In a televised address, the King paid tribute to his “darling mama” saying “may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”, and renewed his mother’s lifelong promise of service.

That was an excellent speech, especially considering his personal circumstances. Poignant, heartfelt and he stroke the exact right balance between royal role and family in mourning. I was very touched by how he expressed his love for his mother at the end.
The royal family isn't allowed to show much emotion on camera or in the public either. You could tell after this was shown he absolutely was at tears. God bless.
Yeah, it was the best speech from a family spending millions of taxpayer money to try to cover up for a child rapist.
Nah
Yes, I was deeply touched also at the end of his speech.
Agree 👍
This man will be a good King. The speech was obviously quite personal, honest and thus touching. God save the King!
Always are personal because their reign starting marks the death of their parent 😢😢
@mbradfield53 Not always the case; George VI became king because his brother abdicated the throne.
Queen Elizabeth II's legacy lives on through him and will live on through Prince William, Prince George of Cambridge, and to the next generation of the Windsors.
While mentioning Philip his eyes start to fill up with tears
Heartbreaking

Whether you like Charles or not you have to respect his speech and the fact that he just lost his own mother, a woman who was admired by many people - God Save the King
I hope he's able to keep the commonwealth together.

I think many people underrate him because of how he treated Lady Diana but I’m sure he will do great as the King

@@stocktonjoans The Queen also took on a massive responsibility, she gave back with stoic resolve and steadfastness, and suffered arrows like everyone else. Just because one is born into royalty does not make them immune to difficult trysts. This token of appreciation from Charles was purely a tribute from a son for his dead mother. I'm not into his great reset and thankfully he'll not be a spokesman for the World Economic Forum now he has royal duties, and l'm not s royalist having been married to an Irishman, again l felt his speech hit the right note.
The ending :( you could see he was going to break down & I do not blame him & should not feel he has to hide his feelings it was his mother at the end of the day, this is probably the hardest thing he has ever had to do especially just over 24 hours after his mother has passed, God Save The King 💗

When he said, "As you begin your last journey..." that "last" captured all the sadness and emotions King Charles felt. Beautiful and heartfelt speech indeed!
I very rarely follow the royal family but from what I did see of various photos and articles about the queen and the rest of the royal family the queen was most definitely a beautiful and incredibly smart lady and how she carried herself gracefully despite health issues she left her family a gracious grand legacy. I hope that king Charles III will continue the gracious grand work that his mother greatfully done throughout her years. Rest in happiness and peace Queen Elizabeth II you have dutifully earned it.

Charles has really grown into his new role as King over the last many years. He will do well.
Well the king doesn't really have power anymore, so yeah I'm sure he'll do well spending taxpayer money.

What a touching speech..Last autumn I lost my beloved member in my family,my grandmother..and i particularly know how it feels:the lost... I'm sure that HM Charles the third will do the best as he can in memory of his honorable mother.. God bless the King!
Sorry to hear that man, lost someone last year as well so I know the pain. Just gotta keep moving forwards.
You've got to hand it to him, the man couldn't have pulled this off better if he tried. Many people have had doubts about his ability to carry the monarchy after his mothers death. He's certainly got a tough job ahead filling his mothers shoes. But if this speech proves anything, it's that he's more than up to the task.
Perhaps it's understandable that he may have been very much under estimated while in the shadow of his mother. And perhaps a great deal of that misjudgement of him has been of his own making out of his own sense of duty - that he knew his place as heir in waiting was to never outshine his mother.
You've absolutely nailed it John. He knew to never outshine his mother, a true heir in waiting.
Well, he listened to his mother...he's all ears.
Well said John
I remember watching the speech with my Grandad, my grandmother (2nd Nanny) and my 2009 Woody. Woody was absolutely full of heartbreak because he worried for mine and my mother’s mental health bless him
"May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest"
I don’t mind admitting I cried and cried at this beautiful speech
I cried too in my grandmothers arms as we mourned the Queen.

Fantastic speech. Had me in tears towards the end. Long live the King!

I'll never forget being invited to an event that was thrown together in honour of a particular nation's heritage in conjunction with a large corporate in London. Their Ambassador had been repeatedly invited and had shown little interest until it became known that very evening that the Prince would be in attendance. Barely able to speak coherent English, he was doing a horrific job at talking the attendees through the exhibit. In stepped Charles who absolutely rescued the situation with his detailed knowledge & eloquence. This man is very underrated, and has led a hugely accomplished and productive life without blueprint, often in the face of unwarranted cynicism from the sneering press. He is a uniquely prepared Sovereign, and has long been an asset to Britain. I watched him tell the Royals of another nation that had taken to constructing large shiny buildings not to demolish what was a decaying yet historical cultural hub with the deftest subtlety. His knowledge of my own country, Pakistan, and our regions, and even our cottage industries impressed me immensely. Make no mistake he has elephantine shoes to fill, but if anybody has a shot, it's him. I hope the Brits give him a chance.
I’ve seen some of his old interviews, some of which were with late Princess Diana. One thing that stood out for me about all his interviews is how passionate he is about protecting natural environment, and how he respected the diverse heritage. In one of the interviews from the 80s, he talked about his vegetarianism & how people are always shocked when someone is a vegetarian but they’re perfectly okay with non-vegetarianism, implying how vegetarianism is good for our environment, yet it’s looked down upon. This was the 80s mind you, but what he said then, holds true today.
I think he’ll do a wonderful job as a King. He’s much more outgoing and open compared to The Queen, as she came from a more conservative generation.
@@SimV239 He's always been the most ardent critic of genetically modified foods, modern farming practices, and a passionate defender of the environment. If you ever get the chance to visit Highgrove the way he set up the grounds with the help of his sister in law shows such an intricate knowledge of nature. I've never seen anything like it. His vegetarianism was probably short-lived. His favourite meal is grouse mousakka! I don't know whether I agree with your comment about being more outgoing, he's just had the liberty of not being the Sovereign, that's a very different job, and it's pretty restrictive.
A fine comment Ali 👍

King Charles III not only gave a very good mindful speech, he made several key points. Firstly, Camilla will be Queen Camilla. Secondly, William is his heir and will assume all the roles he assumed as Prince of Wales. Finally, he did not address Harry and Meghan as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He also never mentioned that they would have a working role in the royal family, and specifically said that ". . . as they continue to build their lives overseas". All the nonsense put out about the HRH and Prince and Princess titles for their children makes no sense given the parents will not be working royals nor are they HRH's. In addition, I suspect it is questionable if they will remain Duke and Duchess.
HM King speech was very inspiring, and his love and thankfulness to his mother is amazing.
