After I watched your nice video about the city where I was born and grew up, Hamburg, I checked out where you travelled before (wow, many places) and found out that you have been in Chiang Mai too. Here I lived for 7.5 years and I really love the city. It´s not beautiful with all these same looking and bad maintained townhouses and a lack of beautiful old buildings like by example in Vietnam, but it´s vibrant, the people are super friendly, the handicraft markets are lovely and the food is amazing. You really should see next time the beautiful nature around the city, the mountains, the rice terraces, the water falls and so on. 6 months ago I moved to Jerez in southern Spain. If you will be one day in this area, it would be a pleasure to meet you and show you all the interesting places. Opposite Chiang Mai there are hundreds and thousand years old buildings and that´s what I missed.
Arrived in Chiang Mai for a one month holiday in 2003.. I had $500 left when I decided to stay. I had absolutely no idea how I was going to live but I figured I could squeeze by on the 500 for a month. Wasn't sure what was going to happen after that! I stayed for 9 years. By absolute chance, I got an amazing job leading tours through SEA for high-end US tour companies. Now I own places in CM, a place in BKK, and a farm and house in Issan! In Oz at the moment, but will be back in October. Best decision I every made!

Ahhhh soooo glad you get it! When I saw all those orange kittens I just... my whole heart.... just... AHHH! And then they were crawling on me, playing and sleeping. It was such a moment of pure joy for me :) Yessss my little cat is my absolute twin soul. I have two cats actually and I adore Figgy but she's like a roommate haha an equal! So smart and independent. The little one, my everything, she and I are co-dependent. Bonding for all eternity. She is mine and I am hers.... and Figgy just takes care of the both of us :)

Good to see you back in action Phoebe. I was in Chiangmai around early December and I went to those markets in the clock tower complex whatever it’s called. They had an amazing band playing there. Love some of those hipster coffee shops and the vegetarian/vegan restaurants. I love the Khao Soi vegetarian they have at some places
Oh yesss Khao Soi! Bummed I didn’t get to eat it while I was there. I needed a whole week extra!! So happy you experienced that market food square thing, the energy of the place is awesome 🥰

Glad you were able to ease your stomach back to normal. The Pad Thai looked great. I’ve been to Chiangmai twice, but my last trip was about 20 years ago, so I’m probably overdue for another visit. Glad you had an amazing time and I agree with you, sometimes you just don’t get the itinerary quite right and it takes a few times 😊. By the way, I’ve had ginger tea before and I basically had the same reaction 😂
Chiang Mai looks so wonderful!! I think my favorite parts were the surprise kittens (of course) and the ring-making! How cool is that? The healing bowls were also super cool and calming. If I ever visit, I will definitely check out some of these spots :) I'm glad to see you're feeling better Phoebe!

Loved this video and good to see you recovered 🙂How good is Chiang Mai?! we spent over a week there before xmas and it was our best time too! We've been many times as well but it was a wonderful time to visit with everything re-opening but not too crazy busy yet. My boys loved the sticky waterfalls so I know we will be back again just for that!
@@travelforphoebe its called Bua Tong Waterfall. We travel with 2 boys now so it forces us to find all the fun stuff to tire them out 😆 It's about an hour out so good to hire a driver for half a day and see a few things in the same area. Huay Tueng Thao Reservoir was a nice spot on the way too.
wow all the foods look soo yummy 😋 I remember during those vegan 🌱 trips they would always go to ChiangMai. I have only been to Bkk I hope to visit Phuket and all the other gorgeous beaches! 🏝️😍

Hiya! I need to taste Mango sticky rice now, you activated my cravings. Free Bird cafe, that name reminds my of the Free Bird song by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which is a very nice song. In case you don't know it, give it a listen on RUclips. Your spicy food looks so good. Spices actually help me while I am having blocked sinuses. Not sure if it would help for stomach issues. When I have stomach issues, I avoid high FODMAP food. That cat at 12:00 is so cute and it gets even better at 15:05 🥰. I lost my heart there. Coconut always helps the stomach. I'm happy your stomach came back. Thanks for sharing and have an amazing week ahead 🤙
Oh my gosh it is soooo good! I've tried making it myself at home but it's never quite the same. The lady at that market stall made it perfectly. hahaha I love that you love the cats too! If you’re ever in Thailand again, before embarking on your exploration, visit a local health store and get coconut oil tablets. They’ll help coat your stomach and reduce the risk of food poisoning and parasites.

