppies before I made my choice. He's absolutely perfect except for the potty training but getting better.

My dachshund would be a great working dog. She can play for hours. My current dachshund is my fourth as an adult. My family had three when I was growing up. My current dog is a short haired black and tan and she seems to shed more than my previous dachshunds. Her mother was a long hair dachshund, and she seems to have thicker hair around her neck that most short haired dachshunds.
Thanks for watching! We have a video all about barking Dachshunds: ruclips.net/video/XrgdmU1BumM/видео.html. I think you'll find it helpful to watch while you're deciding if this is the right breed for you.
My doxie a few days ago killed my friends kid hamster…I told her that my dog is a hunter dog to not do that to begin with (trying to get my dog to like the baby hamster) Welllllll my dogs instincts came in and she did what she knew what to do I didn’t feel bad, it was my friends fault, she learned late to not do that 🪦 RIP baby hamster
I have what is supposedly a wire hair doxy. I think she must have another “dad”. She has never been affectionate. We got her @ 6 weeks old. She does have short legs, feet turned outward, hardly sheds long low body. She has a lions mane around her neck, furry feet that looks like she has on furry house shoes, a beard and long mustache. Very hard headed, has “her”special toys. What can I do to make her more affectionate?
Question... What are your views on the best s=age to get my mini dachshund neutered? I came across a fairly extensive UK medical research study that advised that to help prevent IVDD (basically degenerative disc disease), male dachshunds shouldn't be neutered before the age of 12 months, females shouldn't be spayed unless there is risk of unwanted pregnancies or other medical factors that come into play.
After 14 years i just lost my REXY, I have very hard time to adjust to life without my baby, I hope down the road I will find another little buddy like my Rexy,
I lost my doggie companion of 16 years last year and really feel for you - I live alone and she was my whole family wrapped into one. I now have a new dog. It’s been a huge adjustment if I’m honest. He’s so different. The bonding was slow. But it turns out that him having such a different personality is no bad thing. Wishing you all the luck in the world in finding your new companion. I decided to take my new dog to the field where I had scattered my old dog’s ashes. It was a lovely sunny day and I felt like some sort of connection had been made, which helped me with mourning
Hi I was wondering anyone has advice ? Before I start I didn’t breed this type of dog or agree with mixed breeding. I have a dachshund mixed Akita puppy and was wondering do I deal with her as more of a dachshund or Akita? She is smallish at the moment and extremely needy and smart.
I think you are going to have to wait and see. I don't know much about Akitas except they are loyal and protective, which is also true of dachshunds. Be consistent with training.
We just got a miniature dachshund puppy…he is adorable BUT he keeps chasing my cats! And he won’t stop! I have tried everything but he ignores me 😞 he is fearless…the cats have even tried scratching him but he does even flinch
that is a dachshund, they are a hound and love chasing animals. If the cat gets him good he will probably wise up. He may also just want to play with the cat.

Doxie are difficult to house break. BUT, since you already have another dog, then the doxie will imitate the lead dog. That is what has worked out great for us. And they have someone to cuddle with at night, and lay in the sun with during the day. Get one... or two since they are little.

They can find a deer that didn't buckle at the shot faster than a guided missle!
dang dude that's awesome
How are they with rabbit and quail ? Do they like to kill mice ?
My dogs barked for the first two hours, non stop, on our trip from So Cal to Oregon! 😂
Absolutely the only breed I want.... Their funny, loving, loyal, traveling ....
She got on great with my cats which really surprised me 😊
I have adopted 7 so far. They are hilarious with the courage of a Gr. SHEPARD. LOVE THEM TO PIECES
I love my Doxie, but is very stubborn with peeing in the house! One of the most lovable temperaments!
Good luck!
Had 2 minis in my life. Absolutely adored them. Weiner dogs rule.
I just got a miniature long hair in February 2021 and he is just a joy!!!!!!!!! Wish I could post picture
I just got a Standard Long coated Dachshund and honestly, she's the best thing since sliced bread!! She's so affectionate, she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. Couldn't imagine life without her now, I love the breed! Wish I got one sooner
I’m so happy for you! Everyone deserves the undying love of a dog! 💗💓
Good stuff my dude, getting a 2 year old this weekend (so i subbed and belled ;) and I'm pumped!
Welcome aboard!
Mini Wirehaired pair the best companions and bond strongly with family...
Always had one. My Babies 😍🙏🏻🙃
We have a puppy, but struggling to do poos and wee outside, as he comes in and does it straight away.
But a amazing breed and they have a character like no other dog, just amazing. 😊
I had the same issue, 12 week old daschund, be persistent and they will learn quickly!
@@callumhopkins9907 Ours just won't do it at the moment, stand outside with him and he won't do it, then soon as he comes in he does it on the training mats.😊
@@hellonearth6411 Haha well at least it's on the pads!
They forgot to mention they've got really great singing voices and they know the words to all the songs
My doxie is trying to herd me to bed for cuddle time as we speak...
I’ve had Mini Dachshunds my entire life.Current home 6200 square feet.my mini love this house.I’ll never be without a mini Dachshund. My life is better with my mini Dachshund
Great informaion.I am a dachschund daddy 4x over!

