Travel Insurance Claim Updates: - My refund has been processed! It took 38 business days/56 days total. Because the third party company is based in the US the deducation/excess was charged in USD and was $250. I was refunded $406USD. The company contacted me to ask if my bank would receive payment in USD as they often find Australian banks won't accept the payment. One thing to note: I will have also have to pay fees to receive the refund in USD/have it exchanged into AUD. For me, this is another reason why I wouldn't go with SafetyWing again and wouldn't use a company that passes you off to a third party. My deducation/excess with an Australian company would've been charged in AUD and would've cost me less ($250USD is $349AUD and the standard excess for Travel Insurance Direct is $200AUD). - I contacted Medical Audit Professionals after 45 days had passed and was been advised the claim process takes 35-45 BUSINESS days.
A great question, Andrea! 🙌🏻 I usually travel so much I get an annual insurance policy as it’s more cost effective. Since the plague happened I was getting a policy for each trip but it was starting to get costly yet I still couldn’t justify an annual policy. SafetyWing is aimed at digital nomads - you can turn the policy on and off around your travel. It made so much sense! I think the model is great but the claims process is not 😩
In the video: “It’s a great test of my insurance.” Looks like we can figure out what grade they’ve received. ☹️ Hope you’ve been able to find another company or returned to one who previously earned your trust. Keep us posted!
Interesting documenting the whole process. Travelling alone can be challenging. Even just going shopping when your bike and gear is outside triggers fears. Well done Phoebe.
It's such an awful situation to end up whilst travelling alone. I really hope you're feeling better soon. It's so good to share this vlog, though, so thank you from all of us. It really shows the reality and the side of travelling that's a possible risk for all of us. Rest up and take good care of yourself. We will all be here for when you're back on your feet 🙏
It's great to see you well now. I have gone through this as well as a solo traveller. In those moments I wished if I had someone with me, it would be easier. My travel was cut short because of that. When I was well enough, I just booked the flight and returned home. This experience kind of frightens me to go on solo travel.
I’m sorry you both had to go through that on your own. If you are interested, I host small group trips with an included support for travel bugs and illnesses.
I got Typhoid last time I was in Bali. In bed for 10 days with a terrible fever and headache. Thought it was Dengue fever (mosquito). So waited 5 days for symptoms to go. After 5 days I was worse so went to hospital and got a blood test which confirmed it was Typhoid... so people if you get sick in Bali, get to the hospital asap. A course of antibiotics will get you sort you out in a couple days.
Thanks Phoebe. Just got home from Bali and suffered Bali Belly the last few days I was there, as did my husband. I went to the hospital and it cost around $400 Canadian for basically an infusion and some drugs. I’ll see how long it takes me to get my medical covered.
I would never have the idea to open the camera when I am not well or even in hospital. You are very strong. What I like is the insurance angle. It is always good to get an opinion on these guys because usually we learn the hard way. Thank you for sharing that. I hope you will get the money. I wish you a happy and beautiful Chinese new year!
Omg I've been soo ill over the past week and half and watching you go through the same thing is just so reassuring. So glad you're better and really good info about the travel insurance.
Oh my gosh it's gross huh! Just an exhausting experience. You're so drained mentally and physically.... you just get to the point where you need it stop!!
@@travelforphoebe I know! I like to see it as your body is trying to cleanse itself and with that you need to move through the finish in order to get better and stronger.
Hi! Im in Bali (Canggu) also alone and bally beli also hit me 2 days ago. First day I’ve even fainted, second a was a bit better and today too but still can’t move from the hotel because of bathroom urgencies. Don’t really know what to do but this was helpful. Thank you.
Oh babe I was in the same position. I totally hear you. If you don’t get well soon make sure you take yourself to the hospital okay. Don’t hesitate to get help if you need it ♥️ keep me posted x
So sorry to hear :( I just got back from a solo trip to Bali. I took a travelan before each meal and think that’s why I may have survived without any Bali belly! Take probiotics going forward.
Get well soon and praying for your speedy recovery!! (and this message would have been in the past!). Glad to know you're better and doing ok. Thanks also for the advice on making sure to pick a good travel insurance.
Its so easy to get bali belly. Did all the right things and still got it (only ate at reputable restaurants, only had bottled water, never had ice in water). My sister in law came back from bali and went straight to hospital.
So sorry you got sick Phoebe. Feel Better. It happened to us on a trip to Bejing, China where i lost a cap to my tooth in a chicken stir fry that had crunchy bones in it. Getting sick on a trip is never pleasant . Travel Insurance can be very complicated. Navigating the bureaucracy can be frustrating. We use Allianz where you can talk with an agent directly and work with him or her through the whole process. No third parties. A live person . Don't let this experience prevent you from following your dreams. There will be ups and downs. Hopefully more ups. Be Well! Stay Healthy! Sending you much love from Richmond, Va.🙏❤🙏 Harriet, Jim and Yuki
ooooh great to hear Allianz are good too! I'll check them out. Will definitely be choosing a different insurer next time, that's for sure. It's so important that you get to deal with that company directly and they make it easy for you to contact them and get your refund. Oh my gosh hahaha losing a tooth in a chicken stir fry isn't funny... but it IS funny :D if you know what I mean!
