Last week we toured Phrozen’s HQ in Taiwan!
While visiting we got hands-on experience with some pre-production versions of their new Arco printer. We spent 48 hours intensively printing, testing, and filming.
We are excited about our GammaMaster Nozzle collaboration with Phrozen and the ongoing Arco Stretch Goal campaign. Let us know your thoughts and what you want to see when we get Arco in Florida for more in-depth testing and analysis!
Oh dang, you go Slice!
oh wow!!! this is looking good for their first jump into FDM
Uncle Jesse, are you going to be reviewing this printer? Thats honestly what im waiting on to decide if i will buy it
Mr Jessy plz review
Yes review
We thought so too!
It looks like a really solid printer. 300 cubed build volume is nice. Chroma Kit will make for good competition. If it performs like a premium printer with few issues, it has a lot going for it. Kickstarter can always feel a bit sketchy, but it's obvious the printer will get made at least. Plus if Slice is willing to partner, it can't be too bad. Also cool they are Taiwan based. Definitely look forward to reviews.
After all that announcing it would be nice to have a review from somebody who isnt involved in pushing the product. I like the size and dont care much about a AMS but only 300° heatbreak ,no input shaping and only one motor for bed screws is putting me off.
Lovely printer
I like the heavy duty appearance and the rail design!
It's definitely heavy duty and very rugged. The build quality was immediately noticeable when we saw the machine for the first time. -Peyton
I like the stationary bed. I’m glad that auto leveling was addressed. I’m curious what other sensors are employed in the Arco. Definitely interested.
The screen, placed at the bottom and tilted vertically, is in my opinion a very bad idea! It will be difficult to use and see anything when standing in front of the printer, which is the most common position most of the time...
how does it compare to the bamboo lap printer?
To those who think this printer is a copy of bambu lab printers. " It's not same, but they look same..same but not same. "All core xy printers will look similar.
People aren't just comparing the core xy aspect. They're comparing the multi material systems and how similarly they look as a whole.
The print waste into object feature is really nice solution other AMS style systems are using and should be the norm. All I want to know is... 0.2 nozzle option in the future?
I got to say. I really like that idea with converting the purge block to something useful that you was planning on painting anyway. kind of concerned with the software side of it. I hope it performs better then the palette pro? I still like the idea of a tool changer for true multi material. I want to print PETG with TPU in one print if they can stick.
It looks like a solid machine, I hope it performs well! More options are always great.
Our first impressions were positive! We're looking forward to getting more hands-on time with Arco once we receive units to our HQ in Florida.
What are realistic enclosure temperatures? Im asking because half of the heat emitting surface, the underside of the bed, isn't in the build chamber but recessed into the frame
Phrozen has indicated so far that enclosure temperatures can reach at least 10°C above room temperature. They have documented some of their testing in the Arco Launch Facebook Group.
Will the temperature automatically change when a different filament switches into place? Does it have wifi with an app to control from our phone? Imput shaping? Is one of them a sub $500 beginner friendly? We all start somewhere.
from what i saw in phrozen's slicer demo, they will have an option to select "colour A" and say to print at 200 degrees, while printing "colour B" at 260 degrees. It also allows you to change the print speed of each filament in the chroma kit too.
Holy shit so jealous you guys got to play with it before all of us!!!
We enjoyed printing with it, we only wish we had more time! We're looking forward to receiving Arco here in Florida so that we can really put the printer to the test.
Very strange video "it has unique technology, but I don't know what it is because it is patented"...fantastic.
Wouldn't a patent mean that it is, well, public? Isn't that the sole reason why coca cola never patented its formulated, so they can keep it secret and the patent cant expire?
If i had to guess, strain gauge or piezo elements, either in the toolhead or at the bed mounts.
