On Ann Readon's channel, she guesses there was probably a translation error/misunderstanding that resulted in this swap. Swapping the two out actually does result in the correct product, exactly as shown.
But if it was, why add the vinegar??? Emmy said so herself, vinegar would not help the jelly process plus I doubt it would taste good.

@@nikkikawase1891 Because when Ann Reardon did it, she swapped out the salt for gelatin, which is unaffected by acid, AND she decided to omit the vinegar because she didn't care much for the taste in the first attempt she did at making the pear jelly.

When we lived in Switzerland it was common to add a quince to batches of fruit lacking sufficient pectin of their own like berries for example.
Maybe they used a quince in the tiktok video? Quinces do look like pears, after all.

In the Netherlands limonade (lemonade) is basically a syrup which you mix with water. The syrup can be any flavor.
American children sell lemonade because, if you have access to a lemon tree, it can essentially be made at home for free.

Emmy, FFR, agar agar works fine in acidic liquids. That's a primary benefit of using it instead of gelatin, that regularly fails in acidic conditions. The difference is you have to bloom agar agar in a neutral solution, then you add it to the acidic solution.
In the Netherlands limonade (lemonade) is sugary syrup you dilute with water do drink. So yet something else altogether. 😅
Were I live in the UK and basically any lemon drink is lemonade, cloudy lemonade, sprite, 7 up is all lemonade

I'm curious to see you make the "prison" laffy taffy. Similar to your coffee creamer cheesecake. The video I first saw on youtube. He only used three ingredients.
Crush soda instant package
1 container of coffee creamer, and
1 small amount of water.
He poured the creamer and crush powder into a bowl and added water to make it pliable, and kept needing the mixture until it go smooth on the outside and was able to roll it into small cylinders and cut then into bite size pieces.

I swear emmy is so cute and I love watching her videos bc she makes me feel like I could actually make the recipes she does bc she explains everything in a way almost anyone will understand. She is definitely one of my favorite youtubers along with Stephanie Soo. Also it's so cute seeing her reaction to things and her laugh is contagious I catch myself laughing and getting excited when she does in the videos. She is so entertaining hopefully she never quits doing youtube!
This sort of reminded me of one of the things my Mom loved making with pears.
Pear Honey is made with equal amounts of pears, sugar, & pineapple juice.
You can also do a version with crushed canned pineapple.
Everything gets stirred together in a pot over med/high heat until it boils, make sure to keep stirring so it doesn't scorch. When it reaches full boil reduce heat and keep cooking it until it starts getting to the texture and color of honey (usually 2-3 hours). The longer you cook it the thicker it gets. My Mom loved it on toast, biscuits, and pound cake. You can also can it if you want to make larger batches. I think her small batches made 4 pints and it was 1 cup of each ingredient. I hope you give it a try sometime.

Well done. I called this one out on TikTok despite the opposition. The TikTokker clearly switched agar/gelatine for salt.
I'm glad Emmy has sponsorship, but I'd warn anyone NOT to buy from glassesusa. They website is badly designed; you can only exchange glasses, you can't just get a refund; they send multiples sales emails a DAY while you're waiting for your glasses to arrive, which takes entirely too long; the system doesn't update you properly with the order status; support is polite enough but NO help. I've gotten three pairs of glasses I couldn't see through and can't get proper help. Just buy your glasses from your doctor or at the mall. What you spend in money you'll save in time and frustration.

In relation to Agar Agar and acidic liquids, I found this on a site that has lots of information on using Agar Agar. "Agar does not hydrate well in acidic liquids, making gelling difficult. To get around this issue, first hydrate the agar in a neutral liquid and then add it to the acidic liquid." This method can also to used when the liquid you want to gel cannot be boiled to activate the Agar Agar. Prepare the Agar Agar in a little water and then add to the warmed liquid to be gelled (above 45 deg C).

We have a desert made with pears in Portugal that is delicious. Pears are cooked whole and peeled in water with sugar and Port wine. We let them simmer for a long time till they get a beautiful deep color and take them out. Then we allow the liquid to evaporate until it thickens a bit and pour it over the pears. It's scrumptious, you should try it if you haven't already. It's called Pêras Bêbedas or Drunk Pears