Hello from CA & many thanks 4 your video. Getting sick is scary, firsthand here with dengue fever several times in Bali. Luckily i was got treatment in Bali and rented an a/c room and recovered. Staying in an a/c room really makes a difference & love your hotel! Insurance wasn't a priority when i traveled but will be now. Really recommend pre-probiotics when traveling as this has helped my tunny! Take care.
Hi Phoebe, i just donate USD15. for your coffee in Bali. My credit card is different name from my English name Steven Chen. Your vlogs make me so relaxed. Take it easy.
As usual a professional and well done video. All done while you were feeling under the weather. Good to share with others who have no idea what to do under these circumstances. As a retuned Peace Corps volunteer who went thought what you are going through several times in my volunteer experience or travels over the years this literally could be life saving. Only suggestion I have is folks to carry with them medical charcoal that is often available at a pharmacy (powder form). The easiest and best item to carry to help get rid of anything you might have digested that does not agree with you. Common must have for volunteers around the world....taste horrible and looks worse coming out if you know what I mean. I and many other will swear by it....Not pushed to much because it cost nothing and so none makes money, but just an aside....You were great and I look forward to running into you when I make it to Bali later this year.
I find it amazing that you actually travel solo in Bali. My family does business in Indonesia for over 40 years and we speak the language but I don't even dare to travel alone in Indonesia. 😅
Just jumped on. Glad your getting help. Kaye and I love you and our journey is continuing from Chicago and Brisbane. Building our tiny house living off grid there. We can really feel what your going thru. Especially alone.. Hopefully it wont be too long before your home and feeling family again and feeling safe.. keep us updated. love and hugs from us Both. Art and Kaye.
Thank you so much Art and Kaye 😊♥️ I gotta tell you, I didn’t feel too alone talking to the camera 😊 it was nice knowing I was talking to our little family here on RUclips ♥️
I’m so glad you’re okay and how scary that must have been. I agree, Covermore are amazing. They were so swift and helpful when our daughter almost blew her eardrums due to pressure causing inflammation and bulging on our first flight with her to London (we had to fly to Melbourne first) - she didn’t even make it out of Australia and it took a few days for her to be well enough to fly. They paid for everything - even a chiropractor for her, and she was fine to fly pretty quickly.
YES! WOW! That's so good to hear - I've had nothing but good experiences with CoverMore too. You just feel like they aren't trying to screw you over. With SafetyWing and this random Medical Audit group I feel like they're trying to catch me out... you know? But with CoverMore it always felt like they were there to help. SO glad they helped your girl and were so gracious about it!
Wow poor you, what a friggen nightmare and scary experience. My gut feeling too was straight the the hospital too. Main thing is your ok. Thanks so much for sharing with us and I am so happy your are ok. Travel insurer sounds like a Pratt. Xx
I’m going to Bali in May and am really scared of getting gastro/bali belly. Was great to see your honest experience through it. Hope you are fully recovered now which I’m sure you are!
Haha it’s foul! I hope you don’t get it. I was so careful with what I ate and I still got it 😬 I guess at least now you know what to expect if the worst happens. Someone in the comments said a shot of single malt whisky in the morning and night is their go-to preventative 😂
I’ve been to Bali multiple times also with no problems but I went in Nov w a big group of friends and maybe half? Got the worstttt Bali Belly. One of my friends was going to the loo maybe 50 times a day? No joke. And one is still suffering til now, 2 months later. Going to urologists, etc. Best tip: only drink bottled water and avoid ice at all costs!!!! Ice from there is made from unfiltered water most of the time
@chico7469 Tell me about it . They addicted to it . The place dicease riddled . I know it myself . The hygiene is bade there . U need to wear gloves to when handling toilet doors . It is on every thing not just in water and food . Mosquito too carry dengue ..
Great video Phoebe! I had bali belly for 12 days out of my 3.5 week trip. Love the entertainment of "Dr Smokeshow" 🤣🤣🤣. Was going to try safety wing but def won't now. Im based in NZ and will stick to my local insurers also. Costs a lot more but u know its quality. Great to see you're better and still traveling xx
12 DAYS?! Oh my gosh love, that’s brutal! Hahahah omg Dr Smokeshow! I wish I’d filmed him 😂 Yeahhhh good call, definitely stick to your local insurers. That’s what I’ll be doing from now on - it was a good lesson for me.
