In Uruguay that's not one of the slow cars on the road 😅 It's one of the best price/quality options. Mi uncle had an accident at 87 mph on a dirt road (yes, he's insane 😂) and he walked away with no harm at all. So that's and important part of that Corolla to. Love that car, I hope I could buy one someday...
I love how this review is so realistic. they didn't badger the corolla because it wasn't a "driver's car" like every other car reviewer does nowadays. They reviewed it for what it really is. An appliance that does the main job of a car A.K.A, reliable/comfortable transportation, really well. I own this car and I agree, some days I'm in my car and I really wish I had something faster, sportier, and cooler. Then while driving I see cars pulled over the road for speeding, or having some sort of mechanical trouble. I can't help but feel peace of mind that this thing is so comfortable, cheap, and low radar, that suddenly all regrets for not buying a sportier, cooler car kind of melt away. There's a reason that this is the best selling car worldwide. People really need to stop hating on toyota for being boring, cause at the end of the day, it get's the job done, although not as fun, is way easier, which is what really matters most when designing any product.
And you get it without being butt hurt about it. The car is an appliance and that's ok. Because in a world of products that are headaches or disposable the Corolla just works. No it's not that excited, but my understanding Toyota is working on making it just a bit more entertaining without screwing it up.
"They reviewed it for what it really is???" How? How many times will you see a mainstream Corolla driver subjecting their car to this kind of driving on a curvy road? This review is akin to someone putting an iPhone camera up against a nice Nikon SLR. It's just weird and no appropriate.... It's lazy journalism.....
+Binder Dundat did you even pay attention to what he said? He clearly states several times that most ppl will not drive the corolla this way & that it's not meant to be an enthusiasts car. He's trying to push the car to see its limitations, which is what he does in all his reviews.. He called it like it is which is a comfortable, fuel efficient, average car that you don't have to worry about that gets the basic job done.
Yes, as hard as it was, did pay attention and watched every second of the review. I'll emphasize, so even you might understand, the reviewer wasted time with a silly, egotistical review that had more to do with perpetuating his style of reviewing rather than a good review of this economy, compact family car. If most people won't drive like this, then why bother mentioning it?
Over 192K on my 2016. Had it since brand new. Terrifyingly good car and does exactly what a car is supposed to do without headaches, drama, and expense!
I just wish they could make a wagon again with AWD. That would be a great car. Imagine Toyota's reliability with wagon practicality. Subarus are great, but having another competitor like that might make them have to improve their products even more. I would definitely get a new Toyota wagon if it was an option in America. Unfortunately, it's only available in foreign markets

I bet if he did multiple 10 minute videos of different sections (1 video for interior/exterior, 1 on driving dynamics) he would get more views. But yes he is awesome,
Really? Murican's are all about buying reliability hence 99% of Muricans buy Japanese brand cars, for every 1 Chevy there is 100 Corolla in the streets of Murica :D
The Corolla is not reliable, it’s cheap to fix. They go bad, the early 00’s blew gaskets, but they were cheap to fix. The new one have shit transmissions. Any mechanic can fix this and fix it cheap. They sold a lot, so parts are available like crazy so they’re cheap. But the Toyota Corolla is not more reliable than other cars, it’s normal.
Well most Americans finance Corolla for 60 months so I don't get your point. The average car loan is 5 years so i guess most Americans can't afford a Corolla either. Almost nobody takes out 48 month loans anymore. 84 month loans are for people who really can't afford the car
If you can't afford to buy a Corolla in 4 years of working, then you honestly shouldn't even be buying a new car in the first place. There are plenty of good cars out there for $5,000 and below.
Heartagram Exactly. Can't call out someone for financing a Lexus for 6 years when most people do 5 on a Corolla. Yes your payments are lower but the years are still the same. Buy a cash car and call it a day. Car payments suck no matter what the payment!!!
I have an automatic. It is fast, it is quality, it is durable, it is an excellent car and easy to maintain. It is the perfect car, and I paid $20000 for it out the door, by the way, i get 36 mpg at 75 mph, and at 60 mph, i get 40 mpg. This car is the symbol of perfection.
