Hello, my family just got our puppy about four days ago. He's fourteen weeks old. Potty training has been difficult, especially here in the North East during winter. I decided to purchase a pack n play ,this has helped so much. I keep a puppy pad on one side and bedding on other side. He always uses his puppy pads. We have one room lined with wall to wall drop cloths and puppy pads. He is free to play there. It takes constant attention to keep up with changing out pads. He is never allowed to have free roam of our home. It would not take long for him to take over with Potty messing room to room. It's important to make sure your puppy potties before breakfast. Always keep a close watch over your puppy because they will Potty many times each day. The pack n play really gives us a chance to do little bits of household chores at a time. His diet is white rice chicken tenders , carrots ,and broccoli cooked in unsalted broth. This is twice a day, with one meal of dry puppy food.
We are getting a 12 week old miniature dachshund tomorrow. Whole family is excited. Thank you for making this video, I think you've offered excellent instructions for us to build a good foundation for training. Cheers.

AN 23 I have a 5 month Chiweenie. 3/4 Doxie and 1/4 chihuahua. I struggled so bad I hated it!!! But I will tell you now... do not do pad training if you live in an apartment or house with predominantly Carpet! Hey, love the set up great back drop! Just discovered your video as I’m doing my research for our pups arrival on Saturday! When you say on the hour do you mean during the night too? And how long would you wait outside till, if they don’t wee? Sorry if you’ve answered this in other videos! About to watch the rest of yours now haha
Hey Sam, thanks so much for watching! It's best to take their water off the floor an hour before bed and make sure they go to the toilet before you put them to bed. Then hopefully everyone should have a good nights sleep and they can go out in the morning and you can put their water back down. Hope everything goes well with settling your new arrival in!

