The anatomy grows on you honestly. Its stylistic choice that plays very well with the dance expression. How lovely.
True, it might be a little odd at first but as you watch through it you kinda see why the animators/artists exaggerate the necks so as to put more emphasis on the ballroom dancing concept.

Guys, it's art. It doesn't have to be realistic. It's the artist's decision to draw their bodies like this to enhance the feeling of inertia in movement.
If its not your cup of tea, that's alright. But don't think it's a mistake or lack of skills ❤
I watched some ballroom dancing competitions and I wouldn't say that the designs are even that unrealistic
But it is a mistake. Yes, it's an authors choice. Yet it is easy to overdo such stylistic choice (talking from experience). It would be fine if author meant them to be creepy, but he clearly didn't. Which means that it is an artistic fail. He meant to create something, but succeded in creating something else entirely, and this 'else' is unfortunately out of place here

lmao. in ballroom dance, it is importance for a performer to stretch their poisture to its maximum limit thus showing long neck. the longer their neck stretch out the more it captures the silouette of a good dancer

Tbh when I started watching it, I was bawling. I was taking screenshots and sending it to friend. But the neck "grows" on you haha

Am i the only one that's fine with their necks. Everything abt this anime's artstyle is mesmerising.
Something about it just suits it so well.
It may be purposely done because in ballroom you have all these odd and dramatic postures. The artist may have even made that a stylistic choice to guide the eye through the art in the Manga and better convey the movement of the dance even in a still image.
I watched some vids of ballroom dancing and I wouldn't say it looks that unrealistic

When I was young I thought the art style with this anime is so uncanny. Now after years of pursuing art, this anime really appealed for me, especially how pretty and elegant they drew the female characters when they dance. The body anatomy is very much exaggerated, but it works in this setting.
Yknow I thought the necks were exaggerated, but then I saw actual ballroom dance pros and then I realize the anime has the same proportions

I loved this anime and I fell in love with the art for it. I really liked the style because the first three seasons of haikyuu were animated with this studio and Haikyuu is one of my all time favorites, so I fell in love with this pretty quickly😅

W taste in anime chief what others you like
Of all the anime I've watched, I'm honestly suprised by the amount of people getting distracted by the "long neck" . Ballroom dancing typically revolves around dancers extending and stretching their body with their posture which is probably why the artist intended the necks to be long so that it exaggerates and puts more emphasis on the ballroom dancing concept.
Ballroom dance was amazing , those expressions gave me more details than dance. Those two competetives were awesome one was who achieved everything, one was ready to scarfice everything for dance. But smiles were there on both faces. Beautiful art gave more meaning to dance ❤
Competitive ballroom dancers generally use very exaggerated movements and facial expressions so the way this is animated seems pretty appropriate.
At first the neck and the how long the body looked made it hard to watch but eventually it grows on you and you don't notice it anymore. I recommend watching it for the beauty 😭🤧❤️ animation was beautiful, the characters are amazing and the music is just *chefs kiss*
What I love most about this art style is their defined silhouettes. If you colored them in completely with black, their movements would still tell a story.

It’s too bad this anime doesn’t have a second season……..out of all of the anime’s that I’ve watched, this one is my favourite for sure!!!!!!

I understand why this would look weird but its literally not the whole anime. They don't always look like "giraffes" and their faces are very much beautiful. They are clearly so immersed in the moment it can be seen as nearly realistic. Sometimes you do something you love dearly and you just get so lost in it that you realize that you're making a face that may seem weird. I really enjoyed this anime and fully would urge others to watch/read it. Of course, there are many that don't prefer or like this style of art and that's okay. There are many stories that include this type of genre and maybe that would interest you more although I think its rare to find anime that includes the "dance" genre. Also, there are many other animes that change the human body to make it fit the story that the artist is trying to emphasize. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Its not the long necks cause it does grow on you but....for a dance anime you would expect to see more animated dances not just characters commenting how good is a dance without showing it
Yup they should have consulted and planned dance routines to animate and show like yuri on ice did
I think they just copied off of the manga.
it’s j an anime, it portrays the way an artist wants to tell a story, like cartoons in america. like the hulk, sandman, or if you’ve seen jacob two two’s principal, like their proportions are off but we still like to see them on screen. i like the elongated feel to the characters . it’s a different approach and very entertaining to watch. like their eyes are beautiful and the way that the flowing long dressing goes with their bodies is a perfect fit.

I really am considering ball room dancing because of this. I love the outfits I love the thrill and I like how their posture is exaggerated that I find so elegant

For me, its hard not to see all the elongated parts [arms, neck, legs] but im kinda getting along it, im kinda grateful it doesnt happen all the time and just while theyre dancing, they truly remind me of little nightmares sometimes

for what it's worth, speaking as someone who has done ballroom dance and gotten to watch pro competitions, that part is actually NOT being whatsoever exaggerated, haha. it is genuinely really striking and beautiful to see live.

It's as If people don't realize what an art style is
That's what I feel too. It's normal to disregard "proper" anatomy when developing a style as you become more experienced. Just as you might stop distancing eyeballs exactly one eyeball away from each other, you'll also play with their other body proportions to tell a story or add to your movements. For me, I didn't notice until people commented on it since it blended in with the dramatic motions. My brain didn't register it, but it definitely added to the suspense and excitement of the dances.

Anime most of the time is just an expression, with a LOT of emphasis.
It’s only natural for the art style here to exaggerate the image of a competitive dancer.