I bought the Corolla LE for $12k with 90k miles I’m at 208k mile with 0 mechanical problems. I changed the CVT fluid at 160k miles and it’s past due for another but no issues. I was worried about the CVT taking a shit on my but the CVT’s held up. Extremely grateful for this car, it’s taken me through my apprenticeship, work, 24 hour road trips from Arizona to Missouri and plenty of 400 mile road trips. If you drive a lot and need something reliable and good on gas look no further. Thank you Toyota.
Sure the Civic may be sporty and fast but the Corolla is simply reliable and it will always get you from point A to point B. I’ll be looking into a used one in a couple months.
This is a great review thanks. I bought a new Corolla S and found this an honest review. All I care about is comfort and reliability with enough performance to keep me happy and that's what this car does. Very happy.
No crap dude, they were not trying to make a sports car; it's more for people who like comfort and reliability. So don't judge it on what it was not meant to do in the first place.
I have to say I felt the same way you do about the Corolla. But my feelings have changed tremendously since I bought a 2017 SE. I got rid of my Cherokee Trailhawk and that awful 9spd. I lease this Corolla and it will be handed down to my daughter in a few years when she is ready to drive. I got the CVT since the manual is even worse(I'm a manual guy always). The CVT, once you learn its ways, is much much better than the ZF 9spd. On the highway the Cherokee took what seems liked for ever to kick down for passing. The Corolla is way faster in highway passing. It's loud for sure. Not one single rattle. Car feels solid and handles decent considering solid rear axle. Now I've owned many enthusiasts cars and consider myself a true enthusiast. It's not a GTI or Miata. It's, like you said, an appliance. But a good appliance. It will run forever will normal maintenance. It looks decent and even has things 30K cars don't have like auto climate and nice wheels. I was always picking on the Corolla but now I'm beyond sold because it does its best at being just a car.
I felt a lot of people hating Toyota's Corolla and Camry, but every month we saw these two models on the top sale list. Those 'Sporty' cars like Mazda 6 sold really bad. I think Toyota really understands the marketing that majority people just want a super reliable, fuel efficient, comfortable ride commute car. Handling, acceleration, or dynamics are just cherries on the cake.
LOL no, people keeping going back to the showroom of Toyota because of the whole reliable thing, and it has really good resale value. But no, Toyota didn't figure out what people want, it's just that Toyota can pump out anything named corolla/camry and people will flock to buy it. Head to head, the Mazda is better at handling, sportiness, looks, driver orientation but your average buyer in the US doesn't care about that. They care about the badge in the front. simple
+madridtillidie Well, that is what Yifeng said. The majority of people just want a "super reliable" car. I wouldn't even say "resale value", because most people buy Toyota's with the intention to keep them "until the wheels fall off". I'll say this, I had a Mazda and moved over to Toyota. Their cars are pretty expensive to maintain and tend to LOVE maintenance when they get older. I'm talking multiple things at once from oil leaks, axles, engine mounts, replacing hoses, you name it! All very expensive to repair especially for an "economy car". Replacing the engine and transmission mounts on my old Mazda was literally 3x more expensive to the comparable Toyota/Nissan/Honda brands. Crazy!
Road tripped a 2014 corolla 1000 miles to Yellowstone. Mpg was 40 mpg the entire time. Comfy as heck. Cvt was terrible though, could not pass a semi going up a mountain road.
Not hard to fix that. Just plan ahead and accelerate hard before hitting the hill. No need to be in the left lane otherwise. It's no Mazda 6 or Honda Accord, but it works.
And you apparently drive a chick car. I love pulling up beside Miatas with the senior couple inside and letting them think they have a quick car off the line. Oooh, but then we get to a set of curves and wow does that Miata ever perform haha. zoom zoom beep beep
I would own that car. Point a to point b, daily driver. As long as it looks well kept up who cares what you drive... You don't know anyone in the street and if you need to impress your friends then get new friends. The one exception in my book is if you need a nice car for your career.