One thing I learned on my first solo trip is under no circumstances have tap water, always packaged water or mineral water, if I am staying long then a 6 liter can at my hotel or a place where I am staying, avoid street drinks, mostly packaged liquid, I know will miss some local delicacies but won’t get sick
I got back from Bali like 4 weeks ago and for the last week I was there I was literally the sickest I’ve ever been Bali belly is no joke it comes when u least expect it😭 it’s amazing when it finally goes away tho
I feel for her, I went through a similar thing when I first visited Bali. When I landed in Bali, I had a busted right ear drum. The 2nd day into my trip, I came down with diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain. This lasted for 4 days. I lost 13 pounds within those few days because I couldn't consume anything and I was losing liquids by the day. What saved me was getting 2 iv therapies which pumped me with vitamins, nausea medicine, medical water, and whatever else was in there. Shout out to BSI Naturals in Canggu and Ubud! They literally saved me! I was back up and running on the 6th day like nothing happened. All in all, be careful and do your due diligence.
@@michellefloyd6847 Pure bad luck 😂. I'm not 100% certain, but it may have been from a smoothie at a well known restaurant. I don't think they used filtered ice for cubes. I'm not going to name the restaurant because of strict laws, but just going to say to be careful for the first few days while your body acclimate.
It's so hard to say! I mean, you can watch back the videos before this one and see literally EVERYTHING I ate haha I was editing them thinking, 'was this what did it?!' I only ate at really good places and I don't eat meat or eggs so I'm a bit baffled by it. One doctor said I could've even picked it up via touch :( Makes it hard to avoid if that's the case!
Gosh, those moments at like 2am when the fever comes back and you're all disgusting, crawling over to the bathroom are the ones that really get you! Hoping the info in the video helps someone else and they don't feel so scared when they go through it :)
I've been travelling solo I got severe bali belly for 12 days absolutely destroyed my holiday had 3 different medical hydro centres with drips treatments, antibiotics, vitamin drips make sure to get right antibiotics they gave me the wrong ones. 3rd hydro medical treatment team gave me the correct antibiotics 3 days later I was fine. 16 day holiday absolutely wrecked can't wait to fly home tomorrow.
Oh my god!!! 12 days is a LONG time to go through that. You poor thing. It’s incredibly draining physically and mentally. Bet you can’t wait to get in your own house and heal ♥️🙏🏼 safe journey home!
Thanks for sharing about what Insurance companies you like and more about the behind the scenes process. I haven't done a lot of international travel but plan to and it will probably be helpful. Hope you are doing better!
This is such a helpful video. I, too, unfortunately, got very ill in Indonesia last year. I couldn't take in any food or keep down fluids for several days and ended up in the hospital. Solo travel in moments like these can be really hard and scary, but kudos to you for being strong enough to document the process!
If you’re sick from the weather, try coining (cao gio). You can do very light coining in front by yourself with peppermint and it works wonder. Do it 2-3 times.
Glad you’re feeling better! Thank you for sharing the whole journey with us and your process with Safety Wing. I’ve used them in the past but never submitted a claim. Will definitely be checking out the other two you recommended for my upcoming trip to India
I'm glad you got through that. Had Bali Belly in 1988 and it was scary. I agree you need someone to step up and take care of anyone who is ill like that.
I'm so glad your better now, I used Safety Wings for my last two trips luckily I didn't get sick/hurt...Thanks for the other insurance recommendations.
Well I’m sure you are sick of people telling you this but so glad that you’re better, and so proud at how far you’ve come in the last few months. Gotta love the meds taking it’s toll. I always used covermore.. ☺️
hahaha I'm soaking up all the good wishes! :) YES! I had to claim with CoverMore a couple of times and they were so easy. I think I'll definitely be using them or TID next time. Thank you so much for saying you're proud of me, that's so kind!
@Little Grey Box we all learn right.. its definitely an experience I'm sure you won't forget in a hurry 🤭.. just waiting for your next videos. If I see a couple of SE Asia countries come, I'll lose my biscuit 🤣
I’m so sorry, Phoebe. I hope you’re all better now!! I can relate on wishing you had someone with you… traveling solo in Australia myself with a cold, which is totally minute compared to your symptoms. But still, it would help to have someone pick up juice & food for me, because I’m so low on energy.
Oh my gosh yes - you cannot go out when you're in the condition. Just need someone to be able to help you get water, hydrating/sugary drinks, basic medication etc. It's so draining when you're sick like that.
Hiya! There’s a little recognition in here for me. In the beginning of my Mexico trip I got diarrhea the first night after the so-called welcome drink. Then 2 weeks after I was sick for a few days again after a rough weekend. Luckily in between I had 2 wonderful weeks. I feel so sad that you had to experience this on your solo trip. I am afraid for needles and it’s such a terrible experience to get through this when you’re alone, far away from home with no one around you who could take care. Although it seems you had a good trip from your pain killer. My worst experience was in New York where I got sick from all the fat food combined with an outdoor temperature of 40 degrees which makes all the litter smell like vomit. Glad you were still able to do some nice things such as making the offerings and eat/drink some Balinese food. Thanks for sharing this personal story with us and have an amazing week ahead 🤙
Thanks for the medical travel insurance information and which travel insurance you recommended. I have those names written down for future reference. I had no idea Safety Wings used a 3rd party, which would seem to cause more frustration and delay. Thanks for taking us along with your experience.
