I’ve been reading about these guitars for decades and heard them in recordings, but to have an actual demo video just made their concepts explode in my mind. Thank you again, Bart!
The Y guitar reminds me of church bells and the ringing of iron railing. For me it evokes strong memories of visiting Grandma's house, where everything in a very large radius is old.
The range of innovations and ideas you have explored on such a standardized instrument as the guitar, it's simply amazing! Plus, everything here looks not too complicated nor expensive to build (although I suspect there is a long process of trial and error behind each one of those guitars)!
Really interesting and I love playing skills. The sound of the base had me foxed for a while. Couldn't place what tune it reminded me of. Got stuck on "Smoke On The Water" till I realised that it was only a couple of notes but it was "Money For Nothing"
It would be interesting to combine the Y guitar with a non 12tet tuning to match the harmonics. I do love how it sounds as is, though. I'd also love to hear the foil bass with another pickup placed normally, with a blend pot to mix the two pickup signals together.
Thanks to all for generous comments! Detector de Gados, in response to your question about making a video devoted to acoustic guitar-like instruments -- well, hopefully one of these days! I have at least a couple of other topics I'm hoping to cover in a videos to come, and after that, a revisit to guitars focusing on acoustic might be worthwhile. Meanwhile, I've posted a short write-up on guitar-likes here: barthopkin.com/guitar-like-things/. Much of what's discussed there covers ground similar to what's covered in the Guitar-like Things video, but not all.

Wow, the foil-bass had a timbre almost like a double reed instrument. Very different character from digital or tube distortion.

4:21 You may have helped me realise why I don't like the sound of nylon strings.
Whoa I love the inharmonic ring on that Y guitar!!! Your book is amazing, by the way, it inspired me to get into microtonality and DIY instruments

Thank you. Inspiration galore.

Hey Bart! Could you a video demonstrating the acoustic ones?

Beautiful!!
So many great ideas and designs here. Love the Y string and the foil. Good value - within my budget!
Love the 'light metal' bass guitar at the end, killer tone!
Genius
And, by the way: the classical-like neck and fretboard makes all those weird electric guitars even weirder!