I drive like a grandma. Yet I'm 18. Personally, I dont mind my car as an appliance. I cant speed around anywhere. If I could speed around I would love to get a fast car. But that's stupid to get a fast car and drive 40 mph. I want my car to be reliable and also look nice. Not a overly done car. But not an overly boring bland car. For me, I personally like the whole look of theis Corolla. I would change the tail lights. But I do really like this. But I needed up getting a 2013 Camry. Its bigger. But also when I got it, it was modified a bit. Black rims, tinted windows, with a grey body. And leather cloth mixture seats. And it's the sports edition. And it all black inside. It's a really comfortable car. I really love it. I would have been fine with a corolla S trim. But I didn't end up with that. I lasted in the back of one of these for a 2 hour trip. I was impressed on the back seat room. But the girl driving was a bit short. But still a ton of room. Mu back started hurting a bit. But a jacket rolled up fixed that. It was comfortable everywhere else.
I have an 07 Corolla that has 304k miles. She’s slowly dying unfortunately 😢, so I’m looking to buy a 2016 Corolla. I got my Corolla in 2016 at 147k, gave me no problems, just changed tires, brakes, oil, AC, and starter once. Other than that, never left me stranded ever. Drove to Boston to NYC so many times and even down to Washington DC from Boston with 5 people in it. Best car ever
It's a Dad's car. A middle-class dad. I need to go to work and I don't want any extra expenses. The money I'll save with the gas mileage and unexpected breakdowns, I can use to book a vacation somewhere every winter.
there's a reason why they sell so many. amazing comfortable affordable reliable cars for those who get a car to get from point A to point B with money left over.
I loved my 1995 corolla, it did have independent rear suspension, a 1.6L with 5 speed manual. I put 35,000 miles on it in a year and a half with no problems, then traded it for a ''97 Tacoma.
Bought my 2016 Corolla LE Plus brand new.108,000 miles later and no problems in 2023,besides a mouse incident. No dash rattles.CVT is good. 39.7 MPG average.Still original brakes on car, just cleaned and adjusted.Air conditioning still works good.Changed all the fluids including a drop and fill with the CVT.All the new cars have all these safety gizmos and warnings that down the road will be expensive to fix.If you crack your windshield Toyota says to replace it with a expensive dealer windshield. Then you have to replace all the safety electronics in the windshield and then pay too have the safety sense recalibrated.Versus no safety sense and have any window repair install a window for 350$ Which i have had done twice from trucks on the highway shooting rocks from their tires.
I’ve owned both a 2016 & now a 2017 Corolla SE both with the CVT’s and these cars are absolute gems! My 2016 was great, it got amazing gas mileage, Back seat is Huge. I wasn’t a huge fan of the light cloth seats and I wanted the adaptive cruise control. I traded in the 2016 at 120K miles with zero issues for my 2017 SE which looks pretty close to this 2016 with the Softex seats and the better looking interior. I’ve gotten extremely lucky and my interior is absolutely quiet, No squeaks, Rattles or anything. To the point where a Redbull can rattles in the cup holder I loose my mind! I absolutely love sitting and driving in my car. The interior is so nice to be in. Only issue I’ve had in 132k miles is the front right wheel bearing went out. This car has been all over the US, Upper Michigan extremely often, Routinely down to Florida all while getting 39 MPG on the freeway which means more to me than accelerating. I would have no issue jumping into this car and driving to California. I love the seats in the “S” and “SE” trims. I personally feel like it had enough power to merge onto the freeway while yes from a dead stop it can be brutal. For reference our other vehicle is an Audi A6 V6 Turbo that FLIES and I still love getting back into my car after driving he Audi. Funny enough my 17 as more features than the Audi somehow, Audi has no Adaptive cruise, Lane departure. Most its got it Heated Seats 😂 If I had to complain, I do wish they put the 8 Speed from the Camry into this car, I like the CVT for how incredibly smooth it is and I do mean incredibly smooth however I would be lying if I wasn’t nervous for when it get to around 190K miles if it won’t fail. I do drive like a grandpa, using the Eco Bar in the gauges pretty much all the time and I’ve changed the fluid at 60K miles and again at 120K miles so keeping my fingers crossed!
Solid Wisdom facts brotha I got a 2015 Toyota Corolla I had the car for 3 months now I love it too I guess people have there own opinions it drives smooth for me get me from point A to point B💯
When OVER half the goddamn country can't afford a $1000 dollar emergency, it's nice to KNOW there's a company out there that understands the reality that shit-kicks the American consumer in the FACE! American consumers are not BORING, they're goddamn BROKE!!!
@@sus5770 We've been chill....and this is what happens when you're chill....you become frozen in place...the easier for the powers-that -be to walk all over you....