We have 2 mini Dachshund puppies and my husband has been quick to dismiss putting them in an enclosed area in our fenced backyard, so I had him watch your video as well. My 15 week old mini Doxie has been great up until this week, I let him out every few hours and he pees and poops outside, he also sleeps through the night with no accidents. I have a crate and playpen area for him but recently he started peeing randomly in the carpets, he pooped on the floor and peed last night on our couch! I was not happy and my husband was really annoyed. We love this little sweetie but I’m wondering if I should get a pine pellet litter box so I don’t have any more accidents on carpets or the floors. My husband and I both work on different days and days where we’re both working. I do have somebody coming in two times during the day and he is in his pen and he does very good on those days so I don’t know why he’s all of a sudden doing this. Please advise on a litter pan, I do have the PP pads. He hates them and runs around the house with them like they’re a toy so they’re useless to me and I don’t want to use them anyway because I feel like they use those. They think it’s OK to use the carpet.
Hi! We are doing pretty much everything in this list of tips, regular putting outside after eating/drinking, and when our miniature dachshund wakes. But with the on the hour every hour, do we still do this if he is fast asleep in the daytime? (Wake him from sleep to go?) Thanks 😁
@@rebecca8013 Hi there Rebecca, we are getting our puppy in April! Question is while in the crate at night do you still have to do the hour on the hour for pee training? Thanks in advance
@@antoinettegould2743 congratulations on your imminent new pup 😍just like you wouldn’t wake a human baby you don’t want to wake your puppy. Keep your crate next to the bed so you can hear them whimper when they wake up… as quickly as possible take them to the wherever the toilet is wait for them to go…pick them up immediately after and put back in crate. I recommend only speaking there prompt to wee and a yes on delivery. You don’t want them to think it’s play time 😃 The first month for us was pretty tiring but ours is accident free
I had a miniature dachshund short hair, but I just found a long hair miniature dachshund. Never have owned a long hair. Do you have any suggestion on grooming? Recently lost my short hair, so i’m getting a new one.
Apparently it can be a test of patience to potty train a Cockapoo as well. (I had a Sheltie who was quickly trained.) Sigh. I’ve been being consistent and taking out so many times a day. I’m making notes of time and what he did. What I notice when I think I see a pattern he changes it up. I think he’s very stubborn.
I’m in tears with my puppy! I’ve had her since she was 6 weeks old (rescue) and is now 12 weeks old. I take her out very frequently and for 15 mins or longer at a time- she will not go but as soon as she comes inside… either in a small gated area and even crate she will use the bathroom (number 1 and 2)… I don’t know what to do anymore! If I allow her to run free she can be fine one min and the next she’ll just squat without even sniffing or acting any different. I’m at a loss… HELP PLEASE!
We pick our puppy boy up in the next few days. He'll be 2 months old whats the process of potty training before he's even aloud in the garden before he's had is 2nd injection 🤔
What should i do regarding potty training threw the night should i still be going down every hour to let them out threw the night or just every couple of hours or not at all and just clean up the next morning as going down every hour to let them out surely wont be good for them waking them up
Do you have any suggestions on how I can get my Doxie puppy to potty outside in the winter months with it being so cold? I can’t get her to stay out long enough to do her business.
Same here. Raid, snow, cold, forget it.. they cannot stand precipitation or cold. It's a tough battle to get them to concentrate and do their business in these conditions.
Did you guys find a way that worked for y’all ? Here in Washington it’s about to hit 30-50 degrees on the daily and I’m very worried if I’ll be able to train. I’m going to be bringing my pup home in 2 weeks.
Same here. We just got two mini Dachshunds and they refuse to even be set down in the snow. They jump and whine, and go potty as soon as we bring them inside. They seem to be following training just fine when there is no snow.
I’ve found feeding him half hour before the walk. I take him outside. In the cold weather I play with him using a ball so he gets warm and starts not bothering about the cold( he a has a coat as well) then after a bit he does his business and I make a fuss of him when he gets back in.
Thanks. What do you do if the puppy just won't toilet outside. We have followed what you've said and he never goes outside. When we come back in he usually goes within a few minutes. I catch him in action and try to get him outside but he's just not getting it.
I have one that’s gonna be a year soon and he’s reverse house broken. So he holds it until he comes inside no matter how long we’re outside. He’s confined to the kitchen right now and taken out very frequently and it’s just not happening and now he’s depressed and holding it for 12 hours no matter what. He just holds it all day and refuse to go. We praise a ton when he does and give him treats cuz he’s food motivated. He’s depressed and he screams in the kitchen most the time which we give him monitored breaks from the kitchen. But he’s so stubborn and I’m worried about his health with holding it. We know the times that he wants to go but the second we let him free I know he’ll go in my house

