Helen Slater bought a innocence and charm that was very hard to deny! They chose the right lady for the "maiden of steel"! She is still just as charming today as she was when first cast for "Supergirl". She still has that girl next door appeal that is rare as a platinum mine!
When I think of Helen Slater to Me: I can hear the classic Country Music Song, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD 🌎 That said it for me when I first saw her at 6 years old in the movie and It still says it for me today at 35 years old. BEST GIRL FOREVER AND EVER ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for posting this!!
I thought she was a knockout too when she was Supergirl, but I didn't know it was a flop. I saw a video of her in 2007 and she is still hot - Go Helen!
She was amazing to fans to many people around the world even though the floped in 1984 but video viewers and television aduces who love it not just superman but her even to this day
Most people don't know this, but Helen Slater was originally born a brunette. She has shown her real hair once when she was filming a L'Oreal commercial. Just thought you guys might want to know. :)
It's funny how some people view this movie as a flop. It's one of my all-time favorite films! You can't watch expecting an Oscar quality movie. Hell yeah, it's cheesy, but it's great cheese! The humour is a gas, and you can't discard Helen Slater. She's awesome!
sylph-like, stunningly beautiful Helen was the perfect supergirl...i don't care what the critics say about the movie, it was a movie i enjoyed as a teen then and continue to enjoy as an adult now....and Helen has an angel-like voice to boot!! a very classy, intelligent and respectable lady, quite unlike the bimbos of today's Hollywood......
Also, her real name is Helen Schlicter, not Slater. I think "Slater" is a stage name. She used to date Christian Slater and they were into each other but they broke up in the 80s. I knew she used to be a brunette but she looks like she was born blonde and looks better blonde. To bad C Reeve screwed the movie up by not making a cameo like they planned. I liked Reeve but he could have boosted the movie with a cameo in this film.
I remember when the movie first came out, and Christopher Reeve was on the Tonight Show, and was asked if he had seen the movie and he said yes and he said Helen (as Supergirl) flies better than me ;)
At the end of the day Christopher Reeve = Superman (and Clark Kent) Helen Slater = Supergirl (Kara and Linda Lee) End of & 'Nuff said although did love what Dean Cain 'brought' to the Man of Steel in Lois and Clark and did enjoy Smallville but in terms of what they did as far as the Movies go, they did good. Loads of Love to Helen and RIP Chris
Today's SUPERGIRL is Superman's Cousin as herself Kara of Argo City and Kara Kent of Smallville, KS (Played by Laura Vandervoort) of the SMALLVILLE series. In case, that Zack Snyder is all finished directing M.O.S. I will like to know what will Helen Slater have to say about Henry Cavill being "Superman". I hope if Zack Snyder does the Man of Steel sequel that has Kara Zor-El or doing the spin off to be rebooted.
@farcher3 The film had more problems than Chris Reeve not being in the film. They had star perfomers like Peter O'Toole, and Faye Dunawaye, and yet they completely messed up the who heritage of the characters, including her origin, powers and any sense of drama. The script needed to be tightened up before it was ever filmed, and the villains needed to be far stronger. There was no drama.. A real pity.
@gandy74, completely agree. What's weird is I think the younger people of today somehow think that plastic-looking, Mary Kate and Ashley types are the only way a woman/girl can look beautiful. (I even read a comment from someone that basically said that women of past decades weren't as pretty as the girls of today.) They don't seem to get that ladies can be absolute knockouts, even moreso, when they're not covered in 3-inchs layers of spackle and haven't had more surgeries than the cat-lady.
@hardsixteenyeah Maybe. But then again the plots for Superman 3 & 4 were not that great. The best part of S3 that was good was Sups figting Clark Kent. the Salkands who were running the Superman series were cruel people and punished G Hackman and M Kidder for speaking against them. Maybe they wanted control over Reeve too and maybe he was afraid of them. I want a make a new 'Supergirl' with Brittany Snow or Blake Lively. New Superman, B Routh could guest star as Superman. What do you think?
I dunno how intelligent Brandon Routh is or Christopher Reeve was or Dean Cain for that matter, nor does it matter what the IQ of any of the actors that have played him since he was brought to TV of Movie screens. It's about whether they have the physical qualities and the acting tallents to play the part. I'll be interested to see The Man Of Steel to see whether Cavil can do a better follow up to the Reeve era movies. Superman Returns was just awful I'm afraid and it was about more than Routh.
*laughs* I think you mean "Schlacter", because that's her legal name. :) As for C. Reeve being in the movie. I'm not too sure, considering that Superman III wasn't all that good, and Superman IV was a disaster. Who knows? *shrugs*

I think the casting of Slater was almost as inspired as the casting of Reeve: she really does look the part.
Such beauty!
its on the supergirl limited edition numbered dvd issued by anchor bay entertainment in 2000....not on any other supergirl dvd...
so cute and gentle

I agree, when I see Helen, I see Supergirl, it's a shame she didn't make any more Supergirl movies

Did she do this befor or after she was in The Secret of My Success with Michael J Fox, or what ever its called or am I getting totally mixed up?
Before.
Helen Slater was perfectly cast as Supergirl. Can you imagine if they had made Britney Spears into Supergirl? Ugh.
Where is this documentary available? Is it on any edition of the Supergirl DVD?
Lynn Stallmaster was a genius to cast both Christopher Reeve and Helen Slater. And Lynn was also right Helen Slater was a knock out !
Oh I love this :)
Listen to the music very carefully starting at 0:04 to 0:24. It sounds JUST like the new Man of steel trailer music!
she remind me of anne frank, blonde anne frank
Very sad, but very true
You can hear Helen's distinctive accent(Eastern Long Island)
this movie was made when I was born

exactly. Just look at Andrew Garfield cast as Spiderman or Henry Cavil cast as Superman. They look waaaay different from their characters
Henry Cavill is actually really intelligent speaking sweet and humble, watch his interviews or comic con panel
LOL that's hilarious