There's a link to them in the video description for you and you can show them my video and ask them to organise the same tour for you or you could jot down the names of the temples and find another company if you prefer :) Either way, I loved it and definitely recommend! Such a cool way to explore Chiang Mai's temples! Hope you have the BEST time.
Wat Prathat Doi Suthep and practically all temples in the North and in Laos as well have two Nagas (mythical serpent-like beast living underworld) guarding the steps leading into the temple. It is believed that Naga King is the underworld ruler and is a devout Buddhist disciple. Thus, sometimes you can see an image of Buddha meditating under the tree with Naga King guarding behind with his 7 heads above Buddha's head to protect him from wind/rain. There are also standalone Naga statute along Meking River on both sides of Thailand and Laos, the most famous of which is at Nakhon Phanom with 7 heads. It might be noted that one of the largest royal barge of Thai King has 7-heads Naga as its head. The mortal enemy of Naga is Garuda (a mythical flying beast) which is supposed to be God Rama's mount. Indonesia and Thailand deem Garuda as high class mythical beast and Indonesia's National Carrier is "Garuda". Garuda is also the official symbol of Thai King, thus official document would have Garuda symbol at its head. When there is an official royal announcement from the King or Palace, the initial TV screen features Garuda for a minute before the royal text appears together with reading sound.

Glad you had an amazing time and I agree with you, sometimes you just don’t get the itinerary quite right and it takes a few times 😊. By the way, I’ve had ginger tea before and I basically had the same reaction 😂

Chiang Mai looks so wonderful!! I think my favorite parts were the surprise kittens (of course) and the ring-making! How cool is that? The healing bowls were also super cool and calming. Loved this video and good to see you recovered 🙂How good is Chiang Mai?! we spent over a week there before xmas and it was our best time too! We've been many times as well but it was a wonderful time to visit with everything re-opening but not too crazy busy yet. My boys loved the sticky waterfalls so I know we will be back again just for that!

@@travelforphoebe its called Bua Tong Waterfall. We travel with 2 boys now so it forces us to find all the fun stuff to tire them out 😆 It's about an hour out so good to hire a driver for half a day and see a few things in the same area. Huay Tueng Thao Reservoir was a nice spot on the way too.

Hiya! I need to taste Mango sticky rice now, you activated my cravings. Free Bird cafe, that name reminds my of the Free Bird song by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which is a very nice song. In case you don't know it, give it a listen on RUclips. Your spicy food looks so good. Spices actually help me while I am having blocked sinuses. Not sure if it would help for stomach issues. When I have stomach issues, I avoid high FODMAP food. That cat at 12:00 is so cute and it gets even better at 15:05 🥰. I lost my heart there. Coconut always helps the stomach. I'm happy your stomach came back. Thanks for sharing and have an amazing week ahead 🤙
Oh my gosh it is soooo good! I've tried making it myself at home but it's never quite the same. The lady at that market stall made it perfectly. hahaha I love that you love the cats too! I have to stop every five minutes to cuddle all the cute cats in Chiang Mai. It takes me so long to get anywhere :)

If you’re ever in Thailand again, before embarking on your exploration, visit a local health store and get coconut oil tablets. They’ll help coat your stomach and reduce the risk of food poisoning and parasites.

Wat Prathat Doi Suthep and practically all temples in the North and in Laos as well have two Nagas (mythical serpent-like beast living underworld) guarding the steps leading into the temple. It is believed that Naga King is the underworld ruler and is a devout Buddhist disciple. Thus, sometimes you can see an image of Buddha meditating under the tree with Naga King guarding behind with his 7 heads above Buddha's head to protect him from wind/rain. There are also standalone Naga statute along Meking River on both sides of Thailand and Laos, the most famous of which is at Nakhon Phanom with 7 heads. It might be noted that one of the largest royal barge of Thai King has 7-heads Naga as its head. The mortal enemy of Naga is Garuda (a mythical flying beast) which is supposed to be God Rama's mount. Indonesia and Thailand deem Garuda as high class mythical beast and Indonesia's National Carrier is "Garuda". Garuda is also the official symbol of Thai King, thus official document would have Garuda symbol at its head. When there is an official royal announcement from the King or Palace, the initial TV screen features Garuda for a minute before the royal text appears together with reading sound.

Been to Thailand many times.I rate Chaing Mai high on the list in Thailand.Always love going back.Even though I was hit by a scooter one time.Completely my fault , walked in front of it. Thought it would happen in Bangkok before Chaing Mai 😂