Would you suggest a Dachshund for a person that has to go to work during the daytime and lives in an apartment so they can't let them into a backyard or have a doggy door?
This is my question!! I have a 3 month old puppy and I live in an apartment.. I’m gone maybe 5 hrs and she stays in the crate but I let her go potty on the pads in a certain spot at home.. she does good as far as going pee on the pads but poop she goes in another spot.. sometimes she goes on the pads but I’d rather her pee on the pads then my carpet lol I can’t take her out yet bcyz she doesn’t have all her vaccines yet.. but I have been consistent with being on her and watching her or leading her to the puppy pads.. it’s a lot to do but she learned quick.. I just gotta get her to always go poop on the pads as well. Idk how it will be once I can take her outside to go potty but I hope it’s not hard lol
Got ours yesterday, he seemed to be having a great start and now his second day he won't go outside Everytime we bring him out and then goes straight away back inside. Being patient and strong
I am having the same problem more or less, 2 days since he has been able to go outside, my puppy will hold it until he gets back inside. Did you manage and how?
Mine is doing this as well very stressful. She's 8 weeks I can sit outside up to 20 minutes without her doing anything sometimes then as soon as back inside she will do a piss.. very annoying
I got a 13 month old chiweenie. He never has accidents in the house.problem is he will not poop in his own yard.he needs to go for a walk or to the dog park.what can I do to get him to use his own yard?
As (grampa) my Fred's wife had 5 pups I had the pup's in a box next to my bed when they would cry I would rub and stoke the ones making most nosie.when it was potty train the reward system worked best, praises 😊 not so much treats as they mite think if I poop I get food😮 went I feeded them then potty break worked the best.🎉
I guess I have one special dachshund! I got her (8 weeks old) 6 days ago and had her trained in 3 days. Took her out after every nap and every hour when she was awake. Now she runs to the back door and asks to go outside to do her business. I thought it would be hard but it was so easy.
We have got two boy miniature dachshund, they are 12 weeks old now. Every trainer has said we should of never gotten two at the same time. Any tips on training two doxie boys at the same time?
We are about to get our second dachshund puppy next weekend. She will be eight weeks. I’m going to try this very strictly with her, for the time being due to her age, would I be best using puppy pads or a grass litter Dog box for her for the time being? And as she gets older, begin taking her outside? Or would I be better off taking her outside from day dot? Just worried due to her not being fully vaccinated yet. thank you for your video. Hopefully this encourages our first doxy to begin understanding a little bit more. He’s generally pretty good however he does have the occasional accident usually due to excitement. 🤍🤍
My dog does not like to eat much so I've been leaving the food out for him. We'll be moving to a schedule today. He hides the pee and poop wait so I turn my back and goes under or behind something. If I catch him he quickly eats it. He does not want me to see
What do you do when you’ve taken your pup outside for a quite awhile and then they come in and promptly squat on the carpet? Also, when it’s raining I have a very hard time getting him to go outside. Any tips? Thank you for this video! Very helpful!
I understand the rigors of house breaking a pup...but I just got a rescue 3 years old who is not house trained. She's reliably pee pad trained...but I want her to be outside trained. Little twit won't go potty in yard...I have to walk her up and down the street...which is fine in the day time but not after dark...help.
Advice on dachshund nibbling on fingers and clothing!, we have a 9 week old dachshund and he loves to nibble on fingers and loose clothing especially after he gets and treat and doesn’t get anymore. I’ve heard it’s okay to let them nibble as long as it’s not hurting you and that they will grow out of it but I have also heard to not let them nibble at all or it will become a habit! Just wondering what your opinion on it is?
I'm having a terrible time with my mini dachshund and his teething. I have bought all kinds of teething toys and tried the frozen wash cloths, etc. Nothing seems to work. My puppy is ferocious in the evening and night. He chooses to gnaw on my arms and feet. I am at the end of my rope! He is 15 weeks old at the writing of this comment. Thank you.
Hi there, my puppy was doing so well with toilet training but now he has decided to constantly use the house as his bathroom and just recently...my foot! We do all the things you suggest although as we are out for work he is in a crate but every few hours we drop in , is this a behaviour stemming from being left alone? We had a designated spot also and he does not use it any more, instead all over the tiles. Please help
Hopefully our video has helped give you some tips on how to get your pup back on track. Remember the best way for them to learn is with clam and consistent leadership, you've got this 💪🏼