Oh wow...Thanks for the helpful advice Phoebe! I found it hard to find travel insurance when I went in September. AAMI is my go to, but they no longer do travel insurance so just went with world2cover.. I am heading back in May so will look into the ones you mentioned. Thanks again Phoebe. And glad you are feeling better.
fyi, if you in indonesian, better you find "RSUD" , if you dont know where is it, just go to hospital near you, and get ambulance to take you "RSUD", in anywhere around indonesian you will find RSUD, is better fasility at all
I just went to Bali the week before Christmas and got Campylobacter jejuni infection on the last day (well that's when symptoms started). I've had Bali belly before which only lasted 24 hours, but this lasted two weeks. Couldn't hold in anything - even water - vomited up everything on the first day, then frequent diarrhoea for two weeks. I know what it was because I did stool sample when back in Australia and was prescribed azithromycin. Nothing really helped. I'm sure the antibiotics killed it, but I still had symptoms for a week after. In fact I had the worst headache of my life the remaining few days, probably due to dehydration. Everything is back to normal now, but I've been to Bali three times now, and each time I've gotten something (first time influenza/pneumonia, second time 24-hour-long Bali belly as mentioned, and this time two-week-long Bali belly). I like Bali but I'm really tired of getting sick every time I go
Hubby and I had Covermore for our trip last year . Hubby caught covid when in Thailand and at that time they were still putting you in a quarantine facility. I had no problems with Covermore we had covid insurance on top . Covermore were really easy to deal with . Will use them again this year
Oh wow! That's the ultimate seal of approval :) It's funny... A few people in the comments have shared they had a great experience claiming with Covermore but I can't seem to find anyone else who has had to claim with SafetyWing! So weird. Would love to find someone to hear their experience.
Happy that your back to full health and thanks for the honest SafetyWing advice. I think the main reason people use them is because they have a glowing affiliate program so influencers will happily recommend them and make a nice commission. I won't be using them after watching this video and will go with an alternative.
Ahhhhhh yes that would make sense! I’d be curious to hear from other people who have claimed with them to see what their experience was like. At the moment I feel like im the only person who has ever claimed 😂
I feel you, severe dehydration actually can make you loose consciousness before dying therefore it is always good to have someone beside you to watch over you. A tip : eat fruits that can stabilize your stomach such as banana, papaya and make a thick tea without sugar to absorb unwanted particles and stabilize your digestive tracts. Look at the bright side: when you recover from it your belly will become stronger and able to survive more local delicacies unlike other foreigners who haven’t experienced this.
So glad you said that! A few people in the comments have missed understanding how dangerous dehydration can be. When you’re throwing up everything and not retaining anything in your body for three days straight, you gotta take it seriously. Thank you so much for the advice too!! 🙏🏼😊
Thank you for letting us know the two insurance companies you have used and claimed with, as I am looking at quotes now. I have claimed with Insurance direct and found the claims process easy. I also hate dealing with third parties too.
I’m glad your recovered did they give you a diagnosis or do you know what made you sick I know so many people get Bali belly usually charcoal tablets help and having prebiotics and electrolytes to help
So I'm pretty sure on the medical report from the hospital it said something about a bacterial infection. It's funny cos I literally filmed EVERYTHING I ate haha so when I was watching/editing the earlier Bali episodes I kept watching myself eat, thinking, 'Was that it?!' I was so careful to only eat at clean, reputable places and it's not like I eat things that may typically cause issues like meat, poultry and eggs... but... the doctor said it could've even just been something I touched... someone else in the comments said maybe I just got gastro bug? I dunno :S The hot doctor said he does about 4 house calls a day for Bali Belly! Crazy, huh! So common. I'd say if I were a regular person the house call would've fixed me up but I have ongoing stomach issues and I think I'm just more susceptible to this stuff :( so annoying!
@@travelforphoebe I’m glad your feeling better enjoy the rest of your travels and it can be so scary I got food poisoning from strawberries from Albania poisons sprayed on them it’s horrible I was sick for days and bed ridden had so many injections too
@littlegreybox i understand completly what you felt actually. I got the same, a intestine bacteria named amoeba due to spoil water or bad food whereas I was rating in good western restaurants. I had to stay 4 days at the hospital to get IV to treat and clean my body.. hope you are well
Aww Phoebe! So sorry you got so sick! I know it must have been scary going through all of it alone. I bet you wished Matt was there with you! 😔 Glad you are on the mend and hope you are feeling better and back to your amazing self soon! ❤ Thanks for the honest review of Safety Wing Insurance…will not be using them ever! Surprised at how inexpensive medical care is in Indonesia. Here in the US you pay that $275 USD for just an aspirin in the hospital! Lol😂 Looking forward to seeing next week’s video and you doing well. Hopefully you will get your refund from the insurance company soon. 🤞🏽
hahaha he would've sat in that toilet with me listening to me throw up all night! He's a champion like that. Just not at all fazed by gross body stuff. Yeah definitely avoid the ol' SafetyWing. A few people have been commenting saying they've seen Vloggers and influencers promoting them but maybe those people haven't had to claim or maybe they had a better experience :S YES! That's what I thought. If i were in the US it would've cost a HUGE amount! If I had stayed for the full three days, $1,000AU would've been a bargain haha.
