The flying effects here after the flower scene (not by the clouds) looks so real. They did a great job using one string. Helen will always be my supergirl...
wouldn't it be wonderful if people could really fly like that, I have dreams like that all the time! GREAT MOVIE! I love Faye Dunaway in this she made a great villain! she is the perfect witch!
So far, there were only 2 movies worthy of the name Superman: the '78 movie, and the Donner Cut of Superman II. Everything else was downhill for me. By the way: I'm hoping big for the reboot next year.
Wish you'd put in the finish...where SUPERGIRL gets sent to the Phantom Zone...and also, where she escapes! Showing a super-hero who's feminine was a big gamble for the producer. This movie was re-cut later on,and that improved it. But I liked the concept regardless.
Superman's always struck me as a character that would live that kind of life anyway, even if he were mortal. He's supposed to be an example for a much higher standard; that's why Siegel and Shuster used elements of both Jesus and Moses in his origin.
Its not just the ending, though; Superman's character is defined by his deliberate choices to make the calls no one else will. If it came down to lying, even for a "greater purpose", he wouldn't do it. Instead, he'd tell the truth, but also use every one of his powers to protect innocents from the villains' responses. He doesn't hold to an "ends justify the means" mentality, like Batman or The Punisher. He also doesn't fight crime for popularity or recognition; he does it because it needs doing.
I'm hoping "Man of Steel" will turn out well, but having both Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan involved doesn't sit right with me. Superman is supposed to be a beacon of hope and light, and an example for what we should be if we could. I don't want to see some darkened, morally-relative version of the story.
I was in this film as an extra in 1984 at pinewood studio's the set was next to another set for a film called 'Last days of pompeii"....Who had Ned beatty who was in "Superman"..We were paid quite a lot of money on the Pompeii film for wearing body makeup to make us look dark skinned...We got paid about £120 a day which in 1984 was quite a lot of money compared to now....But it was too hot,it was summer and we had to wait around whilst they set up the shots which sometimes was hours and we seated alot with the body makeup on...My mother knew the assistant director working on the 'Supergirl" film in the next lot a whole road had been constructed with a cross roads for the supergirl film....Peter cook walked past me at lunch time one day....I did not know helen slater but i saw her on the set the days they filmed....I can remember being in two shots one where some cars crash into each other at the cross roads,i was on a skateboard,The other shot was when the mountain decends, whilst they filmed this mountain decending i watched them filming the stop motion effect of the mountain decending...They had a screen of glass with a picture on it of the mountain..it was lined up with the background of the set as you went to the end of the road set...there were cars no bigger than my hand to give the affect of the road going on into the distance....The mountain decending was shot frame by frame and we were told to freeze each time the director called out cut, then when he shouted action we would move again...I never spoke to Peter cook but now i regret it because he was one of my inspirations from a child. He inspired me to do comedy....it was amazing working in pinewood on these films...In those days,i was young then (21)...I Never spoke to Helen so i did not know what she was like but from these interviews she is a lovely lady,The fact that she take time out to visit a comic con shows that she is a person who gives back to others...I was just crowd but i'm sure if i knew people then i could have got somewhere with my comedy at the time but i was more interested in playing in my band as a guitarist than comedy.I now write comedy and am writing a book called "Dead hilarious" I can not tell you what it is about because i know there are people out there who take ideas.I am now also working of creating film soundtracks also.Plus i am an artist you can see one of my pieces,it is my profile picture on here....If you wish to know more about being at pinewood in these films then ask...Peace and god bless.
seanmallory75 Hi sean, yes i do have one memory of mrs faye dunaway and it is this..As i was waiting on the pavement for the shot to be set up which was a shot of mrs faye dunaway in a vintage 1930's rolls rose car...he acted like she was The big i am actress as she was driven up the street,I can remember thinking to myself "who does she think she is"...After all she is only human like all of us and mortal....you see it has no effect if they act like that and you then ignore them...lol...She was a famous actress but so what, they should not forget that they are not anything better than any one else just because they are a famous actress or actor...People in the porfession seem to have a certain upper class attitude with acting, but not all....I'm quite a good judge of character and being psychic i tend to know instinctively what sort of a person someone truly is..But mrs faye dunaway was not hiding the fact that she thought she was the star of the whole film..The vibration i got from helen slater were completely different, she came across as very innocent/kind and down to earth...I never met her on the film, but only recently did i watch an interview with her and she was lovely, truly a genuine nice person who has not let her fame go to her head like some others...One thing is disliked about doing film crowd work was, there were all these extra's who acted like they were famous actors and actresses and they weren't at all, they were wonna be's...But were old failed actors and actresses who still thought they were something, sad really....I did love being in a few films when i was a child aswell as being in films again in the eighties...At one point i wanted to be an actor myself but i'm glad it did not happen...I'm glad that i am myself...I do comedy sketches now,if you wish to see any then let me know..I will be adding trailers of my work on youtube/vimeo so that people can get a glimpse of my work...But it isn't serious...It is now possible to create your own studio in your own house/flat etc with lights/backdrop/boom microphone...And do your own shows in your home...And then upload them,it's great...I love comedy it is universal and there are no real rules...You can create comedy out of anything...I also will be creating some music video's of a few concepts and putting up trailers of them too...Peace and god bless sean.
