    Oh, man... I really hate it when collectible guitars have non-reversible modifications done to them. However, if you're gonna mod it, mod it right - GO ALL OUT. This is an example of someone that did JUST THAT. This used to be a 1970s (1974) Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that came stock with 2 mini-humbuckers. It was then routed for a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge position and a middle humbucker pickup too. From there the bridge and tailpiece were ditched for a Kaher, two mini toggle switches added by the controls, 3-way toggle switch moved by the volume controls and a master volume installed in the toggle switches old place................ AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, a B-Bender was installed by routing out half of the back of the guitar. This has to be the most heavily modified, mutilated, destroyed Les Paul electric guitars that I have ever seen - and I love it!
    It really reminds me of that Les Paul Custom with that was routed for a humbucker in the neck, a mini-hum and a single coil in the two middle positions and a dog ear p90 in the bridge. I'd love to find that guitar one day. If you know it's whereabouts, I'd like to speak with you about reviewing it austin@troglysguitarshow.com. The world deserves to see it up close!
    Overall, this might be considered scaralige by most people's standards and I would NEVER do this to another deluxe... but what's done, is done so let's enjoy it! ROCK!

    If you're going to mod a guitar, you might as well go all out and make it a true one-of-a-kind piece. It's not traditional, but I bet it's a lot of fun!

      Is there a reason the guitarist you showed at the end of the video plays with his fly opened like that? Does it help his tone? I'll try anything at this point.

      I'm sure that who ever owned it like every other guitarists it was a tool to do a job. So it need to be modified a bit. Not knowing like everyone else that at some point that if it would have been placed in the case an put under the bed. Never to be seen touched or even played that it would be worth twice the purchase price.. that's why I don't play any of my guitar's why rick it. You never know could break a string or worse ...get finger prints on the Finnish....lol

    If this was owned/built/played by someone famous enough you all would absolutely love it. It’s not traditional, but when this was built the guitar wasn’t particularly desirable or rare in any way.
    Bottom line, it’s pretty cool, probably fun to play, and the damage has already been done and cannot be reversed. I’d rock.

      Well, that’s you’re opinion but since you said you all, you’re wrong. This is a piece of shit. There’s nothing cool about this (and I love Khalers), some foreigner got their hands on this guitar and a bunch of crap parts and through it all together with very little care. There’s a right and wrong way to make an outlandish piece like this. This is just a bunch of crap thrown on a les Paul. My sister could do that.

    • @Meditech509
      @Meditech509 6 лет назад +18

      NO no you are absolutely correct. If Van Halen had never become famous his frankenstrat would have been called a homemade hack job made by a person with no musical appreciation for their guitar.

    • @Iheartdgd
      @Iheartdgd 6 лет назад +3

      meditech eddies guitar is not even comparable to this... the frankenstrat was built w a specific function that works very well , and that many people copied and are still used to this day. Many famous pick ups including the ones you and I use are based off Van Halen’s work and that’s a fact. All this is, is a less Paul that someone threw a bunch of crap on. There’s nothing special or original about this. It’s a crappy les Paul that looks like crap. The frankenstrat is a functional piece of art.

    • @Kylora2112
      @Kylora2112 6 лет назад +15

      The original Frankenstrat was just a hacked-up Partscaster with a Gibson humbucker in the bridge...same goes for Brad Gillis's hacked up '62 Strat. It's a classic only because someone famous played it.

    Hey! I'm dutch and I'm just gonna translate on the spot.
    Beautifull gibson les paul deluxe from 1974. Serial number 136997.
    Gibson decoder site says it's built in between 1970-1975. The last owner says 1974.
    A very rare case, this LP Deluxe. Very much modified by the last owner. (Belonged to professional country guitarist in America that toured a lot with it.) equiped with B-bender But with a lot of routing and covered with metal plates. Also a lot is changed between electronics, pickups and connenctions. I don't know how the switches are now (some work, some don't). Very heavy because of all the modifications.
    Really a players guitar and not really for collectors. But still very pretty to see, this rockbeast. (A lot of mojo!!!).
    Plays and sounds super aswell. Nice low action, great neck and plays like butter. *(ME: Like butter means very easy in dutch)*
    Again; vintage gibson from 1974, a lot of modifications (not really done pretty) *(ME: gotta disagree tbh)*
    But has an awesome sound and very easy to play.
    Comes with a pretty Gator case.
    No trading and I'm not gonna ship this guitar.

    If the seller is Dutch I would be astounded if he doesn't speak English to a very high standard. I have visited the Netherlands a number of times and it is hard to find someone who doesn't speak English. And you don't have to look further than RUclips guitar tutor Paul Davids as an example of a Dutchman whose impeccable English puts many native English speakers to shame.
    In fact I used to work for a Dutch corporation and they gave training courses to their Dutch employees, in the Netherlands, …. in English!

