Recently upgraded me botherboard to a B550 Gigabyte Gaming X and Im happy to say that I covered nearly every step you described in your video. Pairs nicely with me 5800x. Thanks Mike and Kath
These videos are always important because many people neglect the fact that there are drivers in addition to the video card. Always Thumbs Up to you Mike! 👍👌
Adopting the AM4 platform (MSI B450M Mortar) in 2018 was the smartest gaming PC decision I ever made. I am now an expert after going from an R5 2400G to a R7 2700 to a 5600X and finally to a 5600X3D! lol
what about getting the chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer? Wouldn't you miss out on any tweaks the mobo maker might have made to enhance their mobo?
it is very rare that they make any tweaks to the drivers as it would need to be resigned and submitted to microsoft to get it validated so defender or core protection doesn't flag it
Just done very same on itx build as am4/rx5700xt setup. You have reminded me the need to chk main pc is up todate. One query I had was what do the entries on right of the driver table refer to? Thanks Mike and Kath 🐈👍
The AMD GPIO driver is a chipset component that's essential for a system's operation. A GPIO (general-purpose input/output) port can handle both incoming and outgoing digital signals. For example, it can receive ON/OFF signals from switches and digital readings from sensors, and then communicate that information to the CPU. PSP driver is the platform security processor and controls the TPM stuff. PPM driver is a way to link the internal and external devices and componets and let them communicate with each other to make the system more responsive
@@mikesunboxing So these are as important as the first three for the motherboard to operate. Thanks Mike as I wondered if more to do with amd reporting. Little did I know!
The only thing Amd updated compared to the last update is AMD Ryzen power plan which i never use anyway. Good video though keeping people updated. Also new Asus bios update is now out.
@@mikesunboxing Windows updates them automatically too (if permitted) but are usually much older than those from AMD site. Same goes for MB manufacturer's sites. Some recommend updating chipset driver before updating BIOS but after should be done too. As you know, drivers are supplied to MS by manufacturer and it takes time for MS to check and certify them. Those from MS are also often "short" and are missing some features like control.
Over the years the Motherboard manufacturers figured out that a lot of people were not doing something like this video suggests. This is why most boards today ship with a deployment package that lets you click radio buttons to install drivers. I dont normally use these install utilities. Most try to slip some useless Antivirus like MCafee or Norton into the install process. They are all suspect as to what they collect off your machine and when and why.

yeah its a good question. to some extent it is if you have things like msi center or asus armoury crate that periodically check, but i agree it needs to be more tightly integrated into windows or windows update
@@mikesunboxing I had that happen few times, same error as with some GPU drivers a while ago. Error log says "Directory not found" although C:\AMD was created when .exe was unpacked.

Good question, but most of the AMD OC settings can be saved or exported to a file, and presumably imported after the update, if needed.