Think if you could choose the file the purge block was going to be. So you get two usable prints. But the other is just a waste color product
I would absolutely love it if they make the chroma kit compatibe with klipper so i can use it on my vorons and stuff
If you dont mind the fact that you need a buffer, you can simply use a ercf or annex trad rack. They do exactly the same thing minus rewinding the spool and being a dry box. A annex trad rack for example can be built for less than 100 dollars. Benefits are obviously the price, you can add as many colours as you want, especially on the trad rack you have no limitations, and can use cardboard spools. Downsides are of course no dry box, no spool rewinding, you have to build it yourself.
The reliability of colour changes of the arco is the same as the bambu, a filament cutter, at least it was mentioned in the video. So pretty much a 1 to 1 copy of the system bambu lab uses
Creality is supposedly announcing their klipper compatible multimaterial system this week.
Does the Arco use Volcano size nozzles? Is Slice planning to make a Volcano version of the GammaMaster?
Arco uses nozzles with the same thread length as "volcano" nozzles, 14 mm. The cusom, co-branded version of GammaMaster for the Arco stretch goal will be the same. You can see it at 04:22
What no Lidar, no resonance compensation built in?
What makes you think that they don't have resonance compensation built in ?
Looks good but only 300c nozzle no heated chamber...so for technical materials less qidi
Your Pikachu is different, just like Benchy!😅
love slice engineering, as a resident fl man myself, i always wish to visit and witness the the men and women that make up the company
Thank you for your support! Maybe we can host a 3D printing meet and greet someday?
If you do, im in! @@SliceEngineering
Purgeblock LEGOs!
That's a fun idea! We'll pass it along to the Phrozen R&D team!
It hurts to see lead screws instead of ballscrews
Objective review I'm sure :D
so its a voron with ams
Nope, the gantry can't tram as all 4 z screws are run off one stepper, so the entire point of the Voron's flying gantry is lost.
@@robhall5622only very few pre built printers have a true self leveling bed. The twotrees sk1 has a 3 point bed leveling, magneto x has a 4 point bed leveling, the qidi q1 has 2 point bed tilt, the elegoo orange storm giga has probably 2 point gantry tilt (hopefully), sovol sv07 has 2 point gantry tilt, formbot Marathon 3 point bed, formbot troodon series are essentially pre built vorons with rrf instead of klipper. But most core xy nowadays have three z leadscrews, in the case of the arco 4 for the gantry, so you could probably add that feature, if they haven't done the creality move and removed the necessary modules from klipper. If so, can you add them back, or even update klipper to the mainline fork?
Plz tell them to use default klipper screen!!!!!!!! All other companies make horrible randotions of klipper screen. Klipper screen is best. Like the peopoly magneto x
It seems to resemble the Voron - with a Slice nozzle. I’m not seeing the Wow factor
My two cents: It’s clear Phrozen took inspiration from Voron, but what I think makes it unique is that it’s designed to work out of the box.
The performance of Voron without the time and hassle of building one for people who are not interested in that.
Plus, that’s not getting into the multicolor capabilities. The Slice nozzle is a stretch goal for the campaign as an added bonus for backers!
But why should I buy a beta machine? They say by themselves that things are not final yet. I would love a final screen and things are set in stone and not gambled.
The printer is currently on Kickstarter. Phrozen has indicated that the printers are slated to move into production around May, so final tweaks and improvements are being made based on community feedback before they start mass production.
It is not uncommon for a Kickstarter campaign to showcase a Beta unit since the purpose of Kickstarter is to fund the first round of production. The machine delivered to backers will not be a Beta version, but the first production version of Arco.
Pretty strange tbh... Looks ok, but the color option is worst than bqmbu's solution... That volcano hotend will hold waaaay more melted material, and you have to purge it after each swap, there is no workaround, longer melt zone will result way more purge.
Well it is still not there, this printer should have been shipped out to you tube content creators! on every print it been doing is a clip no lets do a full print like when Bambu launched SO until it gets shipped out and the kick starters start showing print, print issues Etc... I am not backing it I pulled out due to fact there now proof of what the printer can do with color, speed and above all quality
Man you're really trying to sell this hardcore... even with the stuff you know sucks but you still find a positive 😌
isn't the arco just a bigger clone of p1p?