I also got sick while staying at a hotel in Canggu. I was travelling on my own and woke up on my birthday at 4am feeling hideous. I was lucky that the visit from the Dr and meds given were enough to get me on track and I"m really glad I didn't go to the hospital as I was able to rest and be in nice surrounds and given it wasn't needed in the end I'm glad I didn't venture out. Of course we never know what might happen and it's easy to say in retrospect that you might do things differently. I was insured with Covermore and it was easy getting it back.
CoverMore is the best! I’ll be crawling back to them for my next trip 😂🙏🏼 thank you so much for sharing - so glad the call out doctor was able to help but damn… what a way to spend a birthday 💀😭😂
Hi Phoebe 😊 Glad you are feeling well now ♥️😊 Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the insurance as we’re using Safety Wings too, fortunately we never needed it! We also don’t like the third party agency they use as like you said we signed up with them and we want to deal with them! We’ll look for some other more reliable company! Thank you again for this valuable information! We wish you all the best ♥️😊♥️
Yes exactly!!! You just want to deal with who you thought you were signing up with, not some random other group 😬 glad you could see this before you needed to claim 🥰
This one was a tough watch, I can only imagine how hard it would have been living through it. I used to vlog years ago and I used to use the camera as a way to detach myself from any bad situations I found myself in. Yes I may have been having an awful time but if I was arranging the composition for a shot or thinking of my next segment then it gave me the ability to step back from reality a bit. I hope your drive to provide us with that helpful medical advice allowed you to distance yourself from the situation a little. We werent there with you but through your filming we all came along and I hope you knew that there would be a torrent of support coming through for you. All this is just to say, I hope you feel better 🙂
Wow you summed that up so well! That’s exactly how it feels to me. No matter what you’re going through, you can use the camera as a way to take a mental break and create something helpful from it. Whether that’s information or just giving people a space to relate. I love RUclips… it’s so powerful ♥️🙏🏼
Thanks for your honest review of Safety Wing. I have noticed there are a lot of digital nomads that use them and rave about them but have never had to actually use them, its really the only way to know or see someone that had to use them....like yourself.
Wow!! Really?! I didn’t know they were raving about them. I’d never heard of them before. Those people must not have claimed huh cos the claims process sucks. Someone suggested I make a review video dedicated to just SafetyWing and I’m thinking that may be a good idea - people need to hear what the experience of claiming is actually like!
Good to know about Safety Wing. I use them and luckily so far I have not had to claim anything back. The thing is that I travel full time so most insurance policies that cover up to a certain number of days won't work 😰
I really want to find someone who has claimed and see what it was like for them! I feel like I’m the only one 😩 thanks for watching 🙏🏼 I’m guessing you’ve tried annual policies?
@@travelforphoebe I'm on a month-by-month policy with them so I am eager to know how it goes with your claim before deciding if going with another one. I know of people who have not had issues with SW claims but at this point I don't know if much depends on this third-party company's way of handling claims
Same thing happened to me when I was travel solo in Thailand, terrible experience, I was alone in the hospital.....I am kinda scared to visit Bali now.....
From experience, Bali Belly. I got to Singapore before it hit me in 79. Got a Doctor to the hotel who stayed with me until I improved. All I needed was sulphur and charcoal plus plenty of fluids. Mind I did fracture my femur in Hong Kong in 2015. That wasn't fun. Thank goodness for travel insurance.
You survive! Glad u did btw and let's face it, we can't say we've really travelled until the journey leads us through a local (smokeshow) physician, witchdoctor or shaman right? Love the deviation from regular touristy/food content. I personally find the insurance review very helpful and necessary. Fantastic vlog btw but that's expected from u by now 😜
We are about to go to Bali in a couple of weeks, and the amount of people that are getting sick compared to what we have heard previously is concerning so we have already started on the prebiotics! You mentioned in your video that you would just go straight to hospital next time I did the house call doctor option first. Do you still recommend just going straight to hospital?
Oh really?! Maybe there’s something going around 🫢 Given how sick I was and how long it went on for I still wished I had gone to the hospital. The thing is, I didn’t know how bad it was until a few days went by… you know? Like, you don’t want to make it a big deal and rush off to the hospital for something that maybe some Imodium or charcoal tablets would help and I’ve had times in the past in Bali where Bali Belly has happened but the symptoms have been mild and passed after a few hours. There’s no way of knowing until you’ve been in it for a few days 😩 But if I were in Bali and this happened again, weighing up the cost of the house call doctor, I would go to the hospital as soon as the vomiting started. This is probably too much information but I could taste the bacteria/infection 🫢 so gross. If I experienced that again, I’d know it was bad and just go right to hospital.