I can remember to this day actually regretting not talking to Peter cook as he passsed me when i was on my way to use the toilet in the bar in pinewood...He walked straight past me,if i had spoken to him at the time it would not have been to try and get in doing comedy because at that time i did not consider doing comedy,I was more interested in being a guitarist in a band i was in and i also did some roadie work with a band called 'Bauhaus" who got quite big in the eighties,so at the time i was only interested in doing music....But i have always been quite comical from when i was a child...I did not realise my potential for my gifts until i was older when i started doing my art again and started writing scripts/comedy sketches....i come from a generation who grew up playing by imagination so it helps when you want to be a writer...Peter cook was my main inspiration growing up in the sixties,He inspired me very much as a child to mimic him and copy his sense of humour...he was a genius at turning something quite mundane and serious into something hilarious...comedy is something were you work with the subject of seriousness and then turn it into something more ridiculous...Any form of concept can be turned into comedy...
Hi, I live just over 150miles from black park country park and was wondering about visiting the place this June/July 2016 and was told pinewood is located near by. Can you me which spot Helen slater was filmed so I can go and see?
In pinewood there are plots where various films were shot...It is difficult to explain where the plot is unless you know pinewood well....The film last days of pompeii was being filmed in the pit next to the super girl set....The super girl set is directly opposite a building where the bar is where all the famous actors and actresses drank/Drink...I'm not sure if they have tours of pinewood or not...it was such a long time ago i can't remember where the entrance gate is to where the set for super girl was.....There is a documentary about the film 'supergirl' on youtube...If that helps..
@TheDjmoore33 You think the average person in America, Japan, and wherever and Judges and Prisoners all dress the same way? The Superman movie showed Judges, ruling class and criminals sent to the phantom zone this movie is none of those groups.
@boredpersonthingy Superspeed would cause high wind speed and friction and water would be blown off and evaporated, didn't you see commercial where guy stuck his pants out the window to dry his pants except he made a mistake and they blew away. So they slowed the scene where you could see her at least not as bad as slow motion on $6 million dollar man.
@boredpersonthingy I mentioned $6 million Dollar man as an example of slow motion where scene was suppose to be happening faster than shown could have said Smallville scenes where Clark catches bullets or Kung Fu fight scenes in slow motion, was just an example okay.
I don't blame Jeannot Szwarc for the failure of the film. Instead, that mostly goes to the Salkinds, who behaved like paranoid control freaks when they ran the series. Ilya Salkind had some respect for the source material, but his father Alexander was all about money and marketing. The only reason the first film turned out so well was because of Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz. The second was okay, but far less brilliant, and the rest went downhill from there.
Colin, Thanks for your story ; I think it must have been great to be on the set of Supergirl. I definitely go to see on your youtube channel your videos . I am Italian but I am a connoisseur of the dark music and rock , I know and appreciate the Bauhaus. I asked you news about Faye Dunaway because I'm a big fan , I've always found a woman of great charm and talent and then what you have told me I regret a little but unfortunately I heard such and so many bad things about her and his way of behaving with people who obviously she was a vain and arrogant woman just like Selena: her character in the film Supergirl perhaps it's no coincidence that Ms. Dunaway has almost always played the role of bad, she was always an evil and ruthless harpy, probably she was good in the role of the bitch because it was really a bitch...however, I must also say that Dunaway in this film was really crappy from all points of view: acting, look, make-up.... It's not a compliment for her to say that she was perfect to play an evil witch. I do not think you could save anything of her in Supergirl: knowing that she was posing as a diva while filming Supergirl and she was a real tragedy for the entire film, makes me shiver. I do not surprise me the nice things you said about wonderful Helen Slater and great Peter Cook; I agree on everything especially it's evident from the video that Helen Slater were to be a very sweet girl.
I saw the entire film and I thought the actors were wasted in a so so script. There were so many villians that Supergirl could have fought that were more interesting. Helen Slater was the right actress but she needs another shot as the heroine. There were not enough super feats and Wonder Woman could have done what she did and she can handle magic better. The snide remark about Jehovah's Witnesses could have been left out since one could also say "Those damn witches" to mock a religion.
The flying effects here after the flower scene (not by the clouds) looks so real. They did a great job using one string. Helen will always be my supergirl...
i was crazy about this movie as a kid.watching it now,it seems so low budget, but i still love it.
Helen Slater will Always Be MY BEST GIRL FOREVER AND EVER❤️❤️❤️ There will Be NOBODY ELSE. Enough said.
wouldn't it be wonderful if people could really fly like that, I have dreams like that all the time! GREAT MOVIE! I love Faye Dunaway in this she made a great villain! she is the perfect witch!
great scene when she comes out of the lake. the music mkes it wondeful
Asi como Michelle Pfeifer es la mejor Gatubela,Helen Slater es la mejor y mas bella Supechica de la historia

@WiccanHighPriest0 So what is witchcraft if it isn't a religion or the activity of people based on a religion?
por fabor pueden doblarlo al español por fabor me traen bonitos recuerdos de mi niñez por fabor gracias
She was wearing a gown. How the heck did she gets dressed in a supergirl outfit?
Nice science ideas

Helen slatter was good as Supergirl but Melissa Benoist was the best as Supergirl ❤️
Helen Slater is the best Supergirl of all time!!!! Regardless of the issues the movie had it's a lot better than the CW Supergirl!!!!
You´re wrong. Laura Vandervoort was is and ever will be the best Kara Zor-el/Supergirl of all time !
@@DimitriYar It depends on each one's likes and Melissa Benoist is my fav and the most popular Supergirl ever. No offence😁