If last like my matrix, is the best car on planet, 220k miles 13 year old, and only thing I changed was front brakes and oil and spark plugs, and still running like a champion when I sold it.
A car known for it's reliability and longevity, with a CVT more known for the opposite. I had a 1995 Corolla, 1.6L and a 5 speed manual. The 95' had independent rear suspension, it road and handled alright, and was great in the snow, thanks to the 14'' wheels.
I, too, recently purchased a 16 Corolla S Premium. I went with the sport version not because I'm an aggressive driver but because it has four wheel disc brakes. The other trim levels have rears drums which I'm not thrilled with. By the way, I've gotten slightly over 48 mpg driving conservatively. It's not the dead-feeling, cheap, or vanilla car this vid portrays it to be. The steering feels fine to me, I'm satisfied with the low end torque, noise is subdued, no rattles or squeaks, and the ride isn't too bad for a compact car. I've never had a CVT before but it's not as bad as I had expected or had heard. Life's too short to complain about fake shift points! As a matter of fact, I don't even pay attention to them. Bottom line, I think it's a great little car with far more highlights than downfalls.
I got the 2016 xsp version and yes it is very slow but the car looks very sporty, gets great fuel mileage and it has a nice interior, this is my first Toyota and honestly I love the little thing.
I love reading comments like "Toyota is not fun to drive" or "Toyota doesn't look as cool as car XYZ". Newsflash: Car is not a toy, and car is not a fashion accessory.
i bought my 2016 corolla LE in may 2017 with 12k miles. only paid 13,900 for it. that was in the world before something called "covid-19". anyway, between may 2017 and november 2023 i put around 86k on it. no issues at all. replaced battery (due to age) and put new tires on, and the OEM factory tires lasted 70k miles. great car, good gas mileage with very minimal upkeep aside from oil changes and tire rotations, I gave it to my daughter for her first vehicle. I really do miss that car.
I have a 13 with the sport package and a 4 speed auto. I drive it mostly in 2nd gear so the VVT-i kicks in yo. LOL. But really, they can be quick without beating the total shit of it. Between 3500-4500 RPMs there's plenty of power. I wouldn't wish a CVT on anybody though.
@@sgtpepper6379 I understand that, but the droning sound a CVT makes drives me crazy. Also, they're not reliable enough for my tastes. Much better now than they were a few years ago though.
12:29 fun fact: They're called "goose neck hinges". Little throw-in regarding the decklid opening systems: This solution (goose neck hinges + torsion springs) is mostly used on low price vehicles (or on cars from the 60s/70s) because it's only steel profile with some fasteners and bumpers and spring wire - and in most cases it lasts longer then the version with dampers would do. The more expensive solution are the multi-link hinges with dampers - there is no intrusion by the hinges, but you have to design a wider water channel in order to place the hinge on the BIW (means a smaller width of the trunk as a result). But it is more expensive because of the multi-piece design of the hinges and the dampers. These dampers have a problem: They do not operate stable in different temperatures: in the summer the decklid gives you an uppercut after you click on the touchpad and during winter you have to pull it all the way up. Additionally you have to meet the forces for opening, closing and latching effort according engineering spec - it's a pain in the ass. Foot activated and obstacle sensing power liftgates or decklids are the most expensive systems yet. I personally do not like them because they are only practical, when you have no free hand to open them. In most other cases you will have to wait until this abra cadabra happens.
I was laughing every time you'd say "again, this isn't a way anyone is going to drive the Corolla, but you should know...." I always try and get commuters with a LITTLE spice, I've had multiple integras, a DSM, a couple Accords, and a MK1 focus, all fun enough. Needed something cheap and fast so I got a Corolla.... I..... drive a Corolla "that way..." And your review, is SPOT on.... Mine is actually the previous gen but other than the transmissions, there was no upgrade under the skin. Mine is a 5 speed manual, I can say it doesn't add anything, and I often now wish I'd have gone with an auto.
I hate when people call Corolla an appliance. Isn't a Honda Civic or Kia Rio an appliance too?! This car has been sold around the world for over 50 years for a reason. I own a top of the line Corolla S premium with heated seats, paddle shifters, sport seats, sunroof, navigation etc. I've received many compliments on the car. If you want a reliable and dependable buy a Corolla.