@@travelforphoebe i understand what you are saying! Haha not too much information at all, I so happy that you have recovered x just want her your most recent video Xx
Thks for the travel insurance recommendation. I normally use Allianz...but now getting too expensive. I'm having bad feeling already bout safetywind claim and will try your pick this time. Hope you recover soon and continue your journey. Best wishes from Sydney.
I caught Pneumonia in Greece years ago. I didn't pay anything. The bill just went straight to the insurance company. Interesting experience though. An actual travel agent l met in an airport warned me not to go to a hospital so luckily l'm a nurse and gave myself injections by twisting around. After a week of that l don't even remember getting to the airport but never been happier to be on Qantas
I would if I could! Because I travel so often individual policies would be incredibly expensive for me. I’m also ineligible for annual policies. So, I have to keep using safetywing. If I could, I’d be using TID or Covermore.
ooooh I actually had already gotten sick before I drank that and at this hotel all the water from every tap (and all the ice) is filtered. It's actually pretty awesome - the only hotel in Bali I've ever been to where you can drink the tap water cos it's filtered and totally safe! I watched all the footage back from my trip and I just really don't know how I got the infection. The doctor said it could've even been just from touching something, not even food :(
Bali is one of the best places to be sick when travelling solo! (I’ve visited a hospital or two around the globe 😂). I spent three nights in a private medical facility with a mosquito borne virus. My travel insurance covered everything too. World Nomads were awesome and paid the $3000+ bill (for my stay and extensive treatments and tests) direct to the clinic (except the $80 excess which I paid on departure). They also called my family every four hours with updates (and gave my family contact details for the clinic so they could call me) and they had doctors in Australia monitoring my 4 times a day medical reports to make sure they were doing everything correct 👌
WOAH! Okay, that’s an ordeal!! Soooo good to hear about World Nomads. Actually now you say that… I recall either TID or CoverMore doing a direct payment one time too. They were so good! So much easier! I’ll check out World Nomads next time 😊
My brother and his wife were there a couple months ago and had to fly home early because my brother got soooo sick and the medical care there unfortunately didn’t help but right when he got back to the US he went straight to the emergency room and got on antibiotics and got completely better really quickly.
Nooooooo! Wow! I wonder if there’s been a proper gastro bug going around then? Cos that’s not standard Bali Belly. That’s full-on. Or maybe the bacteria effects people differently? I really hope your brother is doing better now. Truth be told his body may never be the same - I first got sick like this in Turkey in 2012 and I was sick for years. I can’t eat rich foods, drink much, eat meat/dairy/eggs etc. He may find his body has changed the poor thing. Hope he recovers fast ♥️♥️♥️
@@travelforphoebe My son had a very bad gastro bug on the second last day of our trip to bali in 2018, he was 8 then. Got back to Singapore had to go through a round of antibiotics. Till date his stomach has not completely recovered. As you mentioned above, the symptoms just appear and he takes weeks to recover. Also the bug triggered motion sickness. The doctors here ran a whole lot of tests and found nothing. Also checked for lactose and fructose intolerance which were negative. The hope is that whatever is in his body thats causing this goes off with time.
@@travelforphoebe Have you done a stool sample back in Aus? That isn't normal. You might have a parasite. If I was you I would come back to Australia and see a travel doctor who can do a battery of tests

Travel Insurance Claim Updates:
- My refund has been processed!
Oh, wow thats just irresponsible on their part at this point. Hopefully everything will work out soon for you. Feel better, Phoebe! 🙏
Can I ask why you chose a different insurer as opposed to the ones you said you like in the video? I don't know a lot about travel medical insurance.
I think the model is great but the claims process is not 😩
@@travelforphoebe ohh. Makes sense. Hopefully you get your money.
Thanks so much Andy 😊 it’s helpful being able to talk to the camera, especially on my own it kinda felt like everyone was there with me!
Fresh morning juice
Phoebe, my apology last donation was only USD0.50. The bank screwed up. Here is USD25. For your morning fresh juice.
Oh that is so lovely of you 😍🙏🏼 Thank you so much! It’s truly appreciated 🥰😊✨🌿
Oh that’s so lovely of you 🥹♥️ thank you so much!
aww Matt is so kind to call them up and ask them to get you the help you need
It's great to see you well now. I have gone through this as well as a solo traveller. In those moments I wished if I had someone with me, it would be easier. My travel was cut short because of that. When I was well enough, I just booked the flight and returned home. This experience kind of frightens me to go on solo travel.
Right?! Just to have someone there with you when you’re exhausted and weak and crawling back to the bathroom again 😂
Wowwww! That’s a great cautionary tale for people. Such good advice - get yourself to the hospital right away 🙏🏼
U get typhoid from the water . It must got into body while in water or touching it . I got it when I swallowed it. It infected my kidneys too
Thanks Phoebe. Just got home from Bali and suffered Bali Belly the last few days I was there, as did my husband. I went to the hospital and it cost around $400 Canadian for basically an infusion and some drugs. I’ll see how long it takes me to get my medical covered.
