No extra storage to the boats yet. But you can claim an island that you clear out by placing a marker down. This will allow you to build there. Also the npcs don't spawn back once you've cleared an island. The military backpack you found gives you another row of inventory on your character. The bolt action rifle is also a really good weapon.
Make sure you sleep by 19:00 each night to take advantage of the maximum time of sunlight during the day otherwise it won't allow you to sleep until the time you slept the night before. Which means you will have to force yourself to stay awake all night to get to the next morning and basically reset your sleep time. You mentioned leaving 1 item in containers and it also works for gas and chemical containers, wood boxes, leather couches, tires. Scavenge each item 50-90%. Wood hit 3x and stop. Washer machines scavenge 90%. In order to reset them you have to both log off the world to main menu and log back in.

Fooster the trader has like an ore locator you can trade for. You need batteries for it as well so make sure you pick some up. You can select which ore you want and it'll kind of like guide you in as you swim.

I wonder if you're just able to either build or move a storage box on to the boat, a bit like how in Myst you could pick up and place the lockers into the back of the pick up trucks. Or even drop the items into the boat itself, But then again i'm not sure if it will no clip through the boat.🤔

Make Fish traps and place them further out from shore, not sure why but mine filled faster than when I had them inshore. 2. Save crabs and shellfish as they form part of a great recipe, same with bird meat and mushrooms. Lemons, strawberry and lettuce make salads. 3. You need to manufacture the Stove to do items in 2. 4. Lung boosters help extend breath underwater but I'm sure I've noticed my air tank deplete slower. 5. Get the Underwater Scooter, it helps to get down in deeper water faster and uses little power if you pulse it by clicking between spurges of speed. Barter for it with Diamond rings, coins and fresh fish. 6. You can't boost boat storage yet but need level 3 in research bench for military backpack unless you find the blueprint!!!! 7. Grow, grow, grow, I can't say it enough! Get cotton on the go in large quantities as they and wood make grow beds. Then make grow sections for lemons, potatoes, strawberries, lettuce, bushes. This will increase your sustainability and free inventory up for more valuable items. 8. Excess scrap metal? Great, get crafting defence walls and cut the island off between rocks; I walled off my base along the shore and back up to the large rock in the middle. Raids tend to come from the front but I created barricades and a no mans land strip so while they bob about in the water I pick them off from the roof. I think raids need nurfing a tad as they are too much early game. I'll leave it there for now and see how you get on in game. Enjoy!

They do now. Must have been updated since this video ad in playing currently and they definitely respawn now. And sharks are way more dangerous too