    I have a 1979 Fender Anniversary Stratocaster. It has got a Di Marzio PAF humbucker, with coil tap, shoved in between the bridge and middle pickups, which meant moving the middle pickup towards the neck a little bit. An additional selector switch is in to give the options of strat/humbucker/both pickups. It has got an enormous range of sounds, but purists and collectors would hate it.

    Makes my 1976 deluxe look stock! I have a beautiful cherry sunburst, but unfortunately the previous owner swapped out the bridge for an Ibanez Gibraltar, bridge pickup for a full size DiMarzio, neck pickup for a Bill Lawrence, installed an in and out of phase switch, and changed the tuners to Schallers. The mods were professionally done and look clean. I bought it in 1980 and gigged with it for years. I have thought about trying to restore it closer to stock, but I don't know if it is worth it. I would never sell it and it plays fantastic. Just super heavy.

    I went to a local pawn shop today and they had a TERRIBLE replica, trying to sell to it for over 1200$ too. I told the girl and she acted like she knew what she was talking about and defended it. Not sure if she’s just stupid or trying to scam someone.
    The head stock width was like 3/4 what it should be, I noticed it as soon as I looked at it. And the Gibson logo was an absolute joke.

      Those were not the only issues, but they were th easiest to demonstrate.

  • @caljerm
    @caljerm 6 лет назад

    Looks pretty well done to me. One possibility for that knob that's where the old 3 way was would be a rotary varitone switch. Also - the headstock has a Kahler string lock, not a locking nut - the original nut is still there (a locking nut would have replaced it completely and would have been a shame if they did that so nice they didn't)

  • @KazKylheku
    @KazKylheku 5 лет назад

    Good guess! But that top knob isn't actually for volume; when you turn it about 3/4 of the way, a fourth humbucking "Hot Rails" type pickup appears. For that, a pair of good 9V batteries must be present.

  • @demuthjesse
    @demuthjesse 5 лет назад

    I would imagine that knob placed where the old 3 way selector switch would be is most likely a volume for the middle pick up. So the new 3 way would work as the old one did.The knob which replaced the old 3 way is now a volume to blend that middle pick up into the mix despite what position your 3 way toggle is placed in. Kinda like peter frampton's. Except, he added a knob so he could still have a volume for the neck and bridge. Rather then, in Peter Framptom's cause, where he has a master volume and tone and then a volume and tone for his middle pick up.

    I would definitely play it
    either take out the bender and the master volume knob and repair the kahle with a hybrid bridge or take out the kahler and leave the bender. I believe tom scholtz of boston has a weird bender and homemade tail piece on one of his pauls.
    this guitar might even be a good candidate for adding a midi synth pickup lol
    a guitar like this is actually pretty awesome if you can get it cheap make a recording hotrod or test bed guitar out of it and its still a pro grade instrument. some of the most famous guitars in the world have been super modified guitars

    This guitar reminds me of Darth Vader, some where along the line, Anakin ceased to exist, when he was consumed by the dark side. When the Dark Side took over, it produced a speaking monster; so too, this Les Paul ceased to exist when some man allowed his mind to be so twisted to the point, he would produce this freak of nature speaking monster known as Darth Paul. : )

    I know back in the day Pete Townsend had a couple of LP Delux where he added a middle pickup and moved the switch to the SG position. But I doubt this started off as one of his.

    My uncle has an old 70s Strat that was modded back in the 80s similar in idea to this.

    Looks like someone took their work tools and condensed them all into one tool box. I don't have an issue with someone doing this to their own guitar if it enables to do their job better. Yeah I would rock it, it really doesn't look all that bad, accept that hideous access plate on the back. I agree with your assumption Austin about that being a master volume where the 3 way used to be. It would make sense to have that as a master volume in that area of the guitar.

    Austin! Jimmy Page has a B-Bender on his Red Les Paul. You might spot that on Celebration Day dvd. He plays that specific guitar on Kashmir

    I am not a locking trem aficianodo, and usually I look at locking trems on LPs as an abomination, but I am very intrigued by this one. The pickup selection, electronics mods, and overall gestalt are actually kind of compelling. I'd love to hear what sort of studio work this one has done.

    There are so many guitars out there.
    And the good ones , if properly taken care of.
    Will outlive us all.
    This isnt my thing ,
    The most mods I've ever done
    Were replacing the pots and tone caps to original 1950s bumble bees.
    To each thier own i say.

      Aw c'mon, who doesn't love modding guitars? I'm on a never ending search for that perfect tone (pretty much Jimmy Page on Led Zep 2 lol). I swap out pups constantly & put '50s wiring kits in most of my Gibsons. One day I'll nail it (maybe....lol).

    I would rock that b-bender Les Paul in the studio. Wouldn't want to be seen with it in public though!

  • @GreboGent
    @GreboGent 6 лет назад

    i'd rock it, but i think it would look much better with black plates covering the b-bender cavity as well as some chrome covers over the 2 black humbuckers (not to mention cream surrounds to match the origiinal neck p'up surround), it would balance out the look of it, but i do like crazy modified guitars as long as they work/there's a purpose to the modification because they're given their own identity in looks and sound that way
