You have to understand that despite all that’s happened, he’s very hurt by this and was forced to remove himself from the situation , which is why he’s so hard on himself. If a friend of mine was making friends with minors online and was being flirty in the texts and sending lingerie pics (as a joke or non joke doesn't matter), I would break their leg with no hesitation because no adult should be getting this involved with minors.