I've almost always had a dachshund and currently have seven mini's.
I can't wait for my new dachshund puppy!!!

Very informative
I go my doxie from a person who couldn't train him when he was 6 months old initial training went well then he picked up my min pins bad behavior that I was just getting under control now I have a 2 hell raisers any ideas
Hi Angela, thanks for watching! It might be worth looking at our Boot Camp course to do with your dogs to help restructure your relationship and remind them that you are pack leader. We offer a free taster course on our website, so head over there for more details:www.fenrirdogtraining.com/courses
Thanks now my parents Really want a dacshund now >:D
If u don't have an alarm clock then this is the dog for u.
Do they bark a lot and can they be left alone while I am at work?
im thinking of getting one but ive hard that they have a barking problem. do you have any videos on training barking
Thanks for watching! We have a video all about barking Dachshunds: ruclips.net/video/XrgdmU1BumM/видео.html. I think you'll find it helpful to watch while you're deciding if this is the right breed for you.
Thanks man!
I have a Dachsund. Named Pal. He is in my lap now
My doxie a few days ago killed my friends kid hamster…I told her that my dog is a hunter dog to not do that to begin with (trying to get my dog to like the baby hamster)
Welllllll my dogs instincts came in and she did what she knew what to do
I didn’t feel bad, it was my friends fault, she learned late to not do that
🪦 RIP baby hamster
daumm he massacred that hammy

I have what is supposedly a wire hair doxy. I think she must have another “dad”. She has never been affectionate. We got her @ 6 weeks old. She does have short legs, feet turned outward, hardly sheds long low body. She has a lions mane around her neck, furry feet that looks like she has on furry house shoes, a beard and long mustache. Very hard headed, has “her”special toys.
What can I do to make her more affectionate?
Just lost my 15 year old but getting a new puppy in July.
FYI it is not permitted to have an animal to travel in the aircraft cabin in Australia
I have 3 males. Except I had to put my 13 year old to sleep. Brain tumor???? I am devastated. He went through hell and back with me.
After 14 years i just lost my REXY, I have very hard time to adjust to life without my baby, I hope down the road I will find another little buddy like my Rexy,
Don't worry you will. My condolences to you 💕💕💕
I lost my doggie companion of 16 years last year and really feel for you - I live alone and she was my whole family wrapped into one.
I’m *SOOO* sorry. 😢 Everyone you love will *ALWAYS* be with you for eternity 🙏💗
Me to!
You do a RUclips channel on a corgi ?
It's in the works!
How do i get my mini dashound to stop biting me
Can somebody please tell me if I should try ask my parents for a blue dappy dachshund? How much are they?
Hi I was wondering anyone has advice ? Before I start I didn’t breed this type of dog or agree with mixed breeding.
I have a dachshund mixed Akita puppy and was wondering do I deal with her as more of a dachshund or Akita? She is smallish at the moment and extremely needy and smart.
I think you are going to have to wait and see. I don't know much about Akitas except they are loyal and protective, which is also true of dachshunds. Be consistent with training.
Love my Maggie. But, she can be hard headed. I guess that is what you call independent!
I had one of this when I was 5 I named him hotdog but the dog sitter stole it from me
We just got a miniature dachshund puppy…he is adorable BUT he keeps chasing my cats! And he won’t stop! I have tried everything but he ignores me 😞 he is fearless…the cats have even tried scratching him but he does even flinch
that is a dachshund, they are a hound and love chasing animals. If the cat gets him good he will probably wise up. He may also just want to play with the cat.
@@jamiewilding6979 thank you, he is getting much better now :) cat has swung a claw at his nose a few times
Same problem hahaha
I love y baby, Chanel. She's 3years , soon...to be 4 next month October 2022. I love her to pieces, and will not cash her in for all materials in the world. She's my be sidekick friend and daughter.
You should do Scottish terrier channel
Thanks for the suggestion! We do have many more breeds planned :)
Can I ask a few questions regarding your products?
Hi Shelia, of course! Feel free to contact us via email: contact@fenrircanineleaders.com
Yass
Will this Dachshund hunt snakes 🐍
Mine just ate a chunk out of one 😅
New sub looking forward to watching your sausage dog content :)
Hopefully for my future and New friend ❤
A standard dachshund will certainly not fit in a tote.
Can you get one when you already have another dog because my mom and I really want to get a Dachshund but we already have another dog
Of course, it might take some time for the to get to know each other but we have a video looking at how to introduce your puppy to an adult dog you might find helpful: ruclips.net/video/RX8VL4K_03c/видео.html
Doxie are difficult to house break.
BUT, since you already have another dog, then the doxie will imitate the lead dog. That is what has worked out great for us.
And they have someone to cuddle with at night, and lay in the sun with during the day.
Get one... or two since they are little.
