I saw Rewind tour back in 2013 at the Newport Centre its only a few miles down the road from me it was fantastic , it was the first night of the tour , i remember going to get tickets , it was july and the gig was on sept 13th i got 2 for me and a mate got home and went on FB and saw people saying all tickets sold , well thanks a bunch , and Richard Hawley a cracking voice
A song that looks back at innocence, community, respect, values and more importantly love. These are things that are vanishing away like a shadow in the sunlight these days.
Manic Street Preachers featuring the beautiful people of Wales & the inimitable Richard Hawley: a mix of smiles & tears, celebrating the Welsh mining communities of better times...
lol this is my comment from 3 years ago with a different youtube account, its the first time since then i could bring myself to watch it again, makes me cry every time thinking of my parents
My stepmother is in this video at 5-21 and 5-55 and my dad was chairman of this club for years ....he passed on st David's day this year, rest in piece Tommy
This song and the cinematography pulls my heart strings back to the community that I’m from. It reminds me of my wonderful father and makes me proud. Ebbw Vale and all the folk there, the hard working, proud, kind, Welsh people it resonates for. Absolutely heart wrenching song from the Manic Street Preachers. A masterpiece in my mind.
I burst in to tears as soon as James started singing.Mr Hawley lulled me into sense of comfort.Heartbreaking soaring Manics ,only band with any relevance these days.
Oh in that case, what you need to know in a nutshell! (general): Welsh language, Coal Mining/Valleys communities, Rugby (national sport), Cardiff (Capital and seat of Government), Welsh Dragon (see flag and myths), Welsh emigration/colonies (Philadelphia, Patagonia etc.), Beautiful Scenery (Mountains, Coastline), Anti-English sentiment, Independence movement, - Famous Welsh Actors/Singers: Tom Jones, Charlotte Church, Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins, Shirley Bassey, Catherine Zeta Jones, Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Sheen, Luke Evans, Matthew Rhys - Famous Welsh Sports People: Gareth Bale, Ryan Giggs, Aaron Ramsey, Gary Speed, Gareth Edwards, JPR Williams, Barry John, George North, Shane Williams, Sam Warburton, Alun Wyn Jones, Gareth Thomas etc....
Represents the sadness of the Welsh Valleys and the loss of the collieries and hence jobs. Is a natural follow on from Show Me the Wonder and Anthem for a Lost Cause. So very sad for a Valley boi!!
This came out about 2/3 months after my Dad died. Not going to lie, fairly difficult to listen to this song without thinking about him. But then again that's the power of music isn't it? Nicky Wire wasn't thinking about his Dad when he wrote it, but all I can think about is my Dad and when I was a child with him when I listen to it.
Michael, this song has caused me many tears also concerning my childhood which was a happy one. It is riveting. Hope you are well. Best Wishes from Boston.
My Dad died a couple of years ago, but when I first saw this, there was something about it that reminded me of him. He seemed so much like those folk - in his late 60s, a retired working-class man. Now, after he has passed, the song has so much more resonance for me and it can be hard for me listen to it.
Yep I grew up about 30 minutes away down the road from here. Literally nothing to do as a child growing up in the 70's and 80's. Though a beautiful place, with beautiful Welsh people, also a soul destroying place. Great song to. Thank you my friend.
Everything fades to memory the sweetness of mourning drifts away and withers to stale. Life once new with promise and bursts is lost to deaths embrace. But hope, hope never dies, never dries for want of quenching, for want of dews greetings in mourning air, hope lives eternal that we meet again in springs unfailing.
Resonates so much with me at the minute this song, lost my Dad a few weeks ago 🥲 It’s about a dying generation of hard working, working class people where community, respect for each other, loyalty friendship and principles mattered. Values that are sadly lacking in many communities these days and which have been eroded by Tory scum, where it’s all about greed and selfishness.
indeed, you've summed that up perfectly. thought id seen the worst that Politicians could offer with Thatcher, didn't bank on Sunak and his gang of immoral spivs and chancers
This video is an absolute stunner. From the panoramic landscapes to the detail of fingers gripping the bridge. It captures totally the sentiment of MSP's song. Goosebumps every time I see and watch. Oh, and not forgetting Richard's perfect inclusion into this song. Couldn't have been anyone else. My faith in today's music still burns very strong.
For anyone like me, who once lived through and witnessed the decline of a once proud UK industrial community this video is emotional. Great music, production, lyrics and atmosphere.
This song is very moving, makes you feel so sad, as does Anthem for a lost cause. I grew up at the head of the Valleys. I moved on jumping ship and emigrating to the States back in 1991 at 32. I was lucky I got out, but am proud to be a valley boy and Welsh. The MSP never leave me forget where I am from. Wales, and being Welsh made me the person I am!
I hope someone can hear me out here. This is a fantastic song, absolutely one of the best the Manics have done in the post-Richey days. But it should not be at the place it is on the album. It’s track 3, but because of its amazing build and summing up the album’s themes of nostalgia and the good and bad of the past, it would work amazingly as a closer. I still love the Rewind album but where this song comes has always bugged me. I’m not the only one, am I?
I absolutely love this song, can't stop playing the video. I last saw the Manics play in Aberdeen on their 2010 tour, just after one of my best friends died and this song just about has me in tears.
It looks like this social club is still open! I always assumed that used some old abandoned social club for filming but they have a Facebook page and it’s open. Social clubs are an important part of the community in allot of places especially in tiny villages.
What a beautiful, evocative film and piece of music from The MSP. It speaks of the bonds that unite us all and create communities. Communities that have systematically been dismantled and destroyed by successive English governments,
governments don't destroy community people do, it's called divide and conquer. you get policemen from yorkshire to bully mine workers from wales, and policemen from wales to bully mine workers from yorkshire. get the picture ? now, you've got the same thing with fracking. when are we going to learn, to stop fighting each other, and refuse. to fight each other ? it's their parents today, but it's your parents tomorrow, and because you didn't stick together YOU destroyed your community