@@Wealthforthe99Percent yeah the ext civic (the turbo one) is so much faster and actually handles extremely well compared to the corolla. The civic is also very reliable too.
Also you could get this car with the traditional torque converter automatic but it only comes on the base model (L) trim.. which is weird because I thought it was the better option haha
Thank you very much. This is quite possibly one of the most objective reviews of the Toyota Corolla. I was really waiting for this video to make a purchasing decision. I appreciate it very much !
Four wheel independent suspension is essential for a smooth ride. The Honda Civic has it. Most other compact class cars do not. I think the Mazda 3 has it. The large Hyundai Sonata SE sedan has it, and you can buy a Sonata for the price of a Civic LX if you bargain correctly. Be friendly and politely offer 15% below MSRP. If they say no, just thank them for their time and walk away. Chances are you will be called back.
Your videos are all really well made. I guarantee you that your subscribers will hit 250k in no time with this type of quality. I would watch a vehicle review from you any day over Consumer Reports. I believe you have found your calling in life.
my wife's 2001 surprises me in the turns. It is almost quick and holds. Cheap Kumo tires too. I offered to buy her new, but she loves this car. Maintenance done and good for another 100k easily.
This is my car.....I love the car honestly. I have the le trim....because any other trim above that loses the value of driving the car. It has everything that I want and features I didn't know I wanted. It has automatic climate control, cruise control, rear backup camera....it even reminds me to change the oil. Its the car you don't have to think about.....which is the entire point of the toyota corolla. I spilled a chocolate shake on cloth seats.....barely scrubbed and it came out. The seats fold down....I have brought home patio seats and bookcases in the sedan. I like the hard plastics....because it is easy to clean. This is the super family car....kids destroy everything they touch....better to give them plastic. Does it struggle up mountains.....yes, because the engine, although reliable, is not powerful, like at all. Only question.....why test the manual? The toyota corolla owner wants the least amount of trouble. Shifting involves work....there is no sport mode in this car. What is the point of the S trim? Go buy the civic if that is want you want.
Don't sleep on the manual. Some people really don't like CVTs. They want everything you mentioned plus the ability to be more physically engaged with the drivetrain and road. Not everyone can have a daily commuter plus a fun car, they need it all in one package.
Had a 2004 Corolla for many years, this review sums up that car just as much as the new one. Just keep in mind that there are non-CVT versions, the CVT is the most expensive option.
Glad to see you didn't fall asleep while driving this "ho-hum" drive. I owned a 1998 Toyota Corolla" for 21 years without a single problem for 206,197 miles. I'd buy that same car again if I could ever find a low mileage version. Damn reliable vehicle.
I have one and agree. It gets the job done in the least flashy way possible. Cons would be noise inside the car at high speed and it feels too light at high speeds as well.
I am considering buying this car second hand. This review gave me the basics of the performance an livability. I drive a slow car now, but its fine. I think reliability is very exciting! I rather spend my time, and money into things I want to do rather than a glitchy unreliable or a gas guzzler.
Would be nice if Toyota brought back the Corolla XRS with a 6 spd manual with an LSD, independent rear and a sport suspension 👍 would be sweet and a TRD super charger available of course 👍
Well done once again. I'm hoping the 2017 50th Anniversary will be a little more impressive. I'm on the tightrope of "I need a little zoom!" and "Just get me from A to B safely and quietly". Keep up the good (great) work,Sir.
Corolla vs Elantra? I think the latter is more appealing these days. Longer warranty, more standard features in lower trims, no CVT, less sluggish. Maybe you forgot to show the inside of the trunk, but nice hinges. But good as always to watch these savagegeese videos.
I'm looking to buy....I really like the looks....and gas milage....sharp looking car's....I never owned a foreign car but I like these...great for a old man like me...
I had this as a rental for about a month. While my daily was in the body shop. Driving this car at 80MPH fine, 90MPH pushing it... anything over and the car felt like it was about to cry. This is an appliance. Since this one is highly optioned, it's like the stainless steel crock pot of cars... gets the job done.
Anton Zuykov well it speaks towards the quality of the car. Well built cars do not buffet or blow in the wind at speeds over 80 MPH. This does. It is a cheap car built with cheap materials. This car was being pushed by gentle breezes at normal speeds.
