- David Mamet can always be counted on to have a provocative idea or two up his sleeve, and that's certainly the case with his newest play, Race, which officially opens at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on December 6 under the playwright's direction. The show concerns a firm of racially integrated lawyers that must defend a wealthy white man accused of a vicious crime. TheaterMania spoke with the play's four stars, James Spader, Kerry Washington, David Alan Grier, and Richard Thomas, about the play and working with Mamet.

I think it's fantastic that Mamet directed his own work. That is often where the best work is created, when the playwright is directly involved in the creation in their pieces.
Put the play on the channel
I saw it last night! James Spader aced it but I have a bone to pick with Mamet in terms of the play's content and what I felt he was trying to say.
Overall I'm glad I saw it.

Luckily they're acting because not all black men and women hate white people, and vice versa. A lot are married in a interracial marriage with kids for life. They are best friends, work together, pray foe each other. And the legal system is fair to everyone because the judges have to go by the laws of the land. No favorites over any ethnicity. There's black men and women lawyers and judges. And the person who wrote that line is wrong. No, not all black men and women don't hate white people, as the same goes for every race. There's people who are the same race who hate each other for many other reasons. Unfortunately, t.v. and movies, social media knows how to brainwash or program people to love or hate or judge others before even meeting that person that's a different race than you and you get to know someone new and you genuinely like that person from another race. The media can send the wrong message, and people get convinced easily. It's like bad rumors or gossip about each other. That's one of the reasons people don't always get along. Be nice! They might lend you money or their car! Lol
