Should house/home boilers have a sight glass in the system or just commercial units?

Are steam boilers the only boilers with a sight glass?

I have an OLD 1925 burnham furnace that looks like the blob. It extremely hard for me to know how much water is in it on a consistent basis. Right now the sight glass shows full but I just drained the furnace. I'll wait a while to see if it goes down again

Yes! That's is an aquastat and this feature allows us to keep the boiler at a temperature set point when in standby. That way it is hot and ready to go when needed. For the class, we unfortunately don't go that far west for scheduled classes but we do offer custom classes. Feel free to check out wareboileruniversity.com for more info. Thanks for watching!

I must add that the operator needs to blow down the slight glass to know the actual level of the boiler. also, may I add that the alternative method of checking level are the Tri Cocks... Low should be water... middle should be water and steam mix and the upper should be steam.. be sure to blow these clear regularly.