Hardest thing for me is I live in an apartment, by myself with my puppy, and I work up to 10 hours a day. He then stays in his kennel/play pen when I go to work and he is used to using a pee pad. We are about to move into a house and we will have a back yard so im hoping he will do better with that. I am also curious, when he goes into his play pen area, should he have water in there with him or does it just promote going pee?
So I’m managing to get my doxie puppy to wee and poo outside but then am crating him overnight and when I come down in the morning he’s been to the toilet in there. Should I be getting up through the night to let him out? After he’s been in the crate on a night it’s always hard to get him back into the routine of going outdoors?
I’m at a loss, I take my dachshund puppy out, he pees and poops, we celebrate! Then we go inside and he poops and/or pees again inside shortly after (within 20 mins)
our puppy was house trained on pee pads by the breeder which I think is a very bad thing to do. So now I have had to take up area rugs because he would pee on them. He’s an adorable lil guy but should have done more homework on this breed. Pretty sure I would not have got him.
Every hour on the hour? So, how does this work when you need to sleep? You can't be awake all night and if you leave them in their crate over night, you will just wake up to a mess and they will be dirty because they walk in it so then you're constantly having to clean them and clean up after them every morning. With indoor pee pads, the dachshund will just chew it non-stop. Directing its attention away with a toy does not work. It goes right back to chewing the pad. Giving it a treat after using your key word/command to get them to stop (to reward positive behaviour for stopping) also does not work. The dog goes right back to the pad after a few seconds. If you stick the pad to the ground with adhesive, the dachshund will just chew and rip the centre of the pad. Bitter spray also doesn't work. He's not at all bothered by the taste. He will chew the pad, you take it away to stop him chewing, then he just pees on the floor maybe a minute later. This breed is so badly behaved and all these tips online have not worked at all. And yes, I've been consistent for days and weeks on end. Try doing this also when you're trying to work and attend meetings. It's so irritating how videos like this just make it seem like the owners are useless or lazy and the solution is so straightforward. It's not.
What happens when everytime you take you them outside they whine and dont go for like 10 minutes until you give up, go back in and they instantly do it on the floor lol - this is my current challenge
My mini doxie is a year old and still peeing around the house.... I took her outside after she ate and she pottied, but she still went on my carpet 30 minutes later... I love her to death, but this is a huge annoying issue.. I put her in her crate afterward..
I'm sorry... but this was so unhelpful. I feel like these are things that are somewhat obvious that many of us must do already. We need to know what we're missing???

Very helpful video thank you, was looking for advise my dashund puppy keeps jumping and trying to get on the sofa, how can we stop her please?
Hi! We are doing pretty much everything in this list of tips, regular putting outside after eating/drinking, and when our miniature dachshund wakes. But with the on the hour every hour, do we still do this if he is fast asleep in the daytime? (Wake him from sleep to go?) Thanks 😁
I wouldn’t wake your pup up during day but take IMMEDIATELY upon waking
You don’t want them to think it’s play time 😃
The first month for us was pretty tiring but ours is accident free
We have a twelve week old. I am interested how you got on and any tips
We will take an hour long walk and he lets loose as soon as we get home. I feel so frustrated.
I’m in the EXACT situation you were in! What helped? How long did it take?
@@Louise-xr5okI have a 12 week old as well? Did you have any success ?
@@mirbear72did anything work? What age did it get better?
We pick our puppy boy up in the next few days. He'll be 2 months old whats the process of potty training before he's even aloud in the garden before he's had is 2nd injection 🤔
Late but I just got my weenie, and the thing you said about not leaving food out, can you explain why?
What should i do regarding potty training threw the night should i still be going down every hour to let them out threw the night or just every couple of hours or not at all and just clean up the next morning as going down every hour to let them out surely wont be good for them waking them up
what if your at work during the day and cannot do the hour on the hour for Potty training. Getting my new puppy in mid November.
I'm worried about the same. How did it go for you?
so how did it go? did you manage to do potty training while you work full time / whole day? thanks!
What do u do if u r following the potty training protocol and they come in and then go inside?
Ah yes, little stubborn breeds! I've accidentally become the person for a Chihuahua and a mini Dachshund...I adore them.❤️
Thanks. What do you do if the puppy just won't toilet outside. We have followed what you've said and he never goes outside. When we come back in he usually goes within a few minutes. I catch him in action and try to get him outside but he's just not getting it.
What if you have to go to work
I have one that’s gonna be a year soon and he’s reverse house broken.
This happens to me !! I’m so desperate because he won’t go outside! He will holds until he is inside
Let him out of the kitchen, that's abuse. The dog is elderly. Or just give me your address and I'll come get him .
@@jennaagee7992 it’a not abuse, crate training is a thing.
Nowhere did this comment say that the dog is elderly .
And you dont know what country they even live in
I have had my Doxie for 9 weeks, I got him when he was 9 weeks old and he is house broken.
TRAIN HIM WITH A BARK POTTY,CLICKER, AND TREATS IF YOUR STILL STRUGGLING
What about if I’m off at work our guy is 3 months old also do we need to get him up from sleep at night?
I got a 13 month old chiweenie. He never has accidents in the house.problem is he will not poop in his own yard.he needs to go for a walk or to the dog park.what can I do to get him to use his own yard?
I have 2 mini doxies- a long haired female and smooth haired male. 3 years and 3 months!! 😂
Can I use litter box with my dachshund puppy?
did you ever find out? I’m thinking of buying one. help me out!
As (grampa) my Fred's wife had 5
pups I had the pup's in a box next to my bed when they would cry I would rub and stoke the ones making most nosie.when it was potty train the reward system worked best, praises 😊 not so much treats as they mite think if I poop I get food😮 went I feeded them then potty break worked the best.🎉
We do have a video looking at how to train multiple dogs at the same time: ruclips.net/video/gzd5BaPId8E/видео.html
Help, I have a six month old puppy that has not been potty trained. How do I deal with this ?
What Exactly is high praise?
High praise just means like praise it A LOT A LOT
How do I teach my new mini dachshund tricks and is there certain tricks she can't do?
im at my wits end!!!
Oh yeah I feel your pain
I understand the rigors of house breaking a pup...but I just got a rescue 3 years old who is not house trained. She's reliably pee pad trained...but I want her to be outside trained. Little twit won't go potty in yard...I have to walk her up and down the street...which is fine in the day time but not after dark...help.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Please help me first time owner of a Dachshund to stop biting months old .