Over Priced with a unrealistic print speed that you will never print at like all other Core XY printers in multi color, If you want quality prints 300 at most. What's worse is Phrozen "copied Co Prints Chromaset Branding" with naming with Phrozen Chromaset oooohhh that's original Guys. May as well have call it the Phrozen Lab AMS. Like it looks Solid, Good Frame, Proper Linear Rails etc but that s basically it.
Just look up the patent
My first impression is it’s just a Bambu Copy lol😂
Other than the fact that it’s CoreXY, moves fast, and has a sleek design, personally I think they feel quite different from one another in practice.
Arco feels very rugged. You can tell immediately when you see it for the first time. The low center of gravity only adds to the effect.
It essentially is, it's the first real machine to directly compete with Bambu while leveraging the gantry design from Voron. What most of these companies don't know is it's not the speed or even 4 color AMS that sells the Bambu. It's the ability to relatively flawlessly print anything without any setup or calibration. I have reverted to not even performing filament calibration and my prints are great. I set 0.02 PA for every filament and run eSun stock profile. It still prints better than days of testing, tweaking, and calibration built profiles.
The gantry is only superficially like a Voron 2.4, as it only has 1 stepper running all 4 z screws via belts, so it can't auto tram the gantry to make it parallel to the bed.
No pretty different and most important it is open Klipper and not stohlen closed Klipper
Well Its not only larger but the bed doesnt move either.
Focussing on hardware over UX is a bad move imo. This is an obvious BL clone and the BL machines are so good because their user experience is excellent
This unit needs to exceed the capabilities of Bambu Labs machines, not just meet them. The size and build quality looks good, but the AMS clone should offer more…5 reels? The speed is approximately the same, not better. Other than open source, what is the benefit? Price? Customer service? There are many me too products in the category…but this x-y machine has a moving target. To succeed here, Phrozen needs to offer something better than what exists…don’t compete on price! I’m hoping this is successful!
" Hey look ! The king has arrived with his judgement! Let's all listen ! " Said no one ever. So demanding... Whatever you want Mr king. Go build one jackass if you are such an expert.
@@aarrodri 😂😂
People have been asking for a Bambu XL since the day thrir first machine came out, and complaining about their closed ecosystem just as long.
By answering those 2 demands, as long as the hardware is solid, this machine will do just fine.
@@aarrodri Hey, Andrew! You looked cool in the video, especially the mask.
A lot of marketing, zero showing, with this printer
Bah, nothing new here.
Agreed, I also take issue with multi-million dollar companies using a Kickstarter when they clearly don't need it. They are just using for hype and to build a pre-order count. I won't support stuff like this. Show me real innovation, or forget it.
Putting printers on concrete pavers isn't to lower the centre of gravity, Slice.
Searching various patent listings gives zero hits for Phrozen having any patents linked to bed levelling. Also, the fact something is patented doesn't mean you aren't allowed to know anything about it, quite the opposite, so can you please explain what is patented?
We use concrete pavers under printers to dampen vibrations the printer experiences and generates during printing-partially by adding mass and lowering the center of gravity of the setup.
The comparison to Arco was to illustrate that the printer is bottom-heavy, it almost has a built-in, secured paver at the bottom to help hold the printer stable while the printhead is moving.
Regarding bed leveling, during the limited time we had working with the printer, we did not get the chance to ask further questions about how it works. Once we get Arco to our office in Florida for more intensive testing, we plan to conduct more thorough testing of the bed leveling system.
@@SliceEngineeringthat's not what the paver does. Unless you're bolting the printer to the concrete slab, it doesn't have any effect on the mass or centre of gravity of the printer as it's external to the printer and they aren't rigidly coupled. The point of the paver is to physically decouple the printer from the work surface to prevent resonance harmonics which cause the table to act as an amplifier for the vibrations the printer makes, and to work effectivly the paver should be sat on something that can deform elastically, like foam.