Anton Zuykov sorry dad, and it can be. Some cars just don't buffet. This one does, and you can option these bad boys out to 30k. Which is sad since in five years it will be 5k
So, how come, that I was impressed with this (the 2017 vers.) car when I rented one for a day? I kinda know..I drive a much worse car for years now (2012 Chevy Cruze). I'm just saying, that which car is faster/more agile/fun to drive really depends on what car currently you have and whether or now you had the luck to test as many as possible for long term. Because 10 minutes of test drive says nothing about the car really, some will even trick you with low rpm torque, but just gives up at higher rpm (see: Chevy cruze). . I can also bet, that many people still chugging around with early to late 00s cars or even 90s models will walk away from the test drive with a good impression.
With you on that. The Corolla models from the 2000's were the best of them all. The 2001+ (E120) RS180 had a 6spd manual and the 1.8 2ZZ-GE from the Celica (and also went in the Lotus). North America got this engine in 2005/6. Then the E150 Corolla/Auris 2006-2012 model had the Japan market version called the Blade with the 3.5L Camry engine. The 2000's generations of the Corolla were probably the best made of all the Corollas ever too. The engineering and materials quality started to slip after 2012. They are still a solid buy today and worth replacing worn parts to keep long term.
Love my rented corrie! Just want to get to work and back with music and comfort and throw my bike in the back on off days. Brilliant car for it's superb mundanity, anonymity and steadfastness.
Yes but the Toyota's CVT has proven to be problem free, just remember to replace the atf every 60k miles and itll last, that is why turboski chose the CVT over DI for the corolla.
So I do know about CVTs and why from an enthusiast/performance and maintainability perspective they are crap.. but I'm not sure about direct injection. Is it a matter of unnecessary complexity, or is such a thing inherently less reliable??
It really is amazing how these get good fuel economy no matter what. I have a 13 and it doesn't seem to matter whether I drive it like a grandma or drive the shit out of it. It still gets 34 highway, 26 city. Like clockwork.

It's 2018 now and they have 100k subs.
2022/'23, 600k.
Only in America can reliability sound like a bad thing. Lol
Really? Murican's are all about buying reliability hence 99% of Muricans buy Japanese brand cars, for every 1 Chevy there is 100 Corolla in the streets of Murica :D
Manny Echaluce -- You are probably joking, but if you aren't, you couldn't be more wrong.
@@mannyechaluce3814 btw this corolla is in many ways different than the Japanese spec corolla we get here.
I think the distinction is "Only American car reviewers." They are clearly out of touch with the actual sales market.
Some people want a reliable low cost car and not be up to their eyeballs with an $800 Lexus car payment.
$800/month is very manageable lol
Yeah. You and I can afford it.... most of America is financing cars for 72 months cause they can't afford it.
I bought the Corolla LE for $12k with 90k miles
I’m at 208k mile with 0 mechanical problems.
What year was yours?
How’s the road noise inside the cabin? I’ve heard they get annoyingly noisy in the highway
Sure the Civic may be sporty and fast but the Corolla is simply reliable and it will always get you from point A to point B. I’ll be looking into a used one in a couple months.
Did you get one? How’s it been?
This is a great review thanks. I bought a new Corolla S and found this an honest review. All I care about is comfort and reliability with enough performance to keep me happy and that's what this car does. Very happy.
stereotemple ii
stereotemple same reasons I bought a '17 SE. My Cherokee was a huge turd. Also it's cheap at $200/month versus $600 on my Jeep.
This was exactly my experience after I bought a '16 S. I don't look down on these little cars anymore.
Mine is a '16 and FULL of rattles
@Sean B did someone take ur girl in a corolla?
@seanb7969going from a reliable Toyota Corolla to an unreliable dodge Durango…hilarious, make it make sense lmao
Crazy!
+madridtillidie The Mazda is also noisy and hard riding.
Yes, you dont buy a corolla for a sporty ride but for resale reliability durability longevity hassle free.
Most people in the USA are are NOT car people, and just want "something that works without a doubt." This explains why the Yotas sell so well.
I love the 2016-2017 Toyota Corolla. Very very comfortable to drive and we're poor so great as an appliance that doesn't ever break!