Oh my gosh, I hope you feel better soon! So sorry you got so sick 🥲
My daughter is traveling to Canggu end of March for 6 months. This video came in very useful! Thank you so much!
I hope she has a wonderful time!! :)
It was so nice being able to talk to the camera! I felt like I wasn’t so alone 😊♥️ thank you, I’m so glad you like the insurance angle!!
I take probiotics every day and it still happened! 🙁
Get well soon and praying for your speedy recovery!! (and this message would have been in the past!). Glad to know you're better and doing ok. Thanks also for the advice on making sure to pick a good travel insurance.
You’re most welcome ♥️🙏🏼 thank you for the lovely comment x
Its so easy to get bali belly. Did all the right things and still got it (only ate at reputable restaurants, only had bottled water, never had ice in water). My sister in law came back from bali and went straight to hospital.
🙌🏻 I feel the same way - I did everything right and still got it!
So sorry you got sick Phoebe. Feel Better. It happened to us on a trip to Bejing, China where i lost a cap to my tooth in a chicken stir fry that had crunchy bones in it. Getting sick on a trip
is never pleasant .
@@travelforphoebe You look back at the time it wasn't funny. But now you gotta have a laugh ha ha ha
Take care.
Oh my gosh! Thanks so much for the tip. So sorry you got sick too 😭
I’m so sorry, feel better 🌸 sending well wishes
Thank you 🙏🏼
謝謝!
Hi Phoebe, i just donate USD15. for your coffee in Bali. My credit card is different name from my English name Steven Chen. Your vlogs make me so relaxed. Take it easy.
Phoebe, my credit card did not work i think. I will try it again tomorrow.
Oh bless you 🙏🏼 that’s so very generous and thoughtful of you!! I really appreciate the support 😊😍
This is great information. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for watching! :)
Oh thank you so much 😊 Great tip on the charcoal tablets!!! 😍😍😍
So glad you are better!! This also gave a good insight in travel insurance. Thank you! Stay safe! 😊🧡
Oh good, I'm glad it was insightful :) Thank you x
So good to see this side of traveling. Thanks for sharing and glad you're feeling better.
Thank you so much!
Xx
A Pratt 😂😂 thank you so much!
Oh my, my wife and I were generally worried for you. We are happy you overcame it. You are doing an amazing job we hope to see more videos!
Thank you so so much 😍
Thanks Phobe. Keep creating awesome contents. I rewatch a lot of your Singapore contents. I love Singapore and am going back there in November.😊
Ice from there is made from unfiltered water most of the time
So why go?
@chico7469 Tell me about it . They addicted to it . The place dicease riddled . I know it myself . The hygiene is bade there . U need to wear gloves to when handling toilet doors . It is on every thing not just in water and food . Mosquito too carry dengue ..
What a terrible few days! 😖 So glad you're over it. Aussies are a tough bunch! Looking forward to the next vlog.
hahaha Years of survival training down here ;)
I’m glad you’re safe and sound. Thanks for sharing the insurance information. That’s very helpful. Keep safe. God Bless.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 glad it’s helpful ♥️
So glad you got the help you needed. Please rest up. Sickening to hear how much a house doctor call out charge was. 😢
SO expensive, right?! Much better just to go to the hospital, I think.
That sucks so bad!! Really hope you are feeling better now!
Thank you! 😍
I got back from Bali like 4 weeks ago and for the last week I was there I was literally the sickest I’ve ever been Bali belly is no joke it comes when u least expect it😭 it’s amazing when it finally goes away tho
oof, I feel you! Hope you're feeling better now
Gosh, what an experience. Glad you got through it Phoebe. Get well soon and entertain us with your fantastic vids :)
hahaha that I can definitely do WK :)
Omg that’s terrible!!! You poor thing!! 🥲
How did u get Bali belly
That looks scary! Hospital is a long enough day, especially if you are alone! That was some great info. I hope you are feeling better now.
Gosh, those moments at like 2am when the fever comes back and you're all disgusting, crawling over to the bathroom are the ones that really get you! Hoping the info in the video helps someone else and they don't feel so scared when they go through it :)
Glad you made it through this health scare. You shared really good insights. Just sorry you had the experience.
Thank you so much! I hope everything in the video is helpful for other travellers.
Oh my goodness
Jeez man hope you make a swift recovery
How do you think you got it?
I was curious as to that as well. Was it something you ate?
Hi Phoebe. So sorry to see that you were so sick. I hope you have recovered. Take care.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing about what Insurance companies you like and more about the behind the scenes process. I haven't done a lot of international travel but plan to and it will probably be helpful. Hope you are doing better!
thank you lovely ♥️🙏🏼
Wonderful to hear you are so much better. Covermore it is for my travels this year.