Im loving this song, the more you listen to it, the better it gets, and Im a Big Country fan, so cant wait to hear, what JDB has done as a tribute to Stuart Adamson, looks like it will be something from the Crossing era
I don't know how they do it, but they continue to kick ass for so long. This song is no exception - and it's so outlandishly far from anything they done before. Nostalgic, powerful, uplifting, alive...instant classic.

I feel so happy that their music has developed with them and is still as beautiful as it always has been. There would be nothing worse than at this time in their lives; older, feeling different and developed that they would try to repeat anything like the holy bible or generation terrorists. They are staying true to what they want to create and not what people want to hear. I can't wait to see them in Manchester :)

It's a grower, I think. It's a long time since they produced anything with such a strong sense of beautiful desolation. Hawley's voice fits the song perfectly, but you can't help wishing there was more of JDB in it. Got to say though, whenever the Manics collaborate with other artists, the results are unfailingly brilliant.
Show me the wonder, How the UK was. Rewind the film: How it is now, such a poignant melody and video. Got to say, everything this band has done is golden! The music James Dean Bradfield and Sean Moore compose has always fitted the lyrics. Such an amazing band MSP are.
This song, and coincidentally clip (which is a thing of beauty) I think, depict the state of many of Wales', the UK's or Europe's small villages. It has become near impossible to live there. People moving out, seeking a way of survival in the bigger cities. The people left behind, driven into pure frustration by the impoverishment of their, once so vibrant towns. A small point of light is the wonderful people who manage to keep their spirits up and try to find comfort in their community.
Stunningly brilliant - I love it when the Manic surprise us - RH voice is haunting, James' lets us know it's 100% Manic magic. 'Trippy", 60s lilt, melancholic - in a 'Small Black Flowers' way but not as dark (Come home Ritchie.)
If you don't like this, then you obviously have never seen the state of the Welsh valleys in this age. Resonating with emotion, feeling and melancholy for a lost era.
They've grown, they're albums aren't comparable. The simplicity of this album is going to be what is beautiful. I'm glad they have developed the music with their current state of minds or lives, and not catered to the old Manics the fans want but they just can't be.
Also finally worked out where the shot is at 5:20 - it's Treorchy viewed from the A4107. The hairpin in the foreground is the A4061 Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road.
The man in this video is my father in law. He loved doing this .

Hoping that they never stop

In the nothing of the now
I want to see it all
Never want to let it go
Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all
Let me hide under the sheets
And celebrate the boredom
Let me hide under the sheets
With my brave old one
Rewind the film again
I'd love to see my joy, my friends
Rewind the film again
So I can fall asleep content
Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all
I want to feel small
Holding on my father's hands
Playing all the records
Praying that they'll never stop
There is too much heartbreak
In the nothing of the now
I want to see it all
Never going to let you down
Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all
I want the world to see all the love
And security, my childhood dreams
But now I am a busted flush
And I am waiting for the night to come
So rewind the film again
I'd love to see my joy, my friends
Yes, rewind the film again
So I can fall asleep content
So fitting in these crazy times we're living... God bless MSP and us all, stay safe, stay beautiful 🙏💜💜