Gotta give toyota credit even in top trim the price is very good unlike a loaded civic which is way overpriced
Road tripped a 2014 corolla 1000 miles to Yellowstone. Mpg was 40 mpg the entire time. Comfy as heck. Cvt was terrible though, could not pass a semi going up a mountain road.
That's not the CVTs fault. CVT will do much better than a 4spd. It's just not a fast car or meant to be one.
Not hard to fix that. Just plan ahead and accelerate hard before hitting the hill. No need to be in the left lane otherwise. It's no Mazda 6 or Honda Accord, but it works.
Bravo! Never seen so much info on a Corolla. Most useful review
I was cross shopping one of these with a refrigerator. Ended up going fridge.
Education, and a decent house is more important than what car u drive so I agred
"You could have a small seizure and you would still drive safe" HAHAHHAHA BEST LINE!
Kind of amazing to see how up market even the compact cars are today.
I love how this guy throws good jokes around like it's nothing while staying perfectly serious XD
Yep, just my thoughts
there's a reason why they sell so many. amazing comfortable affordable reliable cars for those who get a car to get from point A to point B with money left over.
The enthusiasm is dripping from this video
Most its got it Heated Seats 😂
If I had to complain, I do wish they put the 8 Speed from the Camry into this car, I like the CVT for how incredibly smooth it is and I do mean incredibly smooth however I would be lying if I wasn’t nervous for when it get to around 190K miles if it won’t fail. I do drive like a grandpa, using the Eco Bar in the gauges pretty much all the time and I’ve changed the fluid at 60K miles and again at 120K miles so keeping my fingers crossed!
This car isnt as boring as people say. I drove in mountains it felt prety good and responsive just a little loud
Solid Wisdom facts brotha I got a 2015 Toyota Corolla I had the car for 3 months now I love it too I guess people have there own opinions it drives smooth for me get me from point A to point B💯
@Sean B bullshit its an awesome car i bet you have a pontiac or saturn
@Sean B whats wrong with it?

+Rick Rockey Great MPG glad you like it.
I'm so glad you're not doing those boring FRS builds anymore. Please keep doing Corolla reviews!
+MrTotesmcgoats Need more FRS videos!
Savagegeese I love your frank unbiased assessment of the cars you produce. I luv the music you put together for these vids, and great camera quality
i bought my 2016 corolla LE in may 2017 with 12k miles. only paid 13,900 for it. that was in the world before something called "covid-19". anyway, between may 2017 and november 2023 i put around 86k on it. no issues at all. replaced battery (due to age) and put new tires on, and the OEM factory tires lasted 70k miles. great car, good gas mileage with very minimal upkeep aside from oil changes and tire rotations, I gave it to my daughter for her first vehicle. I really do miss that car.
how does the Rolla compare to the Civic before and after the 2016 redesign ? Do you think the Civic is less of an appliance in either case ?
Love ur titles Savage. They tell me a lot even before watching. Thank you
“No one will drive a corolla like this,” Actually you would be surprised how many people buy these cars just to beat the living shit out of them.
Yeah. Come to South Florida. Haha
@@mdd47 funny how you knock CVT, but keep it in 2nd for more power. That's kinda exactly what a cvt does, keeps it in power range.
It's best features is that it feels light and has excellent brakes for what it is. Fit and finish, and ergonomics are above par for sure.

So my fun memories of my 1990 Corolla are just that. Memories. Kthx.
why no hood insulator pad I wonder?
Four wheel independent suspension is essential for a smooth ride. The Honda Civic has it. Most other compact class cars do not. I think the Mazda 3 has it. The large Hyundai Sonata SE sedan has it, and you can buy a Sonata for the price of a Civic LX if you bargain correctly. Be friendly and politely offer 15% below MSRP. If they say no, just thank them for their time and walk away. Chances are you will be called back.
i own a 2016 Corolla S Plus, and I absolutely love it!! no loose screws, no noisy dashboard...just a awesome car..

my wife's 2001 surprises me in the turns. It is almost quick and holds. Cheap Kumo tires too. I offered to buy her new, but she loves this car. Maintenance done and good for another 100k easily.
Just picked up a 2016 civic and been loving it
+Fadic 4 I think Toyota needs to follow the direction a bit of the new Civic for next gen in some ways in terms of curb appeal.