Haha me too!! I’m going craaaaawwwwling back to them 😂
This is such a helpful video. I, too, unfortunately, got very ill in Indonesia last year. I couldn't take in any food or keep down fluids for several days and ended up in the hospital. Solo travel in moments like these can be really hard and scary, but kudos to you for being strong enough to document the process!
I’m so sorry to hear you got sick too! Thanks for the kindness on the video 🥹♥️🙏🏼
Hope you are feeling better! Get well soon.
Thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️
thanks for the heads up!
Glad you're well and sharing valuable insight into travel insurance.
Oh good! I’m so glad you find it valuable 🙏🏼
Damn! I really want to find someone else who has claimed and compare notes 😂 YES omg you def need a good one for India 🙏🏼
what an awful 3 days, glad you got through it all and smiling again. Thanks for the tips on the travel insurance
Thank you so much 🥰
I'm glad you got through that.
Had Bali Belly in 1988 and it was scary. I agree you need someone to step up and take care of anyone who is ill like that.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼🥰

hahahahah YESSSSSSS
This is so helpful for me. I’m travelling to Bali in 2 weeks time ❤️
Glad it was helpful!! Have a wonderful trip 🥰✨🌿
Wow that sucks 😢 glad your feeling better now .I was looking at covermore insurance for Thailand feel better now knowing there reliable .
Definitely! I’ll be switching back to them for me next trip 🙏🏼
Oh my gosh Felix that’s awful!!! What a terrible way to start your trip 😩
Thank you!! So happy the info is helpful 🥰♥️🙏🏼
Get well soon 💕
Thank you so much!!
fyi, if you in indonesian, better you find "RSUD" , if you dont know where is it, just go to hospital near you, and get ambulance to take you "RSUD", in anywhere around indonesian you will find RSUD, is better fasility at all
Feel better soon and take care ❤
Thank you ♥️♥️♥️
I just went to Bali the week before Christmas and got Campylobacter jejuni infection on the last day (well that's when symptoms started). I like Bali but I'm really tired of getting sick every time I go
Oh. My. Gosh. You poor thing, that sounds truly awful! What an absolute ordeal to go through 😩 I’m so sorry this all happened to you.
Hope you’re completely recovered and ready for the next adventure 😊
Thank you!!
I hope you feel better 💜
Thank you 🙏🏼♥️
I feel you, severe dehydration actually can make you loose consciousness before dying therefore it is always good to have someone beside you to watch over you.
This is a very good video that shows how useful travel insurance can be. It must have felt like hell during those worst moments
I had to stay 4 days at the hospital to get IV to treat and clean my body.. hope you are well
Take care Phoebe , hope you are feeling better.
I am, thank you :)
Im sorry to hear it hope you get better soon
Thank you!
Wish you better!
Thank you so much :)
Aww Phoebe! So sorry you got so sick! I know it must have been scary going through all of it alone. I bet you wished Matt was there with you! 😔
Glad you are on the mend and hope you are feeling better and back to your amazing self soon! ❤
Thanks for the honest review of Safety Wing Insurance…will not be using them ever!
Surprised at how inexpensive medical care is in Indonesia. Here in the US you pay that $275 USD for just an aspirin in the hospital! Lol😂
Looking forward to seeing next week’s video and you doing well.
A few people have been commenting saying they've seen Vloggers and influencers promoting them but maybe those people haven't had to claim or maybe they had a better experience :S
YES!
Fantastic vlog btw but that's expected from u by now 😜
😂🙏🏼 thank you so much!! I’m sooo happy the insurance part was helpful! 🥰
@@travelforphoebe
Speedy recovery, thank you for sharing
Thank you! 🙏🏼🥰
Thks for the travel insurance recommendation. I normally use Allianz...but now getting too expensive. I'm having bad feeling already bout safetywind claim and will try your pick this time. Hope you recover soon and continue your journey. Best wishes from Sydney.
I hear you! That’s how I ended up with SafetyWing. Their rates were better for my budget 😩
Check out Covermore we found them reasonable for 3 months and covid cover
Tk you.
Yesssss I believe that's what happened when I was with Travel Insurance Direct - they paid directly. It was so much easier!
Phobe thanks for the tips for travel insurance. Can I ask do you still use Cover More or Travel Insurance Direct
I would if I could! Because I travel so often individual policies would be incredibly expensive for me. I’m also ineligible for annual policies. So, I have to keep using safetywing. If I could, I’d be using TID or Covermore.
Did you have ice with that tea when you were showing the room? That might be the culprit!!
ooooh I actually had already gotten sick before I drank that and at this hotel all the water from every tap (and all the ice) is filtered.
I’ll check out World Nomads next time 😊
@@travelforphoebe So glad you’re feeling better! And yep, I have so much love for World Nomads, I don’t go with any other insurer anymore.
Get well soon babe. sad to see you sick right now.
Thank you x
I was so sad,😢
Glad to see you are healthy and smiling. ❤
(One day you will definitely meet).
Phoebe ☕ 👋
Thank you!!
