- Surfing OPENING DAY at Blacks Beach with Kolohe Andino. San Diego got its first proper winter swell on November 5, 2021 and Black's Beach had some bombs. We starting shooting around 4:30 PM when the tide switched and shot until dark. Kolohe Andino was out along with local pros including Johnny Noris and others.

Agree with rider below, don't drop in on me, dont snake people trying to find their way and surf whenever, however, wherever and with whomever you like. You only get better around better riders. Any wave rider that says they didn't learn from being around other surfers full of it. Blacks is so much fun always some waves out there when in SD.
The guy on the blue surfboard knows that wave and has good speed on his high line -

I reckon that the tide and angle was about a good as you could ask for, when this was being filmed...
But for ideal shape and hollowness, you want a bit more size, perhaps a longer period, and nice offshore wind, or something closer to being "glassy". Not every day down there is pure magic. But it's usually better than the other spots nearby, at least.

a long time ago we used to surf blacks in the winter when there was no swell in the water. On a big north swell surf pipes or Swamis or Cardiff reef.