On the bed levelling, your answer makes sense, but is at total odds with what is said in the video. "I wasn't able to get a whole lot of info about the way their bed levelling works because it's patented" is not the same as "we did not get the chance to ask further questions about how it works", and because something is patented doesn't mean it's secret, and various patent database searches has shown Phrozen own zero patents related to bed levelling on an FDM printer.
Nothing about the slicer……colorchange……..😂
These print speed claims are always ridiculous. That rarely ever comes into effect, and when it does the quality is horrible. It's like printing a benchy. I just don't. Haven't ever for calibrations. It's not an account test for My prints
Hehe exactly. Unfortunately I have heard about not great phrozen support in case of hardware issues with their resin printers, And it’s hard to find that on yt.
So you just copied Bambu Labs. Good luck with that.
Such a heavy sales pitch. Hard to believe anything he says. How about showing print quality at normal and fast speeds for a range of filaments and models?
We plan to conduct more rigorous testing once we receive printers to our HQ in Florida, comparing materials at different speed levels is a great video idea!
For this first impressions video, we recorded it at Phrozen's HQ in Taiwan last week, and due to the nature of international travel and filming logistics for this video (and a couple more we have coming soon), we only had about 48 hours of hands-on time with the printer.
We wanted to show as much of the printer as we could to announce the stretch goal collaboration, and we have further testing planned for the future.
Are there any other tests or videos you'd like to see with Arco once we get our machine?
@SliceEngineering TPU, Petg and PLA plus are the main ideas but part strength and visual quality are more important than speed. Who cares about a nasty looking inaccurate weak print that comes out fast? I call those junk prints. We print to make great prints period. Strong accurate and looking great. Talk about not being forced to send files thru foreign servers and IP protection. Are these built in Taiwan or China?
RIP Bambu lab. They wont be around next year with all the open source klipper based printers on the market as competition. BL already lowered the price of their printers twice just to stay competitive lol. Why buy closed source bambu lab with no customer support when you get get all the same but with open source and real customer service.
Sure thing bot. Why go with the best product of the year and revolutionary technology when I have have my open source sub par Creality !? /S
@@aarrodrilmao name one thing revolutionary about any bambu lab product. They brought nothing new or revolutionary to the 3d printing market. Everything about their printers already existed on other printers.
Bad bambu bot.
"RIP bambu lab" 😂😂 dude chill out.
Talking about customer support. Arco has 20 agents per the video slice posted. How well do you think they will keep up with support tickets compared to Bambu? Lol I don't need a crystal ball to see that they are going to have major problems keeping up with the number of tickets they get. From looking at the unit, I bet the cable chain is the first thing to break and need replaced. Looks super flimsy. How "Real" can their customer service be with 20 people covering a product that is sold internationally?
@@Rebelgod420420 A shit ton better than bambu lab lmao. All it takes is 1 person to answer a hundred tickets a day. I've been doing it for years. Bambu lab could have a thousand people in customer servicee and they would still have a 3 week lead on answering. It's because bambu lab simply doesn't give a shit about customer service.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being "shoortstaffed". Its just the fact that they don't care.
YO ANOTHER COPY OF BAMBU ahahahahahaha
Jesus Christ man get rid of the Mask
He has to sell it though, can't you tell? So he can get those nozzles sold.
I sort had gotten used to a life without the crazies. But apparently they did not all perish.
Please learn about noise and vibration to understand concepts of resonance and conducted or radiated noise which influence print technology.
Centre of gravity is not remotely a consideration.
Why is so ugly compared to Bambu Lab?
Dude wearing mask. I'm out
Speak It! 😂 If they haven’t figured out by now that masks don’t work I don’t think I can trust their critical thinking skills….
Oh no! Anyway.. go away..
@lipinskirl but. They do?
@@JohnSmith-rt5yq 😂 Ok if you say so… But No they dont. The KN95 mask will stop 95% of >5nm particles. Surgical masks will stop 75% of >20nm particles. BUT Covid is
I hate to bring this to you, but if anyone wearing mask in a company, means you will not buy their products, then you cannot buy anything from Asia. For like 50 years or whatever. I hate to see you go, but I guess we will never see you again then?