My BRZ has the touch sensor on the inside of the door handle to open, also. The sensor to lock is on the outside-front of the handle.
Just keep in mind that there are non-CVT versions, the CVT is the most expensive option.
is that a garbage can fire at 13:30?
+Guillermo Monroy Strategically placed.
I just got mine a month ago and I love it one of my favorite cars I have got.
I am considering buying this car second hand. This review gave me the basics of the performance an livability. I drive a slow car now, but its fine. I think reliability is very exciting! I rather spend my time, and money into things I want to do rather than a glitchy unreliable or a gas guzzler.
Even though people hate this car, I currently have a 2007 Camry and I’m sure this newer corolla is much better than my Camry.
wow that was camaro in the background at 8:21 ?
I wish people in the world would stop complaining about the Corolla. Because for what it's built for, there is absolutely nothing to complain about
Would be nice if Toyota brought back the Corolla XRS with a 6 spd manual with an LSD, independent rear and a sport suspension 👍 would be sweet and a TRD super charger available of course 👍
Jeff Eppenger aw man that would be badass.
so exciting said no one ever...good appliance.
Well done once again. I'm hoping the 2017 50th Anniversary will be a little more impressive. I'm on the tightrope of "I need a little zoom!" and "Just get me from A to B safely and quietly". Keep up the good (great) work,Sir.
+stupid8911 Thanks, hope you find your wheels.
Corolla vs Elantra? I think the latter is more appealing these days. Longer warranty, more standard features in lower trims, no CVT, less sluggish. Maybe you forgot to show the inside of the trunk, but nice hinges. But good as always to watch these savagegeese videos.
The Elantra's getting a CVT for the 2020my.
I love you Savagegeese👌👌
When you asked Turbowski if he rather have DI or CVT was he debating on whether he would put up with the CVT or deal with carbon deposit?
+tiramisu327 In the Rolla it has port injection so, if you could swap for DI to dump the cvt. Hard choice on this car.

Great review! Direct straight forward and informative! Thank you.
Anton Zuykov newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/cto/5926551722.html
Anton Zuykov is the Corolla your favorite car or something?
Anton Zuykov I only do not like the quality of this car. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.
Something really attractive about Turbowski.
Driving a Corolla is meditation, which is actually a good thing.
"small seizure"!!! hilarious! you rock my man!
YES exactly!!! just like Scotty Kilmer says... they are the most reliable cars !!!
I bought a 08 manual corolla and I'm surprise how well it drives. I drove a 2013 and it felt like a boat compared to mine.
I remember when this came out and Toyota were trying to sell it as “more fun to drive”
Holy shit I came back here to send this video to a friend who's going to buy one of these Corollas and forgot how much I missed Scott 🥺
Love my rented corrie! Just want to get to work and back with music and comfort and throw my bike in the back on off days. Brilliant car for it's superb mundanity, anonymity and steadfastness.

would you prefer CVT corolla over 4cylinder automatic?
OMG that intro !
5:30 would you rather have direct injection or CVT? Direct injection, a bad CVT is catastrophic failure.
Yes but the Toyota's CVT has proven to be problem free, just remember to replace the atf every 60k miles and itll last, that is why turboski chose the CVT over DI for the corolla.
Wait....Turbowski is a White Sox fan?
i love my car..no noisy dashboard, no lose screws..to me it's sporty...and the car is very affordable.
I like your video. I own the 2017 SE and love the car. I feel you hit the nail on the head. Great review.
So I do know about CVTs and why from an enthusiast/performance and maintainability perspective they are crap.. but I'm not sure about direct injection. Is it a matter of unnecessary complexity, or is such a thing inherently less reliable??
I beat the shit out of my sisters 2016 corolla all the way to 45k miles when she returned the lease, not a single issue
It really is amazing how these get good fuel economy no matter what. I have a 13 and it doesn't seem to matter whether I drive it like a grandma or drive the shit out of it. It still gets 34 highway, 26 city. Like clockwork.
Can someone explain why direct injection is bad? I know port allows more boost and is easier to tune but that can be mediated right?
T Kaira- carbon buildup in the intake and the valves. They're not washed and cleaned with fuel spray the way they are with port injection.
