    The Manic Street Preachers are often called 'the best band in the world' in a slightly piss taking way because of something Richey said right at the beginning of their career. However I think they really do deserve that accolade. This band and their music means so much to me, they have created a sound track that resonates to moments and events in my life. There just aren't any other bands out there making music that's as exciting, socially aware, politically astute and just human! The Manics are my favourite band. Motörhead are probably my second favourite band and the Dead Kennedys my third. I like The Clash,
    The Stranglers, The Exploited and Jello Biafras Guantanamo School of Medicine. I've seen so many bands live and by far the best gig I've ever been to was a Manics performance in Carlisle. I've seen them play other gigs but this one on the Design for life tour was just blistering rock n roll, it was a truly awesome event. MSP for life!

      All I can say is that the Holy Bible is legit one of the greatest pieces of art ever made, it is imperious in its mastery of the the way it tells of the brutal nature of humnaity through the vessel of songs about the holocaust, The Soviets, Capitalism, anorexia and child sex trafficking its beyond powerful, it is a warning and if course it itself is confident in that warning never being taken seriously as my favourite lyric in the centerpiece of the album says "I've been too honest with myself I should have, lied like everybody else"
      And them the followed up with a melancholic masterpiece filled with strings and echo in Everything must go, honestly those two albums back to back show the strength of them as a band
      And that's without even talking about the titanic return to form of Send away the Tigers, the harrowing Journal for plague lovers and the weird but Brilliant double act of Futurology and rewind the film
      A sensational band

    It sounded great live on the last tour and loses nothing listening to it now. Yet another magically effective collaboration with a female vocalist too. Like much of the best Manics it has an urgency and an impatience about it. Cannot wait until Futurology is out

    Even though somehow its extremely intangible the lure of Berlin. And the influence it has on people. Its clear to see that it has. From this, i believe they lived in Berlin for the duration of some of the writing and all of the recording of this.
    Next to London, Berlin has to be my favourite city. It really is the place to be.

    • @3ADWOLF
      @3ADWOLF 10 лет назад +8

      The German language sounds beautiful? I think most people would say it sounds aggressive and that's why it suits the beat of this song.

    • @burkezillar
      @burkezillar 10 лет назад +5

      Toma Hawk There was a survey conducted a few years ago which found that the English language sounded the most abrupt, fearful language. jack mcgregor is right, the German language is beautiful. To me it's beautiful because of it's simplicity, it's efficient. If you see a word and think it should be spoken how it reads, that is usually the case. You can't say that with English and the word Centre for example.

    • @3ADWOLF
      @3ADWOLF 10 лет назад +6

      Michael Burke What survey was this? I just looked at a top 10 worst sounding languages and German is 5th. Did you mean American English? because that is 2nd on the list.
      I understand the English language is more complex because there are many words that are either spelt the same or spelt differently yet still pronounced the same but efficiency doesn't hide the fact the German language sounds harsh and agressive.

      @EvilVulthoom 9 лет назад +2

      Toma Hawk Fuck that. I'm listening to a very wide range of music. Metal is a place where i find my niche most of the time, but aggressive? i understand the edge, but aggressive range pronouncation? That must be if you don't understand the language at all, and put in a personal preference of thought.

    It's a little bit Einsturzhende Neubauten, a little bit making me wonder where the message is at first. Then I realize, I'm not the only person who's been looking at Europe and seeing a lot of sorrow and promise over the last twenty years. There is the expected Manic Street preach-ing going on in this song just in the act of saying positive things about Europe as a macro scale entity. It's a form of activism and it's contiguous Manic Street Preachers IMHO.

    As someone who has 4 Manics/Richey tats (Inc the 4 Real pic on my calf) I absolutely put Holy Bible, Journal For Plague Lovers and Futureology as a lovely neat triptych.
    I know JFPL was *meant* to be the last of his lyrics but either he's all over this record. Or Nicky was channelling major 1994 Richey vibes. I bloody love this album.

    The European dream isn't what it once was. The Social Europe was always a lie. Inasmuch as it was dependent on the leadership of the German social democratic model, that came down with the Berlin Wall, and now Germany leads the way in the race to the bottom on wages and workers rights, originally just for a short time to help with the colonial absorption of East Germany, but then prolonged indefinitely to protect Germany's huge balance of trade surplus in the Eurozone, competing every other centre of industry into the ground not by higher capital investment and training, as before, but by lower pay. If that's the future of Europe, as it looks like, we've escaped the trap that Syriza and the Greek people fell into the same year this came out.