Remember the best way for them to learn is with clam and consistent leadership, you've got this 💪🏼
My puppy caught Parvo when she was 3months old. Now she’s 9months and is still confused about where to use the restroom. She’s inside and goes back and forth inside and out.
How do you properly punish a puppy/dog for bad behavior? A lot of my family members smack their dogs when they are bad. What would you recommend?
Hey Jessica, thanks for watching!

Same here! I hope he answers because I really wanna know what to do
Same here
10 hrs a day?! Rehome it. It will have a better and happier life with someone that actually has time for a puppy. Smh
Yes you absolutely need to let him out a few times overnight. Set an alarm.
We actually have a video over on one of our other channels looking at this question: ruclips.net/video/xad1lL0iy-M/видео.html&pbjreload=101
My dog is a crazy girl she’s go’s on the floor?
What if your dachshund is 3 months old when you got him and not pottytrained
I need to confirm guys is it every hour through the night 👍👍
I’m at a loss, I take my dachshund puppy out, he pees and poops, we celebrate! Then we go inside and he poops and/or pees again inside shortly after (within 20 mins)
our puppy was house trained on pee pads by the breeder which I think is a very bad thing to do. So now I have had to take up area rugs because he would pee on them. He’s an adorable lil guy but should have done more homework on this breed. Pretty sure I would not have got him.
I have a dashound dog.he always runs to the road.is there anything to practise him not to
Every hour on the hour?
It's not.
How many times do I have to get up in the night?
Thanks for watching! We've got a video looking at toilet training over night you might find helpful: ruclips.net/video/xad1lL0iy-M/видео.html
2month old
You can’t even get close to them without them peeing
Yup I have 2 total pain in the ass to potty train
This didn't tell me anything about the step by step process of potty training. Nothing but generalities.

So much talking…so little info.

My dachshund just peed all over my car. I’m so upset. He’s lucky he’s not walking home.
I'm sorry... but this was so unhelpful. I feel like these are things that are somewhat obvious that many of us must do already. We need to know what we're missing???
